- In today's story, we'll take a look at modern 2-stroke superbikes. These are simply two-stroke monsters of our day and they have everything, electronics, negligible weight and enormous power. Have a great mood and enjoy watching!

@honestnestanderson yeah, I was referring to the 500s. I totally forgot about the smaller displacements being higher hp per liter than the 500s.

Kinda why they stopped racing them.
They got too fast , the powerbands would snatch your soul from you in the middle of a turn unexpectedly. They were notorious for bucking riders off like a bull. All the greats from the 1980s/90s when interviewed tell of being terrified of the last of the 500cc 2 strokes. They were not forgiving at all.
Valentino Rossi said that 500 cc 2 stroke was a bike that rarely you could put on full power in a race and because of that races wore more interesting and skills of pilot count much more.
Man, if 2 strokes were still in MotoGP today, they prolly will have 400 hp

Check out the Crighton Cr700W. It's a rotary powered 4 stroke superbike but it sounds really good
I'm guessing this is satire, 2T is literally half as efficient as 4T and a powerband as wide as a gnats chuff did not make for easy spirited riding.

For us old guys that got to race in the fantastic 2 stroke era, the Suter MMX500 is what wet dreams are made of.
It's a pity the times we are living in, two strokes had been wrongly targeted for the sake of environmentalism when they account for an absolute insignificant fraction of polluting engines, this is an authentic shame, banning them made even more expensive the few bikes built, the very few small makers that had a chance to build some like the ones portrayed in the video (Ronax and Sutter) give a proper account of it due to an inexistent benefit of the industrial production.
With current technological advancement and building methods, these kind of bikes should or could have a reasonable price similar to current superbikes. This is so sad...
Insignificant fraction is actually an understatement. You would have to use an M.I.T. super-computer to even estimate the carbon footprint of two stroke motorcycles. Its a bad joke. The modern snowmobile two strokes are dominating that sport. Yamaha went to all four strokes years ago and are now pulling out of snowmobiles. Sad.
My rd250 and rd350 are no where near the level of insanity V4 two stroke are able to achieve but watching vids like this definitely makes me want to hop on them and rip around town. Currently rebuilding a KX250 bottom/top end and so tempting to swap it into my 2021 KLX230 lol.

Skidoo and Polaris have some sweet modern 2 stroke engines still in use on the snow, would love to see the newer Polaris 9R properly adapted into a bike

I wish someone would just make a 500cc or 600cc TWO cylinder with a pair of cylinders from a KTM enduro type bike like the KTM 300 XC-W. It'd have so much torque and you wouldnt have to rev to snot out of it all the time to get it to hustle. For the track ya sure 4 cyc is a better choice but for road use id rather have a torquey v-twin. Cheaper to own and rebuild as well and a much simpler bike to engineer. I have a stock RD400 and an a highly tuned RZ350... I always choose the RD400 because of the torque it has down low.. much more a pleasure to ride around town. The rz needs its nuts revved off to get it to go and that gets real old real fast when bombing around town.

That's sorta the point of all the 650cc+ single cylinders motorcycles. But even less maintenance and more torque than a two cylinder.
Although, I'm referring to 4-strokes... Im not very familiar with 2-stroke stuff
@@strandschep5749 wow! thank you for that, I had no idea. What an amazing machine.. it looks like it needs a donor Aprilla which is not something I can get my hands on here in Canada. Otherwise Id probably go for it.. I have the funds and im at the age now where I feel like I need to enjoy my money.
And in the UK F2Motorcycles will sell you a 350 two stroke twin Jawa brand new with expansion boxes developing 27hp.

There was work on a parallel twin DI 2-Stroke based on the RD / RZ 350 engine from Yamaha and bolted up into an Aprilia RS 250 frame. Not sure what happened to that but the Yammi engines with larger cylinders were doing quite well and DI variants were found in Dune Quad Racing back a few years.
Love riding 2 Strokes - the 90's RGV250 was a hoot.👍
I grew up with 2Stk, 125. 175. 200 250. 400 490
500 triple, then the 750. The dirt bikes, 250 and 490 were my fav for moto x, i loved both of the triple kawasaki engines, when the Z came out, whole different ball game. I would give up my rc51 for a 500 2 stroke sport bike. Oh yea.

a 20-30 yr old aprilia 2t RS125 still command 3000 USD without paperwork here in taiwan (ie "track use only" )

Get an RGV250 a bit of tuning, zetronic ecu and a couple of hours on a rolling road and 70 BHp and 129kilo wet = similar power to weight ratio as Bugatti Veron. ;)

As stated else where , kawasaki has a 600 cc Square four two stroke in a road super bike style , with direct injection so it passes modern emissions, 212 hp on test tracks now set for 2026 release and same direct injection two stroke Motorcross KX 550 T , basically the last 2005/6 KX 500 updated motor 92 hp in a KX 450 F frame , i will be the first to buy i can tell you .
I would be happy to see a bike like an RD400. it doesn't have to be 180 hp. I just want a fun street bike. not a track bike. not something with track ergonomics. something really light weight with maybe 80 to 110 hp.

Never ridden a two stroke have you ! This is just the beginnings of new two stroke era , Kawasaki already has prototype V4 600 cc two stroke with direct injection so emissions legal running in bikes on test tracks . It's a road bike and 212 HP set for 2026 release $35 000
