Did you know? Song of the Ancients is the only song in the game series that holds story importance from beginning to end of replicant. You start hearing it sung by Devola at the village well and the acustic guitar with the handdrums give it a folk-ish tune; Devola also tells you about the meaning of this song. Whenever the twins are involved in the story directly it is played - that's why you can hear it in the library (Popola's version). And finally, it also acts as a boss theme and the entire arrangement is sad, moving, touching and showing: Everyone is at stake, neither the Twins nor their enemy can go back anymore. However the outcome, the family they created is going to be much smaller after the encounter. And I want to drop Popolas last words before she lost her senses: "You think you have the luxury to STOP!? You cut down my sister like a goddamn animal and now you wanna stop!? No one stops. It's way too late to stop! No one STOPS!"
The fact that Devola's theme plays after she dies while Popola fights you hits super hard. The song that she spends the entire game serenading Nier and the village with plays as her sister attempts revenge.
