  • In this video, I unbox the new EcoFlow Power Kits system and use it to take my workshop off-gird, allowing me to run my lights, laser cutter and 3D printers overnight using the solar power generated during the day.

    Good to see Ecoflow used a 48V system. Which is safer and uses thinner wires which can definitely save some space.

    What I like about that system is that it is fully customizable. I can set it up just the way I want it.

    Great video! It's always nice to see something that's so obviously well-engineered.

    Nice workshop you have there. Seems like the Power Kit is an exact fit for your power needs.

    Looks so much simpler then other systems :)

    The LFP battery choic got my interest. I can choose between 2kWh or 5kWh batteries to power my setup.

    I'm quite happy that I can also monitor the system using my Ecoflow App.

      Ive found the app useful for remote monitoring as well, it gives me "smart home" control over devices that don't have any smart functionality built in.

    Thanks for the reivew! What happens with the solar power when the battery is 100% charged? Does the hub behave like a regular hybrid invertor then, meaning just by-passing the power to consumer load/outputs? You mentioned that the power from the batteries is used at night, how the scheduling is working? Thnx!

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  10 місяців тому

      Yes when the battery is fully charged then solar power is passed through to the connected load. In the version that I have there is no way to set a charge schedule, I have the mains charging input on a timer on the wall so that it connects to mains late in the afternoon each day and this will top up any shortfall that solar wasn't able to charge during the day.

    Can this system be used with other Li ion batt other then eco flow

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  Рік тому

      You could probably power the system through one of the DC inputs using another brand of battery, but not through the battery ports. This obviously also won't have discharge protection or be able to charge the battery.

    Can you connect a 3rd party 48V battery to the Alternator input cable to topup the PowerKit batteries from the 3rd party battery? :)

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  18 днів тому

      Not directly, you'd need some form of regulator and discharge protection device between the two.

    its to bad most people can't afford these things. not sure about others, but I can't drop 2000 to 3000 + dollars on something something like this, but I would love to have something like this. I hear all these people want people to use renewables, but with prices still so high, like solar system, renewables are way out of reach for allot of people and will be for quite awhile.

      I agree, this is an expensive product, but it's priced quite competatively for their target market. People typically buying RV's or camper vans, or are building offgrid homes in remote areas are usually happy to spend a couple of thousand dollars on a power solution, and this system makes it simple for those who don't have the knowlegde or time to build a system from scratch.

      I agree, hopefully more systems/competitors will be available soon. Then they compete price wise. But batteries itself is the big cost here. I am thinking about this Ecoflow instead of the DIY Victron way.

    Just another paid EcoFlow Advertisement. Noticed it was not tag as an add or sponsor. The more I see of these videos the more I will never purchase an EcoFlow Unit.

    • @ChakaHamilton
      @ChakaHamilton Рік тому

      Agreed, a bunch of creators I follow are doing these eco-flow videos. One or two that's the main focus of their channel, but when I start seeing content creators who are typically makers start selling their soul to make paid advertisements it's cringe. Personally I think if you're asking for patreons you should turn ads off.

    • @1ENDUSER
      @1ENDUSER Рік тому

      So with that statement, that means any type of advertisement you will no longer purchase that brand of item? Isn't that how items are sold? Advertising? Haha. So the phone your using or tablet that you happento see this vide? Did you see it on an advertisement or already knew long before it was out that you were buying it?

    • @ChakaHamilton
      @ChakaHamilton Рік тому

      @@1ENDUSER I want to be entertained and educated by a maker I don't want to be flooded by their paid advertisements. I'm here to watch them teach us some things not to hear about their sponsors. The whole UA-cam algorithm this past couple of years has gotten worse content creators are no longer making good content they're literally selling their souls to be advertisers.

    • @renstillmann

      It doesn't mean it's a bad system though. I am thinking about buying such kit. Haven't made my choice just yet but it is appealing to me for sure.

  • @ChakaHamilton
    @ChakaHamilton Рік тому +1

    I'm a little disappointed every subscription I follow on UA-cam seems to be doing these Eco flow videos. If you've seen one you've seen them all it's a shame I liked your originality of previous videos. I will continue to follow but I'm just a bit disappointed that you jumped on the bandwagon.

    • @RasmusSE
      @RasmusSE Рік тому +1

      Can't really complain to the guy about what you have in your subscriptions, no? Just skip this one if it is boring to you.

    • @ChakaHamilton
      @ChakaHamilton Рік тому

      @@RasmusSE you are correct and I did. It's not a complaint it was how I actually felt, after all these are comment sections. My criticism was constructive and not insulting I hope it didn't come off that way, but it's disappointing to see content creators all doing the same exact thing no originality. Particularly if I was a patreon I'm not paying to see everyone do the exact same thing.
