I'm honestly real glad they put that warning at the beginning. that would be horrifying for a child to see their current obsession fall like that, especially if they know about the puppeteers
I'm so glad to see your comment. That's actually exactly why I put the warning at the beginning. I had a 6 year old comment recently that this video essentially ruined Big Bird and Sesame Street for them and is making them question a lot of stuff on tv. I feel so bad for them. Thank you for making positive of the warning rather than asking why it's there like everyone else. this comment is a refreshing change. Thank you.
"It's beginning to look a lot like Chris-" I love how they just fucking cut the music off and left him sitting quietly in the crowd to nod randomly at people. I'm so done xD!!!
Faith Simpson that's my favorite part of this video. The few seconds after impact when Big Bird is silently sitting on the floor bobbing back and forth, opening and closing his mouth while the kiddies vocalize thier disappointment and confusion into mortified shrieks after having the fantasy yanked right out from under them. I also love the woman who had to ask if there was an accident, as if the extreme cringe taking place in front of her might be all part of the show.
I think it would be a good idea if the performers were to record lines like, "Whoa!" and "Ow!" for when situations like this happen to make it seem less awkward for the children.
1:02, I just love how Big Bird sits there after he fell, and started to chill greeting people and being all like, "Hey, how's it going? You workout?". XD
someone in another comment (I can only presume they know this because they have been in a similar costume) said that it's really hard to see the edge of the stage in the costumes like that one. I'm guessing the person inside just miscalculated where they were on the stage.
I put the warning at the beginning so that the illusion of the characters being real is not ruined for any kids who might come across this video. I did not want parents getting upset and messaging me how I ruined their children because I did not warn them at the beginning of the video. It probably wasn't Caroll Spinney in that costume. Usually for live performances at Sesame Place or the Sesame Street Live shows, they have someone else doing the characters and the dialogue, as seen here, is prerecorded. Had it been Caroll, this definitely would have been much more tragic because of the fact that he is in his 80s. Even so, it would be scary for anyone in that costume.
Joe Weatherford, you are correct, Jayden and KydWyz, that was NOT Carol Spinney in the costume. the person in the costume in the video is fine although from what I understand, he got written up.
Good for the actor in that suit for keeping the head up and staying in character though. it makes it much less terrifying, because I've seen a video of a puppeteers arm giving out in the suit and its super disturbing
Okay yes, I found it. It's from a video called "The Mechanics of Being Big Bird" and its at about 3 minutes in. He's talking about how dangerous to your health using the puppet can be and then they show a clip of the neck collapsing!
@@snarkiwi I've seen that clip and it's not quite what you think. The video of Big Bird with his neck "collapsing" is actually deliberate. Judging by the performance, he's singing "Sing After Me" with a band, and he's doing the "low, low, low" part by sinking lower until he twists his head upside-down as a visual gag. So, no actual harm done. The video is an excerpt from "I Am Big Bird."
Big bird is actually dangerous to control. I hope this dude/girl is ok. They wear a thing called a "Electric Bra" which if you fall on it, it most likely hurts. Not to mention his hand was above his head so falling could of hurt his arm. Not hard though. Hope he/she was ok
so far as I know, the guy in the costume (male) is fine although they got written up. also, this particular costume has a way to see out through the tie rather than the monitor inside.
@@phl6716 i know right? It seems a little extreme to write someone up for something they couldn't control. Maybe it was for "breaking the illusion" or some shit like that.
it was not until much later that I saw how the puppet is operated and when I did I too was impressed that the puppeteer was able to keep the mouth and head alive.
29davjs Exactly! Did you see the UA-cam video about the guy that does it for Seasame Street? It's crazy how he has to watch a little tv and keep his arm up and moving for so long. Not to mention, this guy falls off a stage and STILL keeps it going.
as I've said in several other comment feeds, I still to this day can not believe I am the one that got it on camera. (don't think anyone else in the audience was recording it that night.)
This was Big Birds' final performance before the vet had to put him to sleep. I remember him as a true performer until the very end: Even when he fell off stage he continued singing effortlessly.
The stunned, helpless way Big Bird looks up and quivers after falling reminds me of how a small child would react to falling hard on the ground. Big Bird truly is a sensitive 5 year old covered in feathers.
Actually, this suit does not have a monitor like the one on the TV show. There is a hole in the chest which is covered by the tie that you see on the suit.
Well, yes and no and mate the 'guy' in the suit also has a hard time controlling the character with one of his hands up to the head of big bird and eyes down looking at the monitor and having his right hand moving the wings it's just tough for a old elderly man to operate
We were there ! Near the front right where he fell. We were just reminiscing and I wondered if it was on UA-cam. I think he hurt himself a bit, was defo dazed ... Initially I wanted to laugh, but didn't - is it ok to laugh now ... ?!
Imagine being in the front row, Big Bird comes on stage, he starts singing, dancing, then suddenly there's a 8ft tower of yellow feathers coming straight for you.
Yeah, but I don't think the one used here is the original one they use on Sesame Street. It doesn't look the same, the toes are a little too short and rounded off and the head and neck are pretty stiff, it doesn't have the range on motion that Carol Spinney does on Sesame Street. But yes, still very hard to see anything around you in that sort of a suit. I wonder if this guy was using a TV monitor like Carol uses inside of the real Big Bird costume.
They don’t use TV monitors in Sesame Street Live. A hole is cut through the front of the costume so the performer can see what they’re doing. That’s why Big Bird wears a tie.
LiBenn Creations do you even know how much pain the guy goes through just holding the head up look it up then watch this again and you will see what I mean.

And why shouldn't I? I literally read every comment. Had to remove a few over the years for being inappropriate in one form or another but I do reply to a lot of them
I am so grateful for this video. I piss myself every time. Hearing the adults laugh as soon as this dumb bird falls off the stage is priceless. The natural reaction to scoff at the idiot inside the costume is one that truly brings me into the Christmas spirit.
People have to understand how this puppet, and the similar ones from Sesame Street's affiliates around the world, function: the puppeteer is walking while looking downward all of the time into a portable television set strapped around the waist of the puppeteer. The t.v. set is aimed upwards while the neck forever is bent downwards to view the screen so that the person can see where he or she is going. One arm (usually the right arm) is stuck rigidly upwards as the bird's neck, while the hand operates the bird's beak and non-viewing eyes; the other hand operates as the character's hand and arm. Opposite of the right arm is an empty, non-functioning left arm that is spring-functioned to stick out. Between the two arms is an invisible wire connecting both arms together, with the fulcrum in the center of the chest between the two arms. When the right arm is pulled out, the left dummy arm retracts inward towards the chest, and when the right arm moves towards the chest, the left arm springs out straight to the side. With the manner of the actor's posture in the performance, (s)he easily could have broken an arm or the actor's own neck!
The costume in the video actually does not have the TV monitor inside but instead has a small window for the actor to see out through the tie so while you are correct that the fall could have been bumpy inside the costume, the actor would not have been anywhere close to being seriously injured 🙂 though you do have a point to be made for the Big Bird costumes that do have the monitor inside 🤔
I was there and I remember after a brief time, they re-started the show and it then ran flawlessly through the duration. ShoeniceDeletedVideosX30,
I don't have to imagine, I DID see it in real life. Lol
The absolute death in the face of the costume is so funny that I cried.
10 yrs later it finally made it to my suggestion video

Rest in Peace, Caroll Spinney (1933-2019)
He died from taking a bad step.
@@KennethV2000 Like Imagine this was his death footage.
Nick Samon come on guys, have some respect. Rest in Peace Mr. Spinney
@@thereviewguy06 I grew up with Caroll Spinney. The new Big Bird sounds like he's really hung over from too many tequila shots.
@@NickSamon really?
i'm dying of laughter right now
Freddyroodoo me too 😂😂😂😂😭😭😭
You gotta admire the puppeteer for staying in character and keeping the head moving.
Imagine how the kids would have reacted if BB fell off stage AND his neck suddenly bent over?
LMAO
Even after 8 years, the dude is liking and replying to people's comments. Much respect man.
And why shouldn't I? I literally read every comment. Had to remove a few over the years for being inappropriate in one form or another but I do reply to a lot of them
0:58 You are about to hear the loudest angriest bird you ever heard. (YELLS!)
More appropriate title: "Big bird has too much to drink at Christmas."
he should be in the oven next to the turkey!
Love how he tries to react to the cheering 1:26
It seems like big bird dipped into the eggnog
I am so grateful for this video. I piss myself every time. Hearing the adults laugh as soon as this dumb bird falls off the stage is priceless. The natural reaction to scoff at the idiot inside the costume is one that truly brings me into the Christmas spirit.
It looks like he's having a concussion-like seizure.
I love how the girl in the background says," is this the same show" than 5 seconds big bird falls
It's A Lady.
What a mature audience...If I was there, I would have LMFAO.
It's amazing that he still sings perfectly even after falling and getting a possibility serious injury.
8 years later and this is in my UA-cam recommendations
And the crowd all enjoyed roast bird for dinner in lieu of the cancelled show and they all went home happy.
Time to come back to this video for Christmas time!
I read your comment in bonzi buddy voice 😂👌
Did they eventually continue the show?
No XD
Yeah. the restarted the show (if i remember right) about 15 min later.
No, they did not! They stopped it right there and it was gone for good!!! Hope the show gets cancelled!!
I was there and I remember after a brief time, they re-started the show and it then ran flawlessly through the duration. You are certainly entitled to your opinion about not liking the show and wishing it gone and I will not stop you from having that opinion but as for the show itself that day, it re started a few minutes later.
The silence is oddly disturbing for a moment
Thanks for posting this. I've had a rough day, I needed a laugh.
you're welcome
The deadness in his eyes when he goes down is so hilarious.
Big bird just looks around at the crowd
Hours after getting vaccinated, Big Bird suffers a heart attack and tumbles off the stage.
this was long before Covid.☺
Best sesemi street episode I've ever seen
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Chris…….” 😂🤣
