- Well, here is the first music video on my new channel. This video was inspired by Runnin' Eights Big Boy and Challenger music video. However, my version is about the Norfolk and Western Heavy Haulers including the Y6, Y6a including 2156, the Y6b (RIP), and the Class A including the one and only 1218. Special thanks to Runnin' Eight for inspiring me.

I lived in a small town below the Blue Ridge on the N&W for sixteen years, had steam in my veins, those engines and whistles were lullabies as a child and mood music to my ears later. Got a few steam burns but no scars to prove it, the rails were our playground. N&W steam was homemade and unique, special needs, special steeds.
'Zactly! What is it about the tracks that seem to make it a perfec' playground for us kids? We'd stand on the tracks where the Broadway Limited would pass in Philly. It was 10 sets of tracks across ( hence the name 'Broad-way'... not from the New York Broadway) and we'd bet on which track that light in the distance was gonna pass on. Also, traversing those sets of tracks at the last minute with a steam train comin' was a test of a young boy's manhood. Extra points if you drew a whistle.
@@ronaldstokes4841exactly the work I wish I was currently living my child hood in
I'm amazed at the fact that these behemoths were hand forged. No 'puters or lasers in them days. The accuracy alone in all the moving parts as you watch those wheels roll... and still be rollin' over a hundred years later. And how about that plumbing system of tubes and hoses headin' everywhere, each with its own gauge to make sure its goin' jus' right. Each, a majestic piece of engineering and beauty.
Something I just noticed:
Norfolk And Western Class A 1218 last operated in November of 1991. November of 1991 was the same time that the lead singer of Queen Freddie Mercury died.
Just Googled up, freddie Mercury and holy crap you were right
The coincidence, holy moly
A video about steam locomotives AND fat bottomed girls? Doesn't get any better than that!
These and the speedy J Class are the ultimate steam locos! Perfect pairing with Queen’s music!
I think you mean A Class.
@@CNTrainMan5762 no, he means the Y and A class + the J class
@@CNTrainMan5762 Would you do the NYC Hudsons with Schubert Serenade Boston Pops.
I'm wondering why gay guys are singing about fat bottom girls ? 😁😇
Thanks, perfect song for those beautiful "Y"-- MY FAVORITE STEAM ENGINE, PURE POWER, NO NONSENSE, BRUTE STRENGTH IN THOSE HUGH PISTON BYSYPS ,and love that horn!!!
Someone should do an "Infinity War" of all sorts of articulateds. Include both the N&W and UP engines, then also SP AC-9s and Cab Forwards, Rio Grande Mallets, B&O EM-1s, C&O Alleghanies, etc.
Outstanding !
One can only hope that how much of a smashing success the big boys restoration was, that they will restore 1218 back to operating condition.
I Support the same factors 1218 may have missing parts but they can be salvaged if they ended up in a pile list back in the day when she was going to be overhauled or they can be remanufactured. It asked for the lines she could run on she can run on the same lines that 611 was running on when she was an excursion service. And the same applies to 2156.
I like big tenders and I can not lie
Ain’t nothing better than N&W steam hooters!
Btw, Dr. Brian May (guitarist of Queen) is the writer of this song!
Maybe someday 2156 will run again. It was a bit sad watching it simply be towed from from location to another. I can imagine it will take a lot of work since it’s been sitting for so long but cosmetically it looks magnificent.
If they were able to restore UP 4014 they can restore 2156. God does she deserve it after being out of service for almost 70 years
It pains my heart to not see these beautiful iron horses moving under their own power
Just like with Union Pacific Big Boy and Challenger!
A relevant and a appropriate match
Cool. Takes me back.
I appreciate you so much for making this video
I love this song my bow.
amazing
The perfect music for the video
I love it! That's the way to do some locomotive video's especially the steamers! Way to go!
Fantastic video thanks
N & W was the King of Steam Locomotives. They built all of their own steam locomotives in their Roanoke, VA shops. I have the book the last steam railroad in America with all of the N & W steam locomotives, the trains it pulled, pushed the heavy coal drags West of Roanoke. All of the photos were taken by O.Winston Link in the late 1950’s.
I wish these was still moving
I do, too, man. I do, too.
Well done!
I don't know how this got on my recommendations but thank you
Awesome video 👍😎🇺🇸🚂
I am just waiting for DTG to add this to tsw 3 to make this
I actually live in the state of Virginia which is where the Norfolk and western railway was stationed in the 1940s and 50s

THE 1218 WAS BUILT IN ROANOKE VIRGINIA FROM THE GROUND UP JUST LIKE 611 USA 🇺🇸 😎
Yes she was.
@@CNTrainMan5762 USA 🇺🇸 😎
Yep, Roanoke was like Disneyland for railway buffs/steam fans in the old days.
trains be like 🤯
1218 can still have a future in operation because manufacturing the parts may be expensive but it is doable. And there’s only a few or maybe more workshops that could do the job and are equipped but there’s only one that can guarantee it if they were to acquire her or formed a partnership with the museum, even though it is a longshot
Wasn't sure what I was expecting but cool song dude
Thanks man. I appreciate it.
I appreciate it from making this video
@@Oraoraora69 Anytime man.
Cool 😎😎😎😎👍😎👍👍💎💎👑 I love it
do more work its cool👍👍😍😍😎😎👑
Great Video 😊
With thoses big fireboxes the As and Ys were certianly fat bottomed girls
Special request: Could you do a music video of some steam giants N&W #1218, UP #4014, C&O #1309 and Western Maryland Scenic Railroad #734 using Crazy Train?
I might do a music video on the Big Boy and Challenger, but no promises, though.
Sooooo. I wanted to dislike this... But two things stopped me. 1.) N&W Big Steam. and 2.) I am a MASSIVE Queen fan! Dr. Brian May is the reason why I picked up the guitar and continue to play 20 years on. Roger Taylor's drumming is that of steam locomotive like power. WELL DONE!
Its terrific
John Deacons bass drives a great number of their best recordings. Don’t forget Deckie!
@@PRR5406 Oh man! Never could forget Deacy! the backbone of that group! certainly the soft spoken, unsung hero of the group! I really hope he comes out of retirement for at least one song at one show before Queen officially retires.
This song would go great with up 3985
Don't dink so. UP BigBoy can run much faster and if Y6b #2156 was rashed up w him,
the Y6b's smaller dia. driver (see my comment up dare) bearings may burn up as well
as her side rod bearings. The N&W A-Class i dink had the rods all ball bearing'd as their
driver axles so perhaps #1218 can take the UP BB.
Regardless, yes, if these trio UP BB + N&W Y6b + N&W A-Class rashes up, it'll b a fantastic
event in the history of the American steam locomotive. Just have all the engines synch
w the safe cruise speeds.
Oh I wish steam locomotives were still popular and I also wish that someday the old iron horses will return
Awesome
What a Monster!!
Meanwhile, a few other musical numbers as could be imagined for steam railfan videos of this sort :
*"Kashmir" (Led Zeppelin)
*"Remember Then" (The Earls)
*"The Kind of Boy You Can't Forget" (The Raindrops)
*"Bumble Boogie" and "Nut Rocker" (B. Bumble and The Stingers)
*"Book of Love" (The Monotones)
*"Miserlou" (Dick Dale)
Any others?
Bring the 1218 back to service!

best part.
no arguing.
hands down best part.
shut.

0:54: 1950's safety regulations
I wished the YB6's we're back :(
They would have probably the most popular engines, well besides the union Pacific 4014 Big Boy
@@superalpha5560 are you forgetting about a certain green pacific? or do you just mean most popular in america lol
There is technically a possibility of one coming back. #2156 is the only “surviving” Y6 locomotive and she could be converted to a Y6b
Be nice to see them fire it up.
At least 611 is running
I wanna ride on a train like that
Yea
I love that song I love the train
Big n&w
why does that look like a big boy a bit (except the tender) 1:11
Big nw
I like the Y Class (Y6B)
Even though it's a Y6B
They are types of Y6B's like 2194 and 2174 and even 2171 as well
Who needs Norfolk & Western Class A 1218 and Norfolk & Western Class Y 2156 when you got Union Pacific Challenger 3985 and Union Pacific Big Boy 4014.
Definitely not a bicycle race.
are those flat bottom girls wearing tight jeans?
IS that a BIg Boy loco?
Heresy!
@@haroldwilkes6608 I aslk because I am superbly ignorant of train types.
@@starpawsy No problem, I have my own plethora of things I'm ignorant about, starting with women. I have an advantage, am a train buff and especially N&W. Plus it's an East coast/West coast sort of rivalry, ours is bigger/better than theirs kind of thing. So the polite answer is "Fat Bottomed Girls" are not Big Boys although in today's culture, I suppose change is possible.
@@haroldwilkes6608 Thanx for the great reply.
