Here is my review of the Makita 18V Inflator. This little tool is definitely worth the $99 price tag and feels like it will hold up over the years.
Wrap a velcro strap around the trigger mate , saves having to hold it !
Easy removal also !
👍
Thats a dealbreaker for me, come on makita...
If u strap with tie is she still auto off?
@@marvincervancia2470 yes. ❗
That unknown part included in the kit is a schrader to presta adapter for bicycles.
Yup, it is
The small threaded attachment next to the sports ball inflator attachment is for presta valve bicycle wheels, normally used on higher end bicycles.
I own one and it's great. There's no lock on feature to prevent burn out as it has a fairly short duty cycle.
Just got the 18V Makita air compressor, works better than my 12V DC portable air compressor plus I don't have to drag around the wires for the DC power. So far it works on all schrader valves, had trouble using the presta valves on bike tires but not sure if it was operator error. The auto shut off doesn't always go off correctly, occasional it would stop one to two PSI over the set value, so I had to check the tire pressure after inflation with a stand alone pressure gauge. Plan to use it around the house but will also take it on RV trips that include UTV and motorcycle use.
Gary N. You need to screw their presta adapter onto the presta stem as far as it will go. You should have no problems then.
there is an auto mode its called a zip tie
jamison rowe I was just going to say that😂👍🏻
Or spring clamp
even better re-usable zip tie
jamison rowe
Lol, yeah go ahead n zip tie the trigger. Inflator will keep on singing, but seriously a small heavy-duty clamp should work great
@@InsuranceIsLegalizedRobbery Leave the zip tie loose and just slide it over the trigger when you want it to stay on. Need to watch the 5 mins on/5 mins off duty cycle though.
Definitely would be handy having auto trigger feature. However it is pretty neat the pressure stop. If you really want just use a zip tie or spring clamp
I bet if he just wrote the trigger wants it would continue to pump
The most awesome part is that it came with a presta adapter. I love this compressor only real drawback is what you already pointed out. No way to lock the trigger.
Having to hold the trigger is a big miss by makita.
I agree! That's a huge miss! I like to walk away and do so nothing else while it's working.
Use a strap
Yeah a little wire bungie would do the trick
Ya, those ideas would work clumsily, but you know what would be better: A tool that was designed with the necessary features built-in. C'mon Makita - I know you can do better.
I use velcro strips to keep my tools cables tidy.
I just keep one of these permanently attached to the handle.
so when I need use it I just velcro the trigger.
They don't put a trigger lock on it because they don't want you to run it for more than 5 minutes. Of course they could have just put a timer on it since people like me will just use something to keep it on. I use a small velcro strap. Not really a problem and that little compressor works great. I have a bunch of old cars and trailers and something always has a low tire. I also take it with me on camping trips and help other people out with it. I'm going to get a second one to just leave in my camper.
One of the reasons might be that you have to be aware of the time it have been into action. Max 5min until cool down is what is recommended. It will become very hot if it’s bigger objects
Good point.
You can use a Velcro strap to keep the trigger locked in the ON position.
That's what I do, and it sucks. Trying to figure out why my Makita LXT battery operated circular saw has a trigger lock on it so I can cut my foot in half when setting down the saw down, but I can't get that feature on this dinky pump where it would be useful.
@@danatyler5892 🤣 Good point!!!
The brass piece is a Presta valve adapter. For use with presta valves on bike tires and tubes.
The omission of a trigger lockout is almost a deal breaker for me. Pretty baffling they wouldn't have one espescially since it has the great auto-off feature. I want to be able to turn it on, walk around and clean up the shop and come back for the next tire when it is finished.
@@james4878 Yup. I ended up getting the Milwaukee M12 inflator and getting on that battery system. Kind of annoying but the M12 line has some nice tools and I ended up buying their radio and jigsaw as well since I was in the market.
It wouldn't be too hard to make something to hold the trigger in. I thought of a couple of ideas while watching the vid. Great vid, just what I'm looking for. I'm off to buy one.
I think all you have to do is click the trigger like it’s a push button and then leave it it would finish itself if you have a preset pressure established. But this guy got trigger-happy and couldn’t let it go
Yeah same here a real let down by Makita there.
I just jam a 90% used small roll of duct tape (has the right diameter size).
Thanks for making a video on this. I just ordered one because of it. It will be nice not having to use a bicycle pump to fill and top of my car tires anymore and my back will think me lol.
Another option is battery adapters. I am on the Mikita platform but bought a Ryobi tire inflator and a Ryobi to Mikita battery adapter. They work fine together and I have not had any issues. However my usage is light.
Zip tie would solve the "need to hold" feature. Or a cheap Velcro strap. Slide one over the trigger, walk away.
I found an elegant solution to the lack of trigger lock issue: Change the switch operation from normally-open to normally closed. I converted my inflator and now the trigger acts as a "Start/Reset" button instead of "Run". The conversion was pretty easy. I did need to order a new microswitch to replace the factory one as it lacks the normally-closed contact. And then to get the switch with the additional contact in the case, a small piece of plastic needed to be nibbled out of the case. Problem solved.
This is a great fix - don't suppose you have the make/model number of the factory NO switch and the NC switch you used? Was any modification needed on the switch or was it a straight swap?
Thank you (from the UK) for a straightforward informative review.
I have bought one as a result! 👍
awesome testing and review man!! really love this video you created.. This type of portability is what I need for my wife. No alligator clamps needed to hook up on a 12V CCM batt. Really good thoughts you put on it, especially the lack of a longer hose, which is a plus point on a Thumper MAX (Aussie brand).
An elastic around the handle can solve the absence of auto trigger feature.
Thank you nice video to the point without unnecessary sarcasm or ego
Thanks for point out that big design flaw in that there's no trigger lock to hold down the button.
I use a plastic multi purpose clamp to hold my button, but I like another comment about using a velcro strap.
Thanks for the informative video. Exactly what I was looking for.
Have one for my mercedes 300h and does the job awesome 4.5 star would of give 5 but for lack of locking trigger but don't let this put you off
Looks very usefull for trackdays👌🏻
I like this inflator but the switch locking feature makes me hesitate to buy this thing i hope makita will improve their design on their next model it not easy to press the button for long time
Today Makita posted. for 119. get a 5.0 battery, a charger and pick one of 7 tools for free, just got this... choice between, sander, lawn clippers, blower, light, inflator, small recip saw and multi tool
So annoyed at Makita coming out with the 12v version I didn't think they were coming out with this and I ended up getting the ryobi instead and a battery converter. But I'm kinda glad I got the ryobi now as it has a switch so you can back away from it and leave it running but the valve is really low quality. Cmon makita do the auto lock on so I can sell the ryobi and get this.
I have got nothing to pump up but I still want one 😂
I use a small rubber ball, easy to put in and pull back out.
Makita needs to come out with a car jumper pack !!
Thanks good video straight forward and informative..I already ordered one from Amazon.
looks awesome I just ordered mine! cool review!
Hiya mate. Why don't you get a bit cord like thick string and wrap it round the handle, then slide it over the trigger when you need to run it fir a while. I understand what you mean though, the air hawk has that function and its much cheaper. You get more for your money!
I'm guessing the unknown adapter is the one to use with Presta valves that you'll find on high pressure bike tires like the ones on road bikes that usually works with a pressure around or even above a 100psi (mines are rated at 125psi). Seems like a pretty useful tool to me... Well I know I sure can use it though...
Good informative video straight to the point .
No auto on is a major design floor.
That lack of an auto hold feature is a huge fail. My truck tires are 80psi Im not going to stand there for 15mins holding the trigger. I could hold the trigger down with a zip tie but that would risk over inflation. Great review, though!
Why would it over-inflate? It auto stops once it detects the desired PSI has been reached.
Don't you have a car or pickup tire to inflate? I was kinda hoping to see its actual performance on those kinds of tires...unless this inflator is made only for handtruck tires :)
I use it for my cars
Its a french valve adapter,... seen a lot on racing bike tires,... ;) The brass attachement that is.
I wonder if they see not having a lock-on switch is in case something goes wrong and it just keeps pumping, potentially causing a tire explosion.
The unknown attachment is for a Presta valve tube.
Kinda on the fence buying this one after buying my first Makita Tool ( a DPT353 Pin-Nailer ) since it's making use of the same 18V Battery which would then get some more use out of - The only guaranteed use for the Pin-Nailer, right now, would be to have a more convenient method in securing stock material to my CNC's Spoil Board but the longer I think about it the more I can see the agony of the Battery being in the Shop with the Nailer when I need it for my the Pump and my Bike or it being with my Bike when I need it in the Shop 🤣
The only issue with the on lock that you are talking about is that the inflator max duty cycle is 5 minutes on 5 minutes off.
No auto off feature is a deal killer.
Guesd could use zip tie hold trigger. Then use cutters when finished
Resurrecting the comment section... Good video I've been pretty happy with the tool so far. I am interested in may you're using in the beginning of the end of the video. Where does one find a mat like that?
What's the minimum psi? Can you set it as low as 5PSI? Thanks!
Yes, 5
Good review! will it fit in a standard Makita Blue plastic tool Box?
Get a spring clip to hold the trigger.
Dissappointed that will not accept the 18V BL1815 Lithium Ion battery that came with my Makita LXDT04 Impact Driver and LXFD01 Drill. I bought as a set about 5 years ago.😕
Nothing a bit of tape or a cable tie that slides up the handle wouldn't fix 👍
I have one. The Best. We have 5 cars. Transalp. Segway. Etc.
You have to hold the button down. My work van needs 80psi on the back, this is lame.
Think this would work to top off travel trailer tires during travel? I like the size/weight as compared to a dedicated unit (eg, "viar"). Thx for the upload!
Yes
Can you use it as a dust blower?
Holding a trigger each tyre is a pain
Hi u can put a rop and remuve it on on of
I need a good portable or corded compressor to use for blowing out dust out of electronic, would you recommend this or do you know of any other that could do the job?
Great review would of liked to see you inflate a truck Tire. Thanks
@@guido9515 I imagine it would take several goes to inflate something so large and to such a high pressure. It is rated to 120psi but others have mentioned a 5 minute duty cycle. Probably about as good as it's going to get on a little 18V wireless inflator, especially if you already have the batteries.
no! i use Bar in Estonia ;)
perfect well priced
I will not buy this until the obvious issue with the auto on is resolved. Other than that this looks like a great tool.
It’s definitely a short coming but I still use it all the time. Just use a little metal twiste tie on the trigger b
Awesome video:) i have a mountainbike. Is it compatible with the prestavslve or schrader valve???
Yes it is, the brass adaptor fits over the presta valve and basically turns it into a schrader valve. I use it for all my bikes.
auto on via zip tie
@@james4878 seriously!!! Not too tight and it can be moved on and off the switch multiple times. If you think what you have to say is stupid it's probably best to keep your mouth shut.... Or open it and remove all doubt 🧐
So it does not have auto pumping action once the psi is set to specific number & it does not automatically stops once the set psi is reached
It has auto off after desired PSI is met. Caveat is you have to hold the trigger down.
I almost bought another small air compressor just for dusting electronics. Would you say there's enough pressure to use this for dusting (similar pressure as in those canned dusters)?
No way. It’s very weak in that regard.
@@Archifx Thanks a lot!
Reading throw comments & noticed urs Yes min u can do re blowing electronics as I also use mine for similar issues but very seldom & also I use it to blow the dust out off my hover when servicing even the small holes that’s around the filters housing on ie the portable battery Dyson hovver - even use mine too blow brake dust off when I service my vehicle brakes - doesn’t have mega pressure there a but thou - the must do is add the ball inflator adapter the long thin middle like one - onto the main tyre pressure unit as it concentrates & creates a higher out put pressure so definitely helps & have used an air duster tin & this makita gadget last way longer than a tin does especially when u get feed up getting a very cold ice hand ... if u get this comment ....
Was at Home Depot a week ago, I saw this 18v inflator and purchased it, but I knew already about the trigger it won’t lock when it’s in use, I used it n it’s a perfect product I’d say! yeah, except this 1little issue, still easy fix though cuz I’m thinking to buy small heavy duty clamp for trigger.. problem solved 👍🏼
Just a small wooden block will do the job wedged under the trigger.
That attachemt if for smaller inflators on bike tires l have them on mine.
use a cable tie in the trigger
Does the flashlight have to be on?
Hello sir whats the strongest recharble enflator fot vehicle tyres
Hi
How to charge the battery
А у Китайских аналогов есть функция блокировки клавиши. Нажал и ушел. Качает не хуже, комплектация та же.
Thats great...my question is... Ist possible to attach a spray gun ...for painting use... In a very small projects..or for retouch
No. Not strong enough
Hi fix it now made a comment on Taurus comment plus leaving one for u - as u made me laugh a little as when ur talking about the tyre inflater u mentioned that it’s strong and we’ll build because ur 250 “ and u put ur hand pressure on it really ur arm and part off ur body weight unless u were thinking while using the item u well doing like a one handed balance hand stand on the unit in then yes well u would have been putting 250 “ on the handle - ie use the ball 🎾 adaptor the long thin one as it concentrates the pressure to clean electrics & also service my hoovers and even blow dust on my vehicle when doing a brake service as multiple uses with that thin needle like adapter on the end - ie in u will more than likely very seldom use that adapter ie balls 🏀 🎾 .... & can even push a very thin pipe on the end off it so u can go deaper in so 👍cheers but better info for u & even u can use a ball 🎾 clamp 🗜 or Velcro strap too hold the trigger down and even a tree 🌲 branch or a bit off stick wood & if need be an ice lolly stick long ways in it even a simple bit off thicker cardboard flood up will keep that trigger up - so am saying because it’s very portable if u get caught out 😂use what’s every around u so that’s being inventive & creative re ASAP problem solving & there’s probably a built in max safe usage as why the trigger can’t be kept on - so spot on makita for not adding that lock function as it created some confusion re not being able too keep the trigger locked 🔒🥴😜😂..... so add inventiveness too this invention & it’s way better than electric cable or ur foot 🦶 that takes muscles 💪 and ur lungs which also need air to work ...
@Fix It Now...Just bought this air compressor for $99...And got a Makita hammer drill and impact driver with two 4Ah batteries, fast charger and bag for FREE...a $279 value!!!
What about airing up tires when off trading? Probably not. Would need one for each tire. Lol
Can I use any of the Mikita lithium 18v rechargeable batteries with it?
Of course you can
No, you can't. I just purchased this and it has a yellow receiver on the bottom of the tool so it requires newer 18v batteries with Star protection like a BL1820B (2.0ah).
@@vettepwr23 i havent seen this in person but typically you can take a chisel and remove that plastic stopper on the tool which prohibits you from using the older batteries. I have done this with my 18v jigsaw....
@@jeffb321 Actually I just got a BL1815 to work. Had to remove a bit of plastic on the battery pack not the tool. It's not really worth it as the battery was dead after inflating 4 car tires from 29 to 33.5 psi.
Can you inflate other things with it or just tirevalves?
Blow up tyres, Balls, mattresses… you can even blow dust off tools apparently.
A cable tie solves the problem
so, getting this for motorcycle tires would be good? and also my wifes car tires, shes got a spark. and also does it stop when it hits the psi you need? or is that why they dont have an auto locker for it?
It stops when it reaches desired PSI and yes. Get it for your motorcycle and car tires. It’s awesome.
@@Archifx i bought it. gets here on thursday. pretty fast shiping by amazon. thank you for the review. awesome.
Can you deflate things with it?
No
Rap some Velcro around the trigger
What is the max psi it can pump out?
Would this work as a blower?
No blow function 120 psi
@@Archifx okay, thanks
Zip tie on the handle for sure
I'll be looking for the lowest pressure, highest volume inflater. Some inflaters have 250psi, which is ridiculous, and slows it down. Ideally, a tire inflater would have a ~65psi rating, and very good volume. Love the Makita, BTW, and looks like a well-placed tie wrap could be used as a trigger holder. ,)
Many trucks require 75+ psi in their tires.
@@LouieCastro3 Agree! In that case, you should use a truck tire inflater. These little ones will burn up on a truck tire.
@@Bob_Adkins So I have to have 2 inflators? I bought this one and it fills tires plenty fast.
Glad I can use it with a road bike and car and dont have to buy two.
@@LouieCastro3 It will work on large tractor and truck tires, but you have time to drink 2 cups of coffee while it fills them. look up "Project Farm" for a comparison of this type of inflaters.
It's pretty obvious why there isn't a trigger lock.....liability if a tire blows up because it malfunctioned and didn't turn off.
Hello, does it blow air without being plugged into a valve?`
Asking since im wondering if I could use it to clean/dust my pc aswell, from time to time.
Yes it does. You could use it as a duster. It’s not the strongest pressure but it would get the job done
Youre better off with a pancake inflator.
Yes. Very practical.
no tire inflator can be used as a duster, if u do so, you’ll waste time with 0 results, guaranteed, although there’s actually a cordless rechargeable duster u can buy on amazon, eBay.
What I mean this inflator is firmly engineered to inflate tires, air mattress or other inflatables
Love mine. But A real shame it doesn't have a nozzle attachment to blow out dust, debris etc. Not thinking, Makita!
It’s just not powerful enough. Tool has a purpose.. to inflate tires and small items. It does it well but it definitely needs a mechanism to keep the unit running without holding the trigger.
Not happy about the makitadmp1800zLi-ion cordless tyre inflater not having a buttery how do I get one
Wait I can fill my car tires with that little thing ?????
If you have 16-20 mins to spare
@@Archifx Great video. I'm curious though, and wonder if you might be able to answer my questions... I like to go off roading. My car runs 32 inch tyres which I set at about 40psi highway pressure. When I go off road I usually drop them to somewhere between 18-25psi. Would this unit be capable of re-inflating my tyres back up to 40psi when I get back to the highway? And if so, roughly how long do you think it would take to pump each tyre back up, and how much power would inflating all four tyres back up consume?
This isn’t for you. You’d be out there for hours lol. It’s a slow slow compressor. And the motor would burn up eventually
@@Archifx Thanks mate! 👍
Will it pump up a .22 pcp air rifle can anyone help please
No, in a PCP the pressure is away above what this machine is capable of doing. PCP are although varies between manufacturer for 12 ft/lbs this is up to 800psi, which is 55 bar.
Galera cheia de MIMIMI porque tem que segurar o gatilho...Eita moçada mole.....
Miss Makita misses the mark on a lot of their engineering like the light placement on drills and Excedra I mean they do a good job and i love them but some parts are failing it's like how did they miss that obviously they don't use the tools
What is the max PSI?
120PSI
on box it says 120 psi, the manual says 830 kPa ( 121 PSI ), and actually tool itself reads Max pressure of 121 psi .
Not good design if you have to hold the trigger.
Thanks for the video, definitely skipping this one , it's torture having to hold the trigger all the time ⏲️
