    Wow, raining outside, rebuilding an engine with a couple cold ones. Best day EVER!

    I just ordered a gasket set for a Briggs flathead I’ve got on a mower I picked off side of road. Engine runs great but excited to practice disassembling, measuring crankshaft journal for wear and reassembling. Had a chance to practice lapping the valves and removing about 2 thou off the exhaust valve stem too which was fun!

    Legend has it that that rain came so hard and so fast that part 2 was filmed, but it lays at the bottom of river in a GoPro in an unknown English town.
    Right next to the rebuilt engine....

    Job well done. I've torn hundreds of these engines apart and am sitting well for spare parts. How they go together again, who the hell knows.

    That engine is a dead giveaway because of the air filter on it. They had both metal and later plastic ones that are both the same shape. But I can't get over the size of the muffler and huge heat guard on this thing. Here in Australia I ended up with a cheaper US version of this engine with like a tuna tin sized muffler.

    Excellent video. And for those asking for part two, there's really no need for it. Just reassemble in the reverse of the tear down.

    I watched this video so I could work out how to get the piston out (the rings are busted). The engine fits the description perfectly so I should be able to do it no problem!

    The rain didn’t bother me, G. I wouldn’t have noticed it, or ignored it if I had. I need to take a minute before I start to get ready. Take care.

    Thanks, I disassembled a quattro like this to clean it and then waited and waited for a new head gasket to arrive, foolishly thinking reassembly should be a doddle - ended up with the two flywheel guards hanging around and wasn't able to figure out how they re-attached! A slow-mo of this let me see the position and fixings - thanks!

    What a great video. I have a very smokey 3.5hp unit. I believe a ring job is needed but after watching this that looks to be a piece of cake. Probably harder to ascertain the engine model number for correct parts.

  • @ottofumbler7267
    @ottofumbler7267 5 років тому

    Hold on just a minute! 1:07 the bolts to the oil filler tube are already out. I've tried every socket in my toolbox, and nothing fits. Even tried adjustable wrenches, mole grips, and slip joint pliers. Nothing budges these bolts.
    Please... what size are they, and how did you get them off? I'm guessing you had the same problem and that's why the video is clipped just before this point?
    Edit: Ignore that. I've just watched another video, and I don't need to unscrew these bolts. The filler tube lifts out (pulls up) along with the starter coil. Only an issue if the filler tube itself is broken.

    Great video! I have a similar engine from a techumesh lawn mower. I'm thinking of running the cylinder vertical for go-kart engine, so the drive shaft is horizontal. If I do this how can I ensure the oil will reach the crack shaft unless I fill the crankcase full to the brim with oil?

However, it quickly turned out that this creates a kind of contact bridge between battery packs and lawn mowers. An additional backup as a father of a 1 year old nephew is great!! :-)
