The Point: Rehabilitation not incarceration Wellington Prison

- In this story we talk to and follow inmates as they prepare, play and celebrate the NSW knockout heath challenge at Wellington gaol, New South Wales, with intention to create awareness of the importance of mental and physical health among Indigenous people and preparing them for life beyond gaol.
One of the key characters in this story is Samuel Hampton who is serving fifteen years in prison for armed robbery. He explains how much the program has helped him and given him hope and a plan for the future.
I'm a bit late to this video because I don't have TV. This documentary proves that rehabilitation is a great tool to help everyone within jail.
Don't get me wrong I have never been to jail.
But one thing I will say is I remember when I was part of the Gungie Origin volunteer group for Wellington, and I loved every second of being part of them.
I remember being at Wellington Jail doing a BBQ there. People there appreciated that and were respectful but more so, the BBQ trailer was made by the inmates there, so it was only right for the inmates to have the first BBQ.
I left the volunteer group after getting work then a second job as well, due to time issues, but I will say this: It was great to help people out, even with the BBQs we completed outside of Woolworths in Wellington from time to time afterwards.
Everyone deserves a second chance. 😊👍

You can't make gaol fun and easy - these events make Gaol tolerable and give you hope
