The REAL Al Swearengen
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Al Swearengen was the notorious owner of Deadwood’s Gem Theatre, a den of sin and vice in the Black Hills boomtown. And make no mistake about it, the real-life Swearengen was much meaner than portrayed on the hit HBO series. #wildwest #cowboy #history

Had to re-upload this episode due to technical difficulties.
I'll have to listen to it again, due to technical difficulties, also, my retention is crap. YEEHAA!
It's much easier to hear the click of the gleet now. Thanks 👍

"God rest the souls of that family...And p*ssy's half price next 15 minutes." One of the best quotes in television history.
Agreed
Just started rewatching deadwood last night and I had forgotten about this line, absolutely had me coughing laughing
@@WildWestExtravaganza "I'm having a digestive crisis, and must focus on suppressing it's expression!" -Eb "Bold" Farnum
After I listened to the original upload it inspired me to retwatch the 3 seasons and movie so thanks for that! Congratulations on the sponsors, well deserved!
Nice
Great series. Terribly short😢
I can’t believe they ran out of money for the show. I still love the dialogue style, it was like a bunch of Shakespeare thespians that were drunk and swore like sailors.
😂 I’m doing the same thing at this very moment! Hearst just arrived in town…
Whoa that's a Strong Opening there Pard.
Dude! Ive got to tell you that I was sent to Billings MT for work, have a couple of days off and headed to Deadwood this morning. 5 hours I listened to Deadwood stuff on UA-cam when this one came up about 20 miles from town. It was cool to be 1/3 way into this video while driving under the Deadwood arch. I had to detox from your videos for a while after binging. I didn't realize I missed your channel until today. Its good to be back!
I'm glad your back!
Just discovered this channel and have been going through it. Love it!
Welcome aboard!
everyone in the deadwood tv series was a swear engine
Ha!
Dude.
Absolutely un-fucking-believable job. So impressive. Can't wait to see what's next for you.
Thanks man
Ian's acting is legendary. It might be the greatest actor's work of all time. Right up there and possibly above Pacino in the Godfather films.
He's up there
@@WildWestExtravaganza Fuckin A
@@whiskeymonk4085 Winston from John Wick is a close secend
Just binged watched the entire series. The best dialog and acting I’ve ever had the privilege to watch. In my book, It jumped to #1. Sadly, I can’t recommend it to most of my aquantences. (Great job btw - you earned my sub)
Another great series is "Justified" the guy who played Bullock in deadwood plays the main character in it (Timothy Olyphlant) or whatever his name is lol damn good show
@@heavymetalredneck7973 my next series to watch AFTER the Deadwood movie 🍿
Nice to hear something like this free-gratis.
Might confuse the Hoople Heads though
First time watching your channel. YT recommended it. The bots might have picked up that I had mentioned Swearengen in an e-mail to somebody recently. I have been to Forest Cemetery in in Okaloosa. I walked lot 21 in a grid pattern and there is no headstone. I verified the location with the Mahaska County Historical Society. I'm glad that you mentioned the incorrect information on the internet about where he is buried and gave the correct location. So many things become lost to history just because of bad information out there.
man his brother did that matrix bullet dodging trick like Leo...
Ha
Love your stuff.
You give the stories a real good feel.
Thanks.
Thank you
Quick question: was his brother a “trout?” (You’ll recall the episode where the preacher has what appeared to be an epileptic-seizure. We find out it’s not epilepsy but Al relates a “tale” about his brother having the “falling sickness” and he would charge money for kids who wanted to see him “flopping.”) Pretty horrific example of Al’s empathy. 😖
I think that was just made up for the show
I love the series or maybe movie quote where Al said about the phone lines that he didn't want a phone in the Gem that it was a place where people didn't want to be found
Ain’t that the truth

Just rewatched Deadwood. Got me wondering if Wu was based on a real life character.
Liked and subscribed 👍
I really enjoyed the Deadwood series myself. Very underrated and should’ve lasted a couple more seasons imo.
I actually stayed a couple nights in Deadwood last October on my way to Yellowstone. I would recommend both. Deadwood is a cool town.
Welcome aboard! I hope to go there one day myself
Love your channel. This is one of my favorite time periods in history. Keep it up 😁😁✌️✌️
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks
Boardwalk Empire equals Deadwood! I loved them both!
Thanks a lot, Josh. As always I love your show and keep up the great work.
Thank YOU!!!
This video was awesome. I'm gonna have to check out whatever else you've made.
Please do!
Nice Intro ❤
Been to Deadwood lots went again this year love it wonderful place
Hope to go one day
Great series way too short, though.
I do agree this is one of the greats!!
@Josh… thanks for making this so fun bro✊
My pleasure!!
I have been to the cities of Custer, Virginia city, and deadwood. I briefly worked with Jerry Bryant, about 2000. He used to live in deadwood.
Very cool
Well Done! Thank You!
Thank you too!
Hell yes. The NAVY saved my life.
I fkn love this channel ❤📚
And it loves you
So many sick quotes in Dead Wood
Agreed
I cant resist. Liked. Subbed. Sopranos is not close my mind, deadwood is clearly the best, the goat, and will likely never be surpassed. Despite the Alzheimer's, long live David milch
Long live David Milch
@@WildWestExtravaganza NYPD was my first taste of Milch. An amazing show, especially the first season. Another good series was Rome. It was cancelled for GoT.
Very telling, the souls that pass each other in history becoming ghosts. The memories they may have had at the end of their lives are their own apparitions. The hay day laughter of the past, the most haunting of it all. What made them laugh? What were their dreams? And was it anything like they imagined, in their last room with a bed and no family near? Their ghosts always linger, history told here and if never forgotten.
I feel that their thoughts, feelings, wonts and tics were no different than ours today.
Minus 21C technology and mentally it’s 1882.
Population control was an issue then but the lucky people didn’t have the WWW and so were far more at liberty than we today.
Dire days approacheth, me thinks.
I love your content, listen often. However I’ve heard you refer in two separate episodes as deadwood/black hills as eastern South Dakota. In fact this is located on the western edge of the state. Just to clarify. Again love your content and will continue to keep enjoying it and spread the word.
Correct, I get directions wrong in my head constantly
Deadwood is an awesome little town. You need to go!
I hope to
Great stuff on A Swear in Gem …
I absolutely love Deadwood!!
Same
Thanks!
Thanks Jeff
The navy are wonderful as they bring the army to places to fight, only kidding it came from a movie i can't remember, great storytelling content again.
Lol definitely don’t go during Sturgis. 😂 the Mount Moriah Cemetery is really fun to visit. Wild Bill, Calamity Jane and Seth Bullock are buried there. Also a beautiful view of Deadwood. It’s a charming town with lots of museums, the brothel museum being my favorite. ❤
Cool as dirt! Just returned from vacation in that area, mighty fine territory around them parts
Right on!
Josh, I watched Old Henry last night and thought of you. Seen it? Oh, how much does it take to get a mention during the sponsor break?
I did, great acting! If you actually want to sponsor an episode you can email me but I can just shout you out for free!
A btk episode would be good if it isn't done yet. Old Henry was great, William antrem Henry McCarty brushy bill roberts
Liquor in the front poker in the back
I agree with you Yellowstone doesn't hold a candle to Deadwood. Its a good show but not even close to Deadwood.
Deadwood is so good
Yellowstone is set in modern times. What makes Deadwood most appealing was its timeframe and cast. Not to mention HBO’s top quality content.
@@al307antony2 absolutely 💯
W.W.E. rocks again
Keeping up until the 1960s place in America saw domestic violence as a private affair like it was kind of none of their business
Josh, I for one find your theory on Al's death, and the previous attempt at killing his brother, most likely right on the money!!! Sad we can never know the truths of somethings!
But i believe its safe to say, no matter how "rich and successful" someone with the morals of Al Swearingen may appear to other around him, his own lousy personality is what lead to his misfortunes and ultimately, his death! I would say its surprising he lasted as long as he did!!! Great video Josh and I Thank you!!!
We watched all of Deadwood waiting for the final episodes that, as far as I know, never came. So it ended up leaving us hanging. BUT it was a GREAT series!!!! Maybe by now (?) HBO finished up with those missing episodes???
The movie kinda wraps it up
There's a movie. Sadly the show's creator has Alzheimers pretty bad but the movie was a nice send off.
@Jason Pelto I'll make sure I watch it thank you Jason!!!
@The Wild West Extravaganza
Thank you too Josh!!! And, I have to apologize to you for I have a bad habit of commenting throughout the video instead of waiting until I've heard it all, probably causing you problems like here, finding you've already commented on a comment that later was added to by the
dumba$$ OP (Me!) I'll try to not do that!
You're good!
Great video… great show… I would put it at #2 also, but it’s definitely a close 2nd to Breaking Bad, not the Sopranos…
I was gonna leave a comment about many blood sucking parasites...however, I read the rules. On that note, I been listening for many Comanche moons. Love the content. Joshua one of my favorite Bible characters. Crap. I didn't intend to bring religion into this. I cannot do anything RIGHT
Ha thanks man
Deadwood! ❤ it!
Thanks!
Josh , you are talking faster than before. Your presentation was better done in a slower way, my friend. 😊
If you fished out of Dutch Harbor in the early 90's you got a taste of the last of the wild west. It was hairy. I got in a nice tuff at the Elbow Room with a strapping crabber. Neither if us came out on top and have some good facial scars to prove it. I wouldn't trade the memories for anything.
“Welcome to fu*kin’ Deadwood”.
It can be combative
@@WildWestExtravaganza an absolute gem of a series 👍
Personally, I think that there was a hit on Al. They didn’t know that he had an identical twin and tried to kill him. When they realized that Al was in Denver, they struck. Making it look like an accident. They must’ve studied his movements and picked the right time when to strike with minimal witnesses. He made so many enemies it’s insane. I doubt people shed tears when they found out Al had died. Some of em probably used that as an excuse to drink to his “memory”. Damn shame about his twin. Surviving a hit to only be murdered by someone who beats defenseless dogs. Bad business.
You mean Hollywood put out something that wasn’t accurate? Who would ever believed they would do something like that…..lol
I like this ai narration. More video makers should use this American ai. It really is a beautiful language when spoken correctly.
lol. Sadly this is my own voice
@@WildWestExtravaganza why sadly?? I figured all directors used ai nowadays so being I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you speak, it's a good thing that that's your actual voice.
I appreciate your videos Sir.
This episode belongs on your future channel-Raunchy West XXXtravaganza. This one was raunch-alicious. 😁
HEY FYI. Just wanted to let you know. The United States Marshall's Musium opens July 1, 2023 in Fort Smith Arkansas. Thought this might be something you might be interested in.
There's a big statue of Bass Reeves on garrison Ave. Judge Parker's court room and the gallows are all there as well.
Oh cool, thanks for the heads up
You're welcome. Funny thing was I was sitting here listening to the Cherokee Bill execution while my wife was watching the news on TV. And the News started talking about the marshals museum opening.
Great biography
Thanks a lot
Another area around the same time era is the show the son, it’s a bummer it was so canceled
Is this a houston podcast? I heard nothing but Houston commercials. If so hello from cypress texas kinda random and weird I found this.
Nah, I don't choose the ads. That's all UA-cam just spying on you
May have to watch deadwood again now.. Check out the movie Old Henry. Anyone into this channel will appreciate it. Dont wanna say too much... Check it out.
The fucking part was ...well. Well put, Sir. Excellent content. It would seem an irrepressible notion to warsh my genitals has quafed over me. I feel like Kit Carson. Well done, sir. Be well.

You sound similar to Kenny powers, which ironically, his brother was the same actor as Sol Star. Lol.
Calamity Jane worked as a dancer for Swearengen and was the one who brought in the women for him from Nebraska.
Deadwood the TV series has her portrayed wrong. She had no hate on for Al, nor did she know Will Bill prior to joining a wagon train he was on.
Jane’s history from herself cannot be trusted and unreliable
What about Hell on Wheels ???
Only seen a couple clips
@@WildWestExtravaganza Excellent series 👍

deadwood and soparanos and the wire. to be fair.

I've never watched it, unfortunately
I highly recommend it

The term Swear word comes from his name.
Do you know if there’s any truth, and George Hearst being such a nasty person?
He was pretty nasty but I don't know that he was as murderous as portrayed.
Wait, wait, this isn’t Wednesday!!😂😂
Had to repost it, technical stuff
Seems like I’ve heard this one before.
Re-uploaded due to technical issues.
ya cant just upload the audio from television commercials, oh and " the twilight zone" was the best tv show ever especially the episodes with Lee Marvin and James Coburn great video though
Audio from television commercials?
@@WildWestExtravaganza just screwin with ya on your sponsorship. It sounded like tv commercials.

Thank you!
A stoopid commercial for the Navy before we get AL Swearengen??
This was just pointed out to me! Deleting it now, that wasn't meant to be added.
@@WildWestExtravaganza thank you! I didn't mean to be rude or blame you -- you've gotten me hooked on your channel & this just suddenly seemed jarring. It wasn't even a good commercial, lol. I'm fine with in-channel ads (I pay extra to avoid YT interrupting my viewing, but I get that you guys need sponsors), but this one seemed egregious. 👍
That was a technical glitch. Navy owes me now haha
love Deadwood of course (despite no mentions of Sam Bass or Reddy Mckimmey) and I dont give a crap about Yellowstone but you should definatley watch the spin-off 1883 every bit as good as Deadwood which as awsome as it is dont recall it every making me cry 1883 certainly did and is in my poinion Sam Elliots best work word of warning though if you watch it hope you dont have an aversion to snot

Dang. Not glamorous
Unfortunately no
How would you know any of what you say you found or didn’t find .. anyone who could be of real value with info is fucking dead. …
Newspaper articles, census records, eyewitness accounts, letters, court records, etc.
These would be great if you didn't talk
Haha i hope your day gets better
The only downside re Deadwood for me, is the ‘c***sucker’term- it’s TOO MUCH!
Question: is there anecdotal proof the word was common amongst working class Yanks in the late 1800’s.
Or was it merely the producers whim?
Lol no. But the show was for us, in modern day times.
Got ya.
Ta from England
1. The wire 2. The sopranos 3. Deadwood
Sons of Anarchy is the best show ever
Annoying amateur "narrator".
Lol
Didn't particularly like all the cuss words in this one. Didn't hit the like button this time.
New sub here, love your channel. But I have to disagree with you in regard to “the best Western ever made”, being Unforgiven. It’s great, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to “Little Big Man” (love me some Faye Dunnaway!), or a film you’ve mentioned in other episodes, “The Outlaw Josey Wales.” Hell, even “Dances With Wolves” was better. But opinions are like A holes, course. Great channel though, brother. And I wish you success in making this full time, and never having to punch a time clock ever again. Keep on, keeping on. 👍🏹🛶⛏💰🧨🎻🦌🎩🗝♠️♥️🏁
