I am surprised at how little Ford manufactures now in Britain considering the volume of product they sell in the UK , you would of thought that because of British loyalty to Ford product that they would respond in kind .
My Dad worked there in the 70's, he'd go down to Erith Pier and catch the Ford Boat across the River. Can you imagine a manufacturer laying on transport for their staff these days? The boat used to come all the way up from Gravesend if I remember correctly.
Well, London Transport kinda does operate transport for their staff though. It just so happens that said transport is open to the general public as well... :)
My mum and dad would shop at Asda Dagenham because we lived in barking. I used to pass by the Ford factory and I would love seeing it. It’s a shame Ford pulled the plug and turned the plant into a block of flats
worked for a haulage firm in London in the 70's and used to deliver stuff to Ford's at good old Dagenham. was a pub close by called the Henry Ford.Had the odd beer in there. Think they were building escorts and cortinas when I was dropping off to them.God knows how many workers there was but it was pretty busy.Even want to Dagenham Dock and saw the big export car crates heading for New Zealand among other places.memories. ..☺☺
The robot on the right at 1:27 totally got stage fright and forgot what to do, so it just awkwardly moved around a bit (just like I do when I'm on camera)
So the real ones were made in Slough, one doesn't count the new ones as real. They are not real because they don't try to decapitate Clarkson when the door is closed. :>(
It's for people on mobile devices with the sound turned off, especially on social media posts, really useful when you watch a video without the entire office knowing!
Geoff was on BBC news this morning for real
Can you send me the link
thanks
Can you send me the link too?

Back in those days an employee was an asset, not a mandatory expenditure.
sleeptyper Well said, same MO for London Transport too

thank you
Who else is glad they're back??
Horray LONDONIST IS BACK!!!
Londonist has returned! Please keep a schedule, I'm a fan of the production.
My mum and dad would shop at Asda Dagenham because we lived in barking. I used to pass by the Ford factory and I would love seeing it. It’s a shame Ford pulled the plug and turned the plant into a block of flats
I thought londonist had closed ........ Good to have you back with interesting snippets of londons history

Truly amazing.
Thank you for getting rid of the subtitles!
I live in Dagenham!!
Isaac Olalokiki Me too!
it says on some bus timetables that there's a once a day service to the factory operated by I think stagecoach
What the song called in the background in this video?
shame how dagenham has just gone downhill but i see a recovery coming
Glad to see video from Londonist again! Yoo-hoo!
my grand dad worked here!
John Doe more like ford escort
How does it look from the outside?
what's the name of the background music?
its terrible isnt it. really takes away from the edit
Now, I didn't know they designed the diesel engines on site. I thought that was in Aachen in Germany.
The robot on the right at 1:27 totally got stage fright and forgot what to do, so it just awkwardly moved around a bit (just like I do when I'm on camera)
lol youre high
i wanna go in their and look at all the fords that they have kept
where's the London least used stations series???
impressive, where do you fit 30k employees in with all those robots? or has the number dwindled somewhat? what is the "living wage" for a robot?
What, no mention of Dudley Moore, Dagenham's own Phallic Thimble?
I work there I’ve been in there few times
I miss the subtitles 😢
Stacey is the most famous thing in Dagenham
will16320 I went to school with her 🤣
So when Geoff leaves Londonist drifts out the way Anglophenia did.
Huh? Geoff left or is going to leave Londonist?
He's not there ate the moment. He's doing All The Stations with Vicki. Have you been watching it? I don't know if he's leaving indefinitely
mmm more on the xr2i..
Just to be a nerd for a moment but weren't GT40s made in Slough, not Dagenham?
Chris Stephens The Road-going GTs and the Mk IV GT40 were/are built in North America but the 60s GT40 Marks I, II, and III were built in Slough.
So the real ones were made in Slough, one doesn't count the new ones as real. They are not real because they don't try to decapitate Clarkson when the door is closed. :>(
So the MkIV GT40 which won the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 1967 12 Hours of Sebring isn't a real GT40? TIL.
No, just copies :>) I cut down my reply to one (very) little witticism because we were getting away from the slough dagenham question.
thanks for getting rid of the subtitles

arfski (boss: who's watching videos) worker urm um not me( boss: I'm standing Wright behind you) (worker oh)
Who wudda thought, high tech manufacturing done in the UK!
tsangpogorge It's the low tech stuff that's gone abroad. Turks are ok to put a van together but seemingly not to be trusted making the engine.
That's how you fit a cam belt.
far easier when the engine block isn't in the car!
Will Geoff be returning?
Rob Williamson he is doing all the stations so can't work for londonist
Of course he will, he's just away at the moment. I'm sure you know about All The Stations
Sam 1 I know, I've seen everyone. I just don't like the editing style in the video or the guy in it.

The choice of music is terrible by the way. it really ruins it.
Making dirty diesels...
