1960s Tonka Sanitary Systems Garbage Truck Toy Restoration

- It's been 90 Days since I've posted and I've been up to a lot since then! I had to make my garage ready for some new equipment I ordered earlier this year. Hopefully I'll have a shop tour soon to show you all my setup. I purchased a Senfeng Fiber Laser cutter for the ability to cut fine details on reproduction parts as well as a Precision Matthews Lathe which was also a much needed upgrade. Now with the installations complete I plan on getting back to regular releases of new videos, hopefully with some awesome new processes.
I purchased this 1960's Tonka Sanitary Systems Garbage Semi Truck on eBay January of 2022 for $53.37 after shipping. It was in terrible shape and desperately needed restoration. The rear axle was missing and replaced with a long bolt, and two less rear tires than it should have had. Three of the four hub caps were missing, the windshield was cracked and overall the truck was extremely rusty with paint flaking off every where you look. For me the highlight of this video was making the replacement hub caps. I designed the hub cap in my CAD software, then cut the steel blank on the Senfeng fiber laser before stamping it with a set of 3D resin printed dies I created. The hub caps were then soaked in an acid bath to remove all coatings, degreased, nickel plated and polished to give them the shine I wanted. Overall I'm very happy with how this restoration came out and hope you enjoy it as well! as always Thank you soo much for watching and supporting my channel!

This man is a fabricator, bodyman, painter, buffer, thinker out of the box, scientist, engineer, artist and a man on a mission. But most of all he’s a genius restorer of these timeless classics they call Tonka Toys !
Most noble axle repair from long ago to get the kid's truck back on the road. 👏😇

Very well done restoration. Spiders do have a job. Outside is better than inside.
4:10 aww cute jumping spider, also thank you for not killing it
Can't help arachnophobia. Ok spider, you're much too big. Let go outside, can't risk using the flame thrower inside the shop.😂😂😂
It’s Lucas the spider!!!!!!
jumping spiders are adorable, whenever i see a jumping spider i leave it along
It's a fan of the channel and wanted an autograph.
Hi! My 4 year old son asked me to say to you that he loved this video! He pressed on the thumbs up for you. He loves trucks, specially trash trucks. He loves trying to build new trucks and watching how to build and fix toy trucks. Hehe 😅
you did a great job restoring the garbage truck.
Beautiful job!
Bringing this old precious vintage toys back to life is such a great hobby.
You're very skillful 👌🏼
Kind regards

The cat scan came out positive with an approval, Chip.
I lookedd to find this video in my subscription menu, I was thrilled to see it! So glad to see you back at the restoration of toys i had when I was a lad. I love the new toys you have to make in house more pieces parts. Once again, i echo thers in saying welcome back!
I thought I may have been unsubbed by UA-cam. Glad to see he’s still around.
I still have my 1960's Tonka fire engine. On that you hooked up to water and sprayed water. I bring it out at Christmas and put it under the tree. Since that is where I got it about 1966.

Very nice. And now for some kid to enjoy for many years.
As I was watching this I began to realize how long it's been since your last upload. It's good to see you back. Hopefully you won't be going away again anytime soon.
THANK YOU FOR NOT KILLING THE JUMPER I LOVE THEM. ALSO THAT WAS A TAN JUMPER OR PLATYCRYPTUS UNDATUS
Amazing as always, SO satisfying to watch, and thanks for saving the little jump spider! 😍❤
WIth all the rust of it the sheetmetal and decay of the paint, I would've sworn everything you did would've been a destructive process... and then you took the cap into the sandblast booth... wow...
Just... wow...
My hats' off, sir.
Chip, this is without doubt a gorgeous restoration. Beautiful paint job. The way you "just" make new hubcaps, awesome.

😢 MISSING YOU
Yeah just wondering what happened to chip.
Dude, you hone those talents most skillfully 😁👌🏽
Sure am glad to see another video!! Been missing them! I was surprised how well the metal held up during sand blasting. The job on the wheel covers was over the top!!!! Excellent job as usual. Can't wait to see the video of the new shop!!!! Nice job Chip!!!
So glad you are back. Missed the restorations. Thanks for saving the spider.
Soooo happy to see you’re back! Great way to start a Sunday morning!!! Once again you blew my mind😊
The fixed cars table looks like my dream as a little boy, tonka cars were my favorite thing ever in the sandbox as they never broke, i loved those old trucks so much
You are very talented in both restoration and video production. It's a real pleasure to see your work. Hello to Restoration Cat.
Seeing you restore the old metal toys warms my heart in this age of everything plastic. Unfortunately I gave away my old Tonka toys but seeing you restore them brings back so many memories!❤
I love how a dad repaired the rear axle years ago.
Good job with the jumping spider, they are the coolest.

Look who's BACK!! great to see you posting again, I missed your video's and I see I am not alone! Hope your schedule allows you to post regularly again.
It was the longest 90 days but it was worth it-best of success with your new set up.Another great video however I was watching your other restorations that i didn't get to view.
I see why you weren’t posting, I’m happy to see you posting again! I got very worried! I thought something bad happened to you! Can’t wait to your garage tour! YOU’VE REACHED 80 RESTORED CAR COLLECTIONS! CONGRATULATIONS CHIP!
It always amazes me how you are able to turn a rusty wreck into a museum-quality restoration 👍
I know it’s silly, but thanks for not killing the little guy. Those spiders are about as close to a dog as you can get. So curious and harmless! Also, another great restoration!!
I agree, and it's not silly at all. ♡
I live in Australia, the home of all spiders and try never to kill them. The big ones usually get the compressed air treatment, ( harmlessly blown out the workshop) if they come inside. I use compressed air as trying to capture them usually results in injury as they run around batshit crazy when you corner them.
I had one jump on my hand when I was sitting outside once.
He just kept staring at me like I was an old friend. I swear he waved at me too!
Jumping Spiders are fun. Their movement is also very robotic if watch them move about. I don't know where Chip is located but our Jumping Spiders aren't that big. Ours look like little jumping beans when they're moving about. :)
ur weird lol
My 3 year old loves watching your videos, start to finish! He wakes up asking watch the Rusty Car Show 😂 Thanks for putting up something informative!❤
Missed your videos, so glad to see you're back! As always: craftmanship, quality finishes, and attention to detail are hallmarks of your projects! Thank you so much for the entertainment, but don't forget the sheep, luv' the little fur balls! Many thanx, very much enjoyed! Hope to see the tour of your shop soon! Have a great holiday season!

Understood, thank you for the reply, will ignore in the future
Those old repairs tell a story. The original owner had a craftsman for a parent, one who cared about the child.
Besides your excellent skills, your videos have also shown me the attention to detail and how well Tonka made toys. Love the videos.

Would dare to say your finest top to bottom restoration yet. Cutting your own hub caps? Amazing.
I love your channel. Thanks for sharing your work with us
Thank you for not killing that precious little jumping spider!
Oh my god, Chip is back with another great restoration, missed seeing the sheep, and the beautiful Beaker giving the trusty once over 👍
Looking as good as the day it was made.
Beautiful restoration, I see your making your own hubcaps now. Bravo 🙀
Great restoration and the tabby
Great to see you back. Back to more great restorations!

There's something very deeply satisfying watching your videos. Also somewhat depressing because I can't at the present time afford the tooling you use to do these restorations.
Thank you for not killing the spider they do their part. Wonderful job on the truck.
*Thank you for respecting the arachnid.*
Wow this one started out looking pretty rough. But as always turned out better than new. You and Chip did a great job.
So satisfying, God bless your heart.
definitely one of my favorite restorations. excellant work!
This looked like a great toy... glad you brought it back... my son loves the sandblaster. Top marks.
We miss you Chip! Hope all is well with you.
A new Sunday night treat. Thanks Chip!!
We miss you Chip. 😢
I love your work and all the praises given is well deserved. But the Tonka decal on the cab was so crooked! But...Like artisans throughout time...I chock it up to an intentional flaw so as not to anger the gods. Lol
Hello Chip, hope all is ok! Havent seen anything in 3 months, really have missed your videos! Hope to hear from you soon!
Lovely work. You know it’s a hobby when there is no need - or possibility - to amortize the expense of a plasma table, 3D printer and CAD equipment over the manufacture of wheel disks for Tonya toys.
Si. Gqueq qtq
Another great restoration! Extremely impressed with the hubcap manufacturing!! You constantly take restorations to a whole new level
That is obviously a child's well-used and well-loved toy. Your beautiful restoration will ensure that another child or collector will get to love it for years to come.
The before / after is really really impressive 🤩👍
This made my heart happy. Thanks.
Good to see you back at it, Mr Chip. It has been a while for sure. Another lovely job on an old Tonka vehicle. Better than new perhaps.
WOWWWW those hubcaps are impressive.

I still have this exact garbage truck at my mother's house. It's still in the box it came in even wow. I think I was 8 or 9 (1974-75) My whole closet there are full of Tonka and Nylint trucks. More Nylint because my mother worked at the Nylint factory in Rockford, IL my home town
*Yay, you are back. You have been missed heaps. Looking forward to seeing the shop tour. PS: Another great restoration.*

@@viejo.cotilla *He is going to do a workshop tour with the new equipment he has brought... he calls it his shop tour.*
One of my favorite smells as a child was the sent of a new Tonka truck.
Awwwww...love the cat
The die press was awesome. The paint and color was awesome. The tonka sticker that wasn’t straight killed it.
Looks great! Love the parts that you have to remake!
Nice fabrication job. Thanks for sharing.
Como sempre um serviço perfeito. Já estava com saudades dos seus videos COMPLETOS
Had one of these when i was 4 years old , back in the early 70's

WOW chip your back , I almost gave up on you , love your work on bringing these toys back to life. I had a couple of those trucks 60 years ago, even then they didn't look as good as you make them, keep up the good work and I'll keep watching..
Kind of neat to see someone else already repaired it once.
