Nice work! We didn't want to be cold so we operated Indoors as W1YCA (club call in Maine). 73 de KB1ASM.

Yeah we should have had a backup and didn’t. Hopefully next time we will have that corrected. K0ATV already got a new heater. I wish I had a trailer to go get warm in and stay the night but funds don’t allow for that at the moment. I recently did my SOTA for Maine at Mt. Agamenticus and my POTA at Ft. McClary State Historic Site. Very nice. Ham-Solo K0FYR

Glad you guys got out and operated NX0G for WFD. I operated with the Salem Amateur Radio Club (W7SAA) outside of Dallas, Oregon. Used the wall tent and stove and operated 4 Oscar the entire event. Very wet but not as cold as you guys got. Sorry I didn't get you guys in the logs. I did work the PPRAA club on JS8Call. 73 de KN0MAP

Hey Dan, what’s up brother. Yeah we don’t set up JS8call early enough. That was the plan but when we started freezin’ our nards off we had to call it quits. Next year brother. Ham-Solo K0FYR

Congrats to the both of you for braving the cold and only shutting down thru no fault of your own. (Roarin round of applause). Do you know how long the slim Jim j-pole was, and if it was homemade or not? How has the Compactenna been working for you? Thanks for sharing. 73. KC3UEE

Thanks kidbach. The 10m j-pole was Homebrew by K0ATV and was fairly long (upwards of like 25 feet or so. I made one very similar to that for 6m and used an online calculator that worked really well to figure it out. m0ukd.com/calculators/slim-jim-and-j-pole-calculator/ As far as the COMPACtenna that’s on my vehicle it does great and in some cases I hit DMR and analog repeaters sometimes 40 miles away no problem. If you meant the PackTenna EFRW 29’ 9:1 unun that I had connected to my IC-705 it works great and like 30 of the states I’ve done POTA and SOTA in can be attributed to that little antenna. I was talking about the COMPACtenna on your car. Thanks.

@@kidbach yeah it’s been great. I take it off usually when I leave the vehicle at the airport parking lot but it’s generally the only thing I use on the car unless I’m doing some kind of simplex propagation tests in the mountains then I’ll put on the 44” tri-band to see if I get better reception in all the hills and valleys. Overall the COMPACtenna is the only one I have on there. I will say the gasket takes a beating with our cold temperatures and me having to remove it more often due to travel but I just found a thicker gasket at an Ace hardware that goes between the antenna and the NMO mount that won’t get worn out and cut as easily.
