i remember in the old days when there was no real meta, everyone smiled at mesmer and thought of it as an only pvp class...now its one of the best, if not the best profession
@@olgaknowsbestofficial Same, I started mine a year before the infamous mesmer update which made them the best damage dealers on top of supercharging their shutdown capabilities. I beelined for Signet of Illusions and played as a very versatile orders or damage dealer build either using various elementalist spells, or ritualist channeling spells. Oh and the bugged PvE skills that I could use at rank 11 power (this back when they scaled from rank 1 to 10, instead of rank 1 to 5)
If anything, Peter is misinforming the players about their weaknesses. E-surge is about as braindead as it gets. Armor is meaningless when the biggest threat to a party is armor-ignoring damage and you can go for a shield set anytime or already rely on ST to deal with big packets that make it through a panic-shutdown screen.
So sure these weaknesses exist, but they rarely come into play in most practical circumstances.
Mesmer day 1
just started playing again 3 weeks ago, but i can already say, we all love u peter 😌
i just finished my LDoA Mesmer ... now i wanna farm with it :) .... took me way too long but i did it all on my own and am happy about it ...
Another fun build that I used to use long ago was a spell thief.
Signet of illusions, arcane thievery, arcane larceny, inspired enchantment, inspired hex, arcane echo, arcane mimicry, and a filler skill.
It was a constantly changing bar depending on the enemies and casts everything well due to Signet of Illusions and partial shutdown from up to 3 stolen spells.
Thank you Peter! Didn't like Mesmer at the time and never felt like playing it until I saw your guide. Once again, you're keeping the flame alive, I'm very grateful for all the work you do!

Thank you, this was a fun watch. I started playing with KSS when I got Curtain last year and it is my go-to build because it is involved and fun while still being effective with like 100+ armour.

Started to play the game 2 days ago as a Mesmer. Great Video.
I just started and got my first level. All I understand so far, that I should spend on fast casting so I did. Guide seems so detailed and there seems too many skills to pick from. It looks like GW1 was hardcore but in GW2, everything became more casual and so success came with the casuality. I'll definetly check this guide when I learn some more about mechanics and skills. Thank you for the guide. Liked and subbed.
I've discovered mesmer recently because wasn't fond of the concept (unlike in GW2 where you have cool illusions) and I haven't played a ton of it, but it really is OP.
I have never struggled with energy management however, and I don't think it's harder than any other class, if anything it's probably easier because how stupid OP it is. I think the correct phrasing would be to say it has a higher skill cap as you have to time the interrupts perfectly. There is surely a great difference between a casual mesmer and an expert mesmer :D

Love the videos man! Question though, for the UW farming build at 15:14 how do you get to plains. I tried using this and couldn't get passed the start. Bring heroes to get you there?
yes, dont even try without heroes, kill stuff till necessary, then flag heroes somewhere

My friends and I just started playing again, and are trying to buy a guild hall. Is there a good way to get a celestial signet as a new-ish group?

@ sadly most of those quests require hard mode or having been a good way though a lot of the expansions. Most of the players I'm with are on their first play through of factions.
Is there a way to buy one from players?
I have mained a Ritual for so long. I have completed Slavers Exile HM without cons and would like to give mesmer a try. Do you think it would be easier or harder to do Slavers HM without cons with Mesmer?

When I was playing back in 06-09 the Mesmer was hard to kill in PvP. If you didn’t have a ranger or necromancy with you it could not be defeated.
Can you stack Time Ward with the ebon standard of wisdom? For super fast recharge?
Recharge is a thing, having mana to cast spells is another.
in theory you can? if the half recharge from 'wisdom' happens and let's say you have 15 fast casting(15x3%), then a 15sec e-surge should be 15x0,5x0,55 plus if the elite really stacks up to that another 0,8 multiplier, but i havent tested yet, I feel like only the 50% half skill recharge and fast casting's bonus would happen though. But what I know is that serpent's quickness 33% does not work over 50%(so if you half recharge then serpent wont give another 0,33). Over 50% only fast casting can help afaik
people say that time ward is one of the weakest new elites, for the reason about you asked.
Recharge reduction caps out at 50%, you would get a 20% faster recharge time guaranteed with a 60% chance of it being 50% reduced. Same with a 40/40 set and wisdom, it checks one and then the other but doesn't stack the recharge speeds. Single skills can push it higher than 50% (ie "these skills recharge instantly" skills) but combined 50% is max.
I'd like to play Mesmer, as a returning player, but mastering the interrupts...yeah, I don't know.

While strong if not focused in some scenarios, thing is, mesmers to be effective rely a lot on their team performance. Necros or rangers are way less team dependant to do stuff and to be useful. That's also something.
