    I'm from southwest Detroit, "River Rouge" to be exact. My father knew everything about Motown, and I grew up with the music of those days and I am very grateful for the knowledge he shared. My brothers and I were fortunate enough to meet both David and Eddie Kendricks at the Lindell AC, before a Tigers game. "The Lin" as my dad would refer to it was a well known bar across the street from the old Tiger stadium in Detroit's Cork-town neighborhood, and the walls were covered by hundreds of autographed photos of celebrities, and sports figures, many of them regulars. Both of them were extremely gracious, and my father was like a little kid meeting his all time heroes, and his knowledge blew them away. I still have their autographs to this day. They both passed away a short time after, and my father 8 years ago, so I cherish them. Such a sad day when that bar closed. One of the last surviving monuments in a city that has lost so much 😞 Great video ❤️

      @@freddy8479 I know that some people thought Joe Jackson was a little to hard on his sons. And he probably was in a lot of ways. But he didn't want them to grow up in poverty like he did. And if their singing and performing talents was the only way out of that lifestyle. He had to try and make sure that they because known. And he succeeded in that. Also he was a very sharp businessman. Motown was gonna sign them to a music recording contract. Motown came into the negotiations with their lawyers.. And Joe Jackson had his lawyer. For some reason the Motown lawyers thought Joe Jackson was a pushover and desperate for a contract. Motown thought Joe Jackson was gonna sign the rights of the Jackson Five music over to them. And then all the rights would belong to them.( MOTOWN) They found out that wasn't gonna happen. Contact or no contact he wasn't signing any rights to the Jackson Five music over to anyone. Their music would always belong to the Jackson Five. They got their contact and everyone became rich. They eventually did fire him(THE JACKSON FIVE) . But I think that mostly had to do with the fact that their mother had caught Joe Jackson having an affair with a much younger woman. A woman who he was supporting of course. And I believe either she was pregnant for him or had already had a baby by him. But until his death Michael Jackson still made sure that his mother and his father both were financially taken care of. Michael Jackson was a Jewel of a Human being..

    I saw David and the Temptations in NYC. Copa Cubana night club. It was exciting and first time I had ever been at a night club! And in Manhattan; I was out of my mind ! @johnjamone3970 ...Everyone of the temptin' Temptations sang lead. Poopie, Blue and O. The former was a fantastic lead vocalist. The latter was the one who kept the group together. O's other nickname was "super glue!" I saw the "Classic Five" unit many times at the Apollo Theatre many times. Most of you weren't even born then. Davis Eli Ruffin, Sr. was messing with cocaine shortly before he was fired! The Temps gave Ruff to straighten himself up and fly right, shortly after Dennis Edwards first joined the group. Berry Gordy was also behind this nonsense he also wanted Ruff as the Temptations' sole leader. O said "NO!" The same thing happened with Dennis afterwards and Corn was pushed further into the background. Edward James Kendrick quit the Temps at the end of 1970. Paul Williams was also gone as well. He was suffering from Sickle-Cell Anemia and alcohol abuse. Blue was battling rheumatoid arthritis. I'm in my seventies, now! THE TEMPTATIONS' so-called bio-pic miniseries was mostly fictitious.

    I'm from Mississippi. I have an exciting voice and a sensibility akin to what would have been Mr. Ruffin. Although I come close to capturing some of what Mr. Ruffin does with the song penned by the gifted songwriter, the vocal gifts and his mastery of them are far too impressive.
    I place you next to Mr. Jackson (MJ) as one of the greatest vocalists ever. Of course, Michael was more of an all-around entertainer who had expert control of the vocals he possessed.
    I can't imagine someone having a voice like Mr. Ruffin. He could move effortlessly from one octave to another. Little wonder that he became like Icarus in Greek mythology, the boy who flew too high. He probably thought he was a God, and for many of us, he was. RIP Mr. Ruffin, we miss you and always will.

    David Ruffin was raised by a brutal, cruel father after the death of his mother when he was 10 mo. old. Thus he became a brutal cruel man who abused and abased everyone he came into contact with in his adult life, including himself! He became addicted to hard drugs, such as cocaine, to be able to function "normally", which as we all know, was not normal at all! Such a tormented, talent killed himself with his addictions! RIP, you poor tormented soul!

      @jcjcviews 11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, what you say is true. It also didn't help that the time in which he lived allowed for and supported this "toxic" behavior of men. Nevertheless, it always remains a fact that those who are abused are likely to harm others. I lived through such an event with a woman who destroyed my life. She couldn't help herself, but, in the end, it was the courts, seeking profits, that allowed her and encouraged her to behave as she did. Having others believe they won't be held accountable is never a good idea.

    David Ruffin was gifted, brilliant and humble. He certainly one of kind, no Temptation could come close to David. I hate he go on drugs and it became his downfall, however they forgot to mention how the swam, flew or drove from South America. It always seems to land in the poor neighborhoods.
    I’ve learned one other there is a God, Jesus & Holy Spirt that tells you that you can plan anything. The results are up someone more powerful than all of us together. David shine on❤

      spare the rod did not mean physical abuse, it meant DISCIPLINE, verbal, giving the child direction, not allowing the child to get out of control. God didn't mean go get a tree branch and beat the crap out of your child. SMH.

      @@BeGood4Eva Deuteronomy 21:18-21
      I believe God was talking about physical punishment.
      But like everything else in life people become abusive and go way to far in their discipline.
      I'm not advocating stoning children but discipline was quite physical in those times.

    Just a side note mostly all black entertainers got their foundation of music from church church was something that in those days in that era black people worshiped they praised God seven days a week two a day, this is when people were really renowned in the church they really had faith in and God and Jesus Christ the son of God this is what black people really really really really really really wore it because they knew or they believe that this would shine the light through whatever would happen to them good or bad would be renowned through the Grace of god, music was fundamentally and impact within the black community already but gospel music was on a standard that's what we do so a lot of times if you listen to music from the 40s 50s and 60s you'll always hear some sort of a gospel like sound like Ray Charles did it Little Richard did it a lot of colored musicians did it and it was just a part of really your heritage Church was a part of your heritage and that's just the

    i seen an interview of nedra ruffin sadly before she passed away, she spoke about how she was the last person to talk to her father and she and eddie kendricks said david was sober. she believes david was set up by his younger gf because he had a money belt on him(which was missing when david got to the hospital) and she believes that someone gave him a hot shot to end his life. two weeks before his passing, farrakhan was supposed to meet with david to "help him get out of something". it's even more scarier to me that he was taken away from us on the first of the month. also sad that he and eddie kendricks said they would tell their own stories of the shady things that happened to them in the industry but unfortunately never got a chance to.💔i wish someone would make an ACCURATE film about the tempts! paul, david, and dennis all had suspicious passings may they get justice and rip and nedra🕊 Interview link> ua-cam.com/video/rgDVR1sFckM/v-deo.html
