I had the pleasure of seeing a male Varied Thrush for a brief minute a couple years ago, in Shawano. Was pleasantly surprised by this less likely visitor.
Glad you guys got to see one, as well as the other species. Great video!

Great video! I love the varied thrush too. We have them year-round here (western Washington state.) Also the Swainson's, which isn't as pretty looking but has a beautiful call.

Glad you found it! I was two days too late. The trees had been completely picked over in that lot. However, an eBirder said they sighted it an hour after I left high atop a tree for a minute and then it flew off and no one has reported it since. Neat area though, worth checking out in the future.

You know, I lived in WA for a while before I became an active birder. I saw lots of species I never had seen before moving there, but never did see a Varied Thrush. Now, living back in the Midwest and looking at ebird lists from the county where I lived in WA, I don't know how I never saw one.

I’ve got to check out Door County next time I’m in Wisconsin. I bet the tip of that County is a CRAZY good trap during spring migration. Delta County, Michigan just across the lake from Door County is great in spring, and that’s where the birds must be coming from.

Do you guys ever go to Sax Zim Bog? It is a great place to see winter birds and owls. There is also a pine Martin and ermine in the area.

Glad you both were able to see the thrush. When I visited the location in January, a small flock of Pine Grosbeaks flew in and joined the Varied Thrush to feed on berries. Exciting stuff!

My shots were pretty decent, but I would like to go back again to see if I can do better 🙂
Definitely a beautiful bird and my favorite Thrush as well 👍

Honestly there are some pretty birds, like Magnolia Warbler, that are so stunning, but nobody cares about them because they are dime a dozen. But being from the West Coast, I can confidently say that everyone still gets a rush when they find a VATH!!!

I couple days ago I had one come to my feeder. I found this extremely wierd. I thought that there must be a derth of food available causing the thrush to come to my feeder. Whidbey Island, Washington. They are, what I would say, uncommon here.
