It wasn't just that he scored nine goals. 5 or 6 of them were critical and several were right at the end of the game when France needed them. Perhaps a performance unsurpassed since in a single competition.
im not saying you are wrong, just fontaine scored 13 in 1958 world cup, garrincha apparently was fucking sick in 1962, maradona dominated the 1986 world cup, Ronaldo came back from injury in 2002 to score 8, they are all up there
His performance was incredible , but saying that it has no equals is wrong in my opinion :Maradona dominated World Cup 1986 : 5 goals and 5 assists ( 4 of these goals were in semi-final and quarter-final , also another one in important match against Italy ( World Champions ) on group stage , to tie the game . 3 out of 5 assists were done against South Korea so he organized victory over them for Argentina with his 3 brilliant passes and most important assists was in the final , where again Maradona with brilliant vision made a great pass sending Burruchaga against German goalkeeper and clinching victory for Argentina ). Fontaine in 1958 with 13 goals in 1 tournament !!!Garrincha was unstoppable in 1962 Ronaldo came back from injury and scored 8 goals in 2002 , 2 of them were in Final against Germany.Platini's performance is up there with all of those , however I wouldn't say that it was undoubtedly the best.

I don't know if any single player could ever surpass Platini's performance in this Euros at another Euros, he quite literally won France the trophy, a midfielder who scored 9 goals in 5 games.. freekicks, headers, left foot, right foot, penalties.. he literally done it all in this tournament. His goal record will be beaten because the Euros seems to have more games added on every time.. back in 86 there were only 3 group games.. then straight to the Semis and Final. Although I do prefer the current system, more games the better for me.

Je regrette de ne pas l'avoir connu en tant que joueur. C'était un prodige, capable de marquer des 2 pieds, de la tête, sur coup-franc, penalty etc. Ça devait être un régal d'assister à ces épopées de 82, 84 et 86.

@@GH-yp3vd l'émotion aussi...en 82 personne n'attendait l'edf à ce niveau...Quand on avait interrogé d'autres entraineurs d'autres équipes sur l'edf..ils faisaient semblant de trouver que l'edf était bonne mais se mettait à rire...Les français ont pris conscience de leur potentiel en demi finale contre les allemands...ils pensaient qu'ils allaient perdre haut la main, mais pour les élliminer il a fallu d'enormes tricheries, un vrai scandale. Et le fameus france bresil 1986 le plus beau match de l'histoire du foot
