What a gift Mr. Woodson had . My favorite with him singing lead vocals is “ Soul to Soul”. His phrasing and the different ranges are amazing. And his interviews was so professional and informative. Of course no one could really replace David, but then again, David, Dennis,Ollie all brought their own talented vocals to all of the songs that they sang on . RIP Ollie you was truly a talented man.
Wow! 2 me Ali-Ollie Woodson sang lead on the best Temptations song called Treat Her Like A Lady! He was sooo fine and equally as talented! I still listen 2 Treat Her Like A Lady! Rest n Paradise, Ali-Ollie Woodson. U are so missed.
Thank you, Ollie, for the friendship that we developed. U r truly one of the greatest lead vocalists that I have ever known. I love performing, "Treat Her Like a Lady & Lady Soul." U r truly missed my brother, but your legacy keeps us inspired. I know the Angels in Heaven are harmonizing with you.
Olli is and was the best lead vocalist, he hit notes that aren't even listed on the musical note scale. What was so funny he made it all sound so effortlessly when singing on stage.
I have to agree, but I gotta admit that I was born in 75 so he's the one I got "Treat her Like a Lady" from and that's one of my favorite songs. David Ruffin was a beast too.
Great video I agree with you you can tell by the temptation last hit which was Stay Theo Peoples you could hear Mr Wilson's influence on him I actually thought it was Ali Wilson I must agree yes the smoothness of David and the power of Dennis wrapped up into one most definitely one of their best leads of all time
Treat her like a lady was one that stood out in my mind but when they done ‘Soul to Soul’ especially on Soul Train where Don Cornelius hosted the show. When Don said get me a uniform I ready and then gave sample of lyric soul to soul. The Temptations just laughed.. They never fun of anybody as Don pitch was clearly off.. and then when they lit onto that song and Ollie and Ron go back n forth it makes you want to cry. Melvin reaching down to the bottom of the well on those low notes while Otis and Richard carry the melody. There is nothing better..’I just need someone to talk to’..soul to soul..Then Ollie soars way up in the clouds like he’s preaching a gospel.. Don’t get nobody than that.. January 7. 2023 LB..🎉
What a wonderful experience I had in my life. Meeting Ali Woodson at the Pied Piper Los Angeles, California. I asked the band, Harris & Company to learn, "Treat Her Like a Lady & Lady Soul." They did and one Monday night at the Pied Piper, Ali showed up and we showed out. The more I listened to Ali, the more I learned about becoming not only a singer, but a true entertainer. I remember one night in November in 1990, I took my brother, my sister and sister-in-law to the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas to see the Temptations and Four Tops perform. My Father had just passed away on August 9, 1990. Ali and the Temptations serenaded my big sister that night and she as well as my brother and sister-in-law truly enjoyed themselves. After the show was over with, we went back stage and met Ali and the Temptations. My sister asked the Temptations for a group hugg and the obliged her. She and Ali remained hugged and at this, I expressed his condolences on behalf of himself and the Temptations on the loss of our father. To this day, whenever and wherever I perform, "Treat Her Like a Lady, Lady Soul and A Song for You" are included in my repertoire. Thank you my brother for the legacy of music and love you left her with us. R.I.P.
Ali was somethin' special! Often times singing groups have to replace legends with guys just filling a spot. But, the Temptations have had unbelievable success when it comes to lead singers. I think it's a matter of personal taste who would be the greatest. One of my favorite songs lead by Ali is 'It's A Fine Mess.'
I remember when he came to the Sugar Bar on open mic night back in ny. Valerie & Nick asked him to sing. He got up on that small stage & did the Gap Bands Outstanding. Must I say he had the audience there including myself rocking! He got a standing ovation afterwards along with signing autographs... Nice man! I will always cherish that moment!
I totally agree w u about Ollie, RoDi Baker! I still cry at times when I listen 2 Ollie sing! Special was a song I recently heard him sing lead on w The Temptations and it makes me swoon at his on stage presence, his sensuality while singing it, and his smile and voice range and style he demonstrates while singing! I miss him! If I cud bring Ollie Ali Woodson back I wud! May he continue 2 Rest Easy n the Loving Arms of the Lord Jesus. I saw him n a gospel play n Newark, NJ m his later years. He was gud there 2!
@@sturgemoreland1381 lucky man, most people speak of David ruffin and Dennis Edwards, me personally, woodson had the most soulfoul voice. Am sure it was an everlasting memory for you. His my musical hero. Writing from Zambia
Ms Torsha,if you're a true Ali Ollie Woodson fan. Here's a few tunes you might want to check out by him. My Na Na, Family Reunion, Walk Away From Love, Don't Walk away from Me, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and Touch Me. I Guarantee they will become a playlist for you. Trust me. Enjoy 😉.
His vocals on the song Special (the final Top 10 R&B single the group released), A Fine Mess, Someone and Life is But a Dream are my favorite leads of his.
Well you missed this: In 2002 he recorded a song on a compilation album "Bostick" called "You Need Love', which was released in 2003. I had a chance to meet him at the listening party, as I also had a song on the album. Man, talk about start-struck.
The Temptations have had some wonderful lead singers. David, Eddie, Dennis, & Damon immediately come to mind. However, Woodson was - without a doubt, THE most versatile of them all. I've been a Motown fan since they first started....when I was just a little fellow. David Eddie Dennis Damon....and Paul & Richard, were all teriffic singers....Ali though, was in a different league. Unlike the others though, the Temptations weren't getting those great, 3 minute Motown songs written for them for Ali to lead on. There were a few great ones, but nowhere near the 60's to mid 80's classics. Ali didn't get the pin of a David or an Eddie, but his voice was as pure & beautiful as anyone's, although the script guy put him 3rd behind David & Dennis, & didn't even mention Eddie (just bcuz Eddie sang tenor, didn't take away for his power at all!
I agree the man had vocals. I will put him in this category. David ruffin all time great follow behind him Dennis Edwards .Ali Definitely very talented 🎼 🎵 🎤
For me, Ollie was #1. I worked on the road with Dennis’ group (I was road manager for Scherrie Payne’s SUPREMES for 12 years) and the two groups worked together regularly. Dennis was a lovely gentle giant, but Ollie’s voice and stage presence was unbeatable.
In 1999 Wooson was with Damon Harris, RIchard Street, and three others in the Temptations' Review. You can see them on clips from the 4th of July Celebration on the Capital Lawn if anyone has clips of that.
I love the temptations. But they had so many members was impossible to keep up. The originals with David Ruffin was the best. This is why I enjoyed the four Topps more. Same four legends for since their inception. Up until of course the great Levi Stubbs passed..
Slight Correction: No one, not even Ali-Ollie Woodson, could "replace" Teddy Pendergrass. Teddy was in a class by himself, and I think Ali-Ollie would have been the first to say so. But I can't think of anyone other than Ali-Ollie who would have been a better fit for Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes at that point. But you and I are definitely on the same page in our enthusiasm for Ali-Ollie Woodson. I wasn't aware of him until he joined the the Temptations, but WOW! The first time I heard Treat Her Like A Lady," his traffic-stopping, "Who's THAT?" lead vocal performance mandated that I swing by Tower Records on Sunset Strip to grab a copy of the Temptations "Truly For You" album on my way home.
I must respectfully disagree with you brother. David Ruffin was One of the most incredible singers I've ever heard. He had that gravely voice and then he would go up several octaves With ease. Let's not forget David's footwork and stage presents. Ollie Is a close second With a similar voice but not the same. The temptations with David and Eddie were the best versions of the temptations🔥🎤
Your videos are absolutely fantastic! How in the world do you accumulate all this info and back story knowledge? As far as the greatest lead singers of The Temps... I think Ali is #2, only because he was not an original member. If he had been, I would go so far as to say that Ali was #1. He had FIRE!
Ali-Ollie Woodson was an amazing singer, he was one of my fave lead vocalists during the mid-1980s. Respect and RIP.
He was sososo sosossoo underrated
Ali is my favorite of all the Temptations lead singers. Thanks for doing this video.
That man could sing, The Temptations went through some great singers. Great video 👌
Ali Wilson was the man with a Golden Voice.💯
What a gift Mr. Woodson had . My favorite with him singing lead vocals is “ Soul to Soul”. His phrasing and the different ranges are amazing. And his interviews was so professional and informative. My God I loved that song. And Lady Soul 💖
absolutely. he was to my ears a true tenor but had far beyond the expected gifts for the part.
No one can sing theses days, like the old great ones. Just go back 50 years. Thanks to all of the greats.
I liked Ali Ollie Woodson lead voice over Dennis Edwards. He reminded me so much of David.
He is my favorite singer of all time

BROTHER ALL NOTES ARE ON THE CHARTS!!! FALSETTO 2 Octave. YOUR OPINION
NONE WILL EVER TOUCH DAVID RUFFIN. THAT'S MOTOWN ORIGINAL.
My personal opinion is in agreement with you Mr Smith......Oli was simplt the best.....
Absolutely no doubt about that 👍
I have to agree, but I gotta admit that I was born in 75 so he's the one I got "Treat her Like a Lady" from and that's one of my favorite songs. David Ruffin was a beast too.
He’s the best I’ve ever heard.
Mr. Woodson is literally in my top 5 vocalist his range is amazing
I love Treat Her Like a Lady!!! I remember it from when I was a little girl!

Dennis was a lovely gentle giant, but Ollie’s voice and stage presence was unbeatable.
The Temps performed,Treat Her Like A Lady on a the show Benson I think or on a another black sitcom. I remember this for over 35 years.
My best song by Ollie is with the (Temptations) video live- "Touch Me".
In 1999 Wooson was with Damon Harris, RIchard Street, and three others in the Temptations' Review. You can see them on clips from the 4th of July Celebration on the Capital Lawn if anyone has clips of that.
