Getting the bottom of the crank case off is very hard , only goes so far and doesn’t want to come off , pain in the neck lol. I wanted to give the engine an over all clean up , I put vegetable oil in one day thinking that was ok , nope it gummed up the motor so lesson learned , don’t just try anything lol now it’s a pain in the a#$ having to pull it to pieces.
hey i have the same grill as you in the vid. but i have a question how would one take the carburator off to clean it, do i need to open up the crank case to remove it or no?
Oh no. Nothing like opening the crank case. When I show inside the carb @1:02, you can see there are 2 hex head bolts that secure it to the cylinder, undo those and it'll come off. You then loosen the screw on the bottom of the float chamber (nasty brown cylinder with caked-on dirt) and pop that off so you can get inside. My grandpa used to use muriatic acid to clean them out on his mopeds when they were gummed up, and it always seemed to work. I've used that stuff to clean lots of things that were rusty or gummed up. just clean that off too or else you'll be inviting more rust. The acid probably isn't necessary though unless it's really gummy.

Simple motor. gaskets are the expensive part to replace. Watch out for cheap piston ring sets on ebay, oil control is not good with them.

Did you find why it quit running?
There was a small broken piece inside that allowed the governor assembly to move around in places where it shouldn't have.
