I love this guy. I love his poetic worldviews, his anger at injustice and his contempt for showbusiness/marketing.
If you want a great interview with Brando, let him talk about what he's passionate about. Too many tried to make him talk about what they thought the audience wanted to hear. Or what Hollywood wanted. He hated to talk about acting so most interviews were him trying to manipulate the conversation in another direction. IMO if they allowed him to speak about what he was passionate about, rather than trying to get him to talk about his process or plugging something, people would go see anything he was in out of sheer fascination of who he was as a person. The best interview I've seen with him was with Dick Cavett in 1973.

Love Marlon Brando real ness. One of the few real people in Hollywood. He was also well informed of other people’s struggles firsthand . He also was one of the best actors ever.
I love Brando. But I don't think there was much "realness" to him. He was always performing. Everything for affect.

"Where is your Oscar? - I think my secretary has it" hahahaha that was so funny! Just says a lot about his personality - of how he doesn't care about the awards and monetary gain. He stayed true to himself and what he has done. He is truly an inspiration!
To say that Brando didn't care about monetary gain is pretty ridiculous, to be honest.

Actually, he did not. He let friends steal from him cos they were poorer, let his dad lose 0000's in bad investments. But, later in lufe, after 3 divorces, losing 20 mil thru his dad, his island and all those Israeli or Civil Rights or Native Am causes, he had to do ANY work to get money. He did not sell his soul...friends n wives n sex are not in his book, not did he do adverts like Karl Malden or Michael J or Liz T with perfume.

I worked with Marlon on Don Juan DeMarco… I loved the man… very eccentric as a man who has been indulged his whole adult life can be… but very knowledgeable about the things he’s passionate about.. and very charismatic and engaging when you’re lucky enough to be in one on one conversation with him. He was cantankerous, funny, a prankster… treated the crew very well. I could tell stories but they would take to long to type.

@@nic8834 I liked Johnny .. I didn’t engage with him much.. Marlon was much more accessible. Depp spent most of his time in his trailer with his gf and when the door would open the smoke would billow out 😁

And yes my favourite movie with Brando is his favourite too , "Burn"🤗 ,oh and the song and kiss at the end priceless , I'm sure they both sing this SONG in heaven from time to time 😂🤣😂

Brando is very clear and makes a lot of sense in this interview. I have to hand it to Larry King for not letting him walk over him -I think that helped to get him to speak so sensibly and not just BS him through the whole interview. Also, age and weight did not take away his features and charming smile. But, he must have been so pissed off when he saw that they kept his bare feet and little stool in the shot.

Brandon wouldn’t let King keep control of the interview. He gave King a hell of a time, but Larry seemed good natured about it by joking with him either before/after breaks & swatting Brando with a piece of paper! 😅

Half of this interview was Marlon saying "What?" every time Larry interrupted him. But seriously, I recommend everyone reads Brando's autobiography. He was a very interesting and flawed man
What a clever, sensitive and lucid man, always defending the lonely and poor people ,the Indians ,the
black people,defending also mother nature so wild life .
He had a lot of compassion concernig people on the side also .
And used when he was a kid and a teenager to bring back home ,persons living in the street and
wounded animals to save them too because he loved animals deeply indeed.
however all this uge human's qualities he is " even so he would'nt like me to say that" but it is just an
evidence the best Actor above all.

He did to every guest, so at least he did not discriminate anyone. Lol. Larry was so annoying..
I think that the interviewers are not really listening or understanding what Marlon is wanting to say!! He constantly is saying in ever interview I have seen of him he’s not wanting to talk about his fame; movies, money, wealth he just wants to talk about topics news anything helpful to other people.
The only reason anybody knew about or paid attention to Brando was his revolutionary, compelling and amazing acting talent. The world is chocked full of philosophers, activists and opinion holders but only one person could ACT the way Brando could. He seemed to vacillate between over self importance and distain for his own gift. He did not enjoy mental health. I don't know what happened to him around 1960 but he completely lost control of himself. Sad but interesting.
@@paulascott5701 What do you mean exactly when you say he did not enjoy mental health ?.. i read Brando was a very sensitive and self destructive person for what he went through as a Child.. if he could have, i am sure he would have chose to be happy fame did not make him happy at all... Brando was a Really good person despite his errors, he is just a human being and could not ever face his demons
@@Pablo-ig7tx It depends on how you define "mental health" doesn't it? You seem to acknowledge that Brando was unstable but then you assert that he should not be counted as a person who was not mentally healthy because of his childhood. If a person is unstable because of valid reasons, they are still unstable. Brando admitted to being a "failure" as a father. I would rather stay that he simply did not father any of his any children (that he had with at least a half dozen women), he intentionally disrupted movie productions and gave the reason as "because I can", he bought other women home in front of his wives, etc.. He did not enjoy mental health. I do not condem him for that, it is merely a fact. Even is friend and next door neighbor, Jack Nicholson, called him "Mar-Loon-Brando"..with affection. Nobody can touch Marlon Brando in the field of acting. I would not have wanted to be close to him personally.

I agree with a big portion of what you said and without entering the “mental” zone here (because I believe we all drag some stones from trauma just in different proportions) I just think he would’ve been much happier as an theater actor. He was an actor for love of the craft, it might’ve been also because it allowed him to wonder away from his own issues I don’t know but, as unfortunate as it sounds theater actors are less known and appreciated by the masses. I believe the theater makes the greatest actors it just doesn’t sell as much as the cinema industry.
But one would have to be completely in denial to recognize that his demeanor was condescending in huge amounts towards people who only felt curiosity to know how he’d become the as great of an actor as he was.

I think he just didn't want people to idolize him, he was trying to tell people that he was nothing special that he was like anyone one of us. That he was us a regular person and he should not be idolized

I love that he's in his bare feet during a big tv interview. It's criminal the commercial interruptions and King, though a good interviewer, ruined some moments needlessly cutting off Brando here.
I love it when Marlin put his face in the camera in front of Larry. He was totally anti Hollywood anti movie star and he was so cool for that.

Two things I’ve had difficulty with is anger and boredom. And this civilization is packed with boring things they tell you are fun and exciting and they just make me feel like I’m being strangled and here comes the anger. So at this stage I’m just coasting along and having whatever enjoyment I can especially when I’m alone.
I Absolutely love Marlon Brando!♥️♥️♥️♥️If you're not an American Indian, you're an immigrant. Brando was as real as they get. He had the looks, talent & empathy for people. He was always for the underdog. He really was a genius. He had so many inventions patented. Those slipper shoes that you wear while swimming, he had something made for bongo drums & an underwater system that air conditions hotel rooms in Bora Bora & I believe also in Tahiti. Brando knew something about so many things. I wish I was born then.😔😪
I feel for anyone that ever interviewed Brando. Yes he was a good actor and on his personal side an intellectual, but my god he played with everyone of his interviewers.

Just like certain movies that I love that some people that I know can't stand certain types of humor I get, And some I don't, it doesn't mean that you're missing out, You either love this guy when he opens his mouth or you don't

The horror, the horror
From several interviews I've seen of Marlon Brando it seems he is scattered but it's on purpose, he is humble but mostly low self -esteem to accept the praise by saying" acting isn't hard, everyone can do it" minimizing his talent. However seeing an interview with his unimpressed father remark he isn't impressed with Marlon's acting/movies you can tell that likely is why Marlon remained minimized ignoring the compliments to his talent because he heard his father's remarks to likely anything he's done even before acting. Notice he shifts questions off of himself and on to the interviewer to avoid speaking of himself. He had a lot he kept in but made sure no one truly could see the real him/emotional baggage.

im glad you mentioned the secret societies. They definitely hated him for standing up for truth and human dignity. he did that in so many ways. e.g. supporting the Black Panthers. God, there is no more fascinating than Brando I swear. He lived through the most important time in this country and he had stories to tell but no one real was asking him the right questions.

This makes Larry King look like a terrible interviewer. It is not dialogue. It was like shooting bullets at Marlon. Marlon is trying to carry on a dialogue and Larry King is already worried about the next question and not the answer.

Brando would have been successful at whatever he decided to put his mind to. We are fortunate he choose acting. He has no equal as an actor, none!

Brando was that guy during his time here. His plight of the black American is heavily skewed yet something tells me it’s intentional. Although he was philosophical in his daily thinking, he’s not concealing his pain. Maybe he’s not trying to. This life is full of complexities and contradictions.

Interesting, here Marlon says he was never depressed, however in his autobiography he gives an example of being depressed and having a nervous breakdown while in NY during the beginning stages of his career..!

It’s a shame Brando never really tried to talk about acting. He says silly things like “everybody is an actor”, which is nonsense. He was a highly skilled actor but he never talked about the skill involved. He never talked about his technique, his way of getting inside a character. Maybe he couldn’t explain it himself.
He was a great observer of humans, it saved him when young, to do imitations to make his drunken mum, smile.
You just dont try to understand him because u disagree with him. He doesnt have to meet yours or anyones expectations and u dont like it.
Brando did teach some acting classes. He just didn’t like to talk about acting in interviews, because he hated being primarily thought of as an actor and more importantly, because he felt there were far more important and urgent things to talk about and raise awareness of.

It took a long time to figure out who I was and until I could afford to buy an island in Tahiti. Brando was a terrific actor, but to think he has more insight into life than a grocery clerk is absurd.
