@@yutohatesyou6491 visual doesn't have to be the face of the group. this is the case with (G) I-dle (Shuhua - visual, but Soyeon attracts attention ... and Soojin), aespa (Winter - visual but Karina attracts attention), blackpink (Jisoo - visual but Jennie and Lisa attract attention ).
in some cases, visual is forced just to be. people choose who they want to be the face of the group anyway.

It’s a shame that people automatically assume that visuals are lesser dancing and singing talents. Lower expectations by parents, instructors, group management, peers and even fans can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I’d think it would be deflating to have your professional reputation based largely on a genetic inheritance and/or plastic surgery.

A think fans can also play a big part in this. Sometimes I see “fans” creating fandom wars over which girl group member is the most beautiful. It seems like the conditioning has worked on them. I think us fans should focus more on their skills instead of what they cannot control (beauty).

it's weird that some visuals get treated so differently by the public and their own fandom. yuna for example constantly gets disrepected by her fandom, a lot of them claim that she doesn't deserve the visual position and another member should have it. while the general public in sk loves and praises her for her visuals. midzys also rarely appreciate her and if so they only talk about her looks and never her dancing skills, effort or improvements.
Yeah most of her fancam views and support are definitely from their Korean fanbase since her comments are mostly in Korean compared to the others. Btw it's especially dishearting for young idols to have the pressure of being the visual. It's weird how Yuna got a nose job at the end of last year and not really a lot of people noticed or talked about it. How cruel is a business and society to make a 16 year old (at that time) change her nose? There was absolutely nothing wrong with it but no, some Knetizens had to make comments like "her visuals are fading as she get older" and Yuna talked in a variety show about her not liking her nose and that it looks "like the mount everest". Hello?! Poor girl, debuting with 15 and getting watched and critizised while still growing up. So the whole visual topic is really toxic and unhealthy - if you fit the standards you get called talentless and that you're only here because of your visuals - but if you don't fit in then you get hated on, not being pretty enough to be an idol. Like pick a side??
Even if she "doesn't deserve the visual position", it's rlly frustrating that she still gets so much disrespect although she's a lead rapper and is a strong dancer. People say they think the visual position shouldn't exist in Kpop. But apparently, if an idol seems like a "weak visual", they suddenly suck at their job? The visual position is solely for marketing purposes. And Yuna is doing that just fine as well as being a fundamental member of ITZY.

@@jhiaka9888 Most likely between October - December last year but I think it might only be fillers/injections and not one where you have to go under the knife, I'm not too sure though. The tip of her nose was a bit bulkier, wider and rounder, now her nose tip is more slender and straight. That's why there's also more room now between where her nose ends to where her lips start.

It's such a shame when people only look at the face of someone and idolised them as angels that are there only to look pretty. I've been a reveluv since day 1 and when naughty came out every one was shocked that Irene was such a great dancer, and it made me mad. I've seen this girls suffer so they can be their best artist selves and you notice just now that she is good?? And it happens all the time, they really need to pay more attention to their abilities and their personas instead of their faces

Example: WinWin, he is flexible, good dancer, not the best but he is good, his vocals i don't know.
And that's the problem if SM continue to giving WinWin no lines, not great parts in performances, people will think that he is just there because he is handsome and nothing more.
Companies should showcase idols' talents more.

I never fully understand why idols are criticised for having tan or dark skin. Like, they are (mostly) east or south east asian?? Thats a natural thing for most people and not something to be ashamed of??
Sana of twice is an ideal type. She is only acknowledged for her beauty by knetz ranking her as one of the prettiest idols in the 3rd gen as well as voted as one of the visuals by idols and prettiest female idol by men.
As she only has the position of vocalist, many said she is only there to look pretty. Especially in a group like twice who are deemed by plastic surgeons, knetz,public,media as the prettiest gg in kpop.

I know this opinion will get me a lot of hate but I will voice it anyway.
I really do think that the visual often is the least (musically) talented in a group . I'm not saying that they dont have any talent at all but their role in the group literally IS to look pretty. They dont neccessarily need to have dancing, singing or rapping talents to make a debut. Tbh i often feel like people are extra protective of visuals because they are very aware of the fact that they get shamed for not being as musically talented as others. Therefore they try to find other "talents" in which the visual proveils. I often see this when people say like " In the group the Idol A is the best singer, Idol B the best rapper, Idol C is the best dancer and Idol D (visual) has the best personality/ is the funniest" etc. And while I think that having a funny personality can also be a talent, one has to say that being a musician it is more required to be musically talented than in other fields. Nevertheless looks were, are and will (most times) always be more important than musical talent when it comes to the entertainment industry - expecially in SK. But I think we should be nice to evry idol because they also are hard working .

I totally get your point, I would say that in SK it seems that being an idol is a bit different to being a normal artist as we would view them, as they have more expectations to do well in variety, hosting, vlives etc so the image they present to the world and being funny is really part of their job. Just having singing or dancing talent doesn't seem to be enough to make themselves famous long term. I would say Mamamoo is an example of this, they are incredible singers, but I think they have so many fans because they are hilarious and playful with eachother which makes their interactions really fun to watch.
i see your point but i think that's less often the case than you think, for example in nct 127 taeyong and jaehyun are considered the main visuals and they are one of the main rappers and vocalists respectively, aespa's winter is a literal all-rounder who could be the main vocal in any other group and has strong dancing skills too, also of itzy's yuna and txt's huening kai it really cannot be said that they are the least (musically) talented in the group!

never was a fan of this title, never will. while it's true that 'visual' idols have a lot of pressure, they also have a lot of advantages. many people automatically assume that a conventionally beautiful person is kind, sweet, deserves all the center parts, and 90% of screentime. honestly, it's frustraiting to see 'non-visuals' members being bullied by public for not being pretty enough and dragged for every little mistake. in general fans tend to forgive 'visual' members faster imho.
talent and charisma should be prioritised. also I'd hate it if my favorite group disbanded because one of the members got much more popular that the others...

Let’s admit it that people are often prejudiced against visual member. They’re thought to get privileges due to their good looks and often thought to be less talented than the rest.
When Aespa was about to debut, people thought Winter would be the visual token. How unexpected that she excelled in singing and dancing.

When NCT Lucas scandal started I was shocked by how many people didn't talk about the actual really complex and controversial topic but instead there were just TONS of people saying stuff like: "He never was talented anyway and was only popular because of his looks". While I personally think the accusations are very strange and contradicting and always was a fan of him and will continue to support him, I was shocked to see most comments not talking about the actual accusations, which should be taken seriously, but instead just plainly hating on him as an artist. Which is 1. not fair in the face of this serious and complex topic and absolutely tasteless and 2. also not fair against him, even if the accusations were true. He is good at modeling and good at variety shows and therefore mostly known as a visual. And honestly: these talents are also overlooked by fans and very important for the success of a group, it is a fact that many people discovered NCT because of him. But aside from that: he is a very good dancer and singer and he does work really hard (you can see how much especially his dancing has improved over time!). And he is of my favorite rappers in the K Pop industry. Just listen to "Coffee Break"! So to be against him because of the accusations is absolutely understandable. But he always received a lot of hate based on his good looks and I noticed this hate really accumulated when the scandel broke out which is just sad to me and unfair against any person, aside from not being appropriate for this serious topic.

Being a KPOP idol is really hard. Each position such as Leader, Main Vocal or Visual and Main Dancer. There are definitely things to consider per position. Its a continous battle with the already toxic world of KPOP (Showbusiness in General)
In my opinion Actually I think the visual position is important cause visual is basically beauty appealing to kbs more and is a position important for Marketing a group's image in Korea along with face of the groups. K-pop industry itself is a huge marketing. You guys don't need to hate the position visual. It's not about who is more pretty it's about who is more likeable and has a more marketing value in Korea which is country depending heavily on the beauty industry.

Visual is kind of a useless position, but when you think about it, they get more screentime and help to gain more attention to their group, maybe even attract new fans, because despite how shallow it is, people often judge by looks and it can't be helped. Visual members will have articles written about their good looks (media will get interested in them), new stans will look at them because someone's face is often something we initially pay attention to

I've been waiting for this particular topic to discuss:
Sometimes I feel like the member who holds the Visual position usually gets mistreated/mismanaged by their own company.
For example; Visuals like Jin, Jisoo & Tzuyu usually have lesser screentime in comebacks because usually the Visual should get plenty of screentime in their music videos.
I sometimes wonder if the company purposely mistreat/mismanaged their own Visuals due to fear of outshining their whole group or favoritism by the company. That's just my thoughts.

Krystal and winter both contribute a lot to the color of their group like winter is actually called “the voice of aespa” and krystal represented so many f(x) songs and embodied them with her looks and voice. I think both of them were used their abilities but non fans might just see a pretty face but fans know just how much they bring to the group. An f(x) will feel weird if we don’t get krystal airy and smooth voice and aespa feels empty if there is no winter to balance the higher notes and the yoo youngjin tone making her the ideal SM vocalist ( ideal I mean she sings in a way that is so SM that anyone can easily recognize)
