France in chaos | The News Agents

- Last night the final exit polls of the French election were revealed to a collective stunned gasp.
The far-right RN party of Marine Le Pen - and Jordan Bardella - is in third place.
Macron's centrist grouping is in second place - but the dominant bloc emerging is a collective of radical left parties - with the controversial figurehead of Jean-Luc Melenchon at its helm. Macron's PM has stayed on -for now - as caretaker.
But there is a collective political fog over the shape of France’s next parliament. Has Macron's gamble paid off? Macron will argue he kept fascism at bay - but for how long?
Later, what will Labour's planning changes mean for young people trying to buy houses? Can it work?
And how does the Speaker of the house learn 334 brand new MP's names... by next week?

I live in France and life is continuing as usual. We shall wait until the new government is appointed and then carry on as before. There are always riots in large cities but they will soon die down. Things will be back to normal by the end of the week.
Emily, you hit the nail on the head. This election was supposed to expose the RN before the 2027 election and prevent Le Pen becoming president. If she wins and the RN is in government than heaven help the country.
I lived in Bedarieux for a few years and appreciate where you are coming from, plus ca change...

Election nights on French TV have always been like this. This is not a representation of the current political situation. It is complicated, it is uncertain but certainly less chaotic than 1 month ago... And just like everywhere else, the prospect of seeing a far right political party take power was extremely worrying and the promise of actual chaos.
I'd like to hear more about the infrastructure that should come along with new houses especially if they're planning on changing the planning rules as already it seems that when new developments go up they don't go up with a new GP surgery or primary school despite the number of residences indicating this is needed. Is this going to continue and get worse under this Labour government. Also wards developers still be able to bribe the council and not provide social housing in their new developments
Oh so true regarding canine takeovers!, I found myself sitting under the carport with a cup of tea and a biscuit, because I didn’t want them to see me eating things that they aren’t allowed 🤦🙂
Reupload? Getting some severe deja vu
"Not on my negative equity!"
Unless you stop massive rental companies and serial landlords from absorbing the new stock, house prices and rent will not come down
Are there enough builders to build these houses? I'm talking about carpenters, bricklayers, electricians etc. The quality of building on some new estates is sometimes shoddy to say the least.
Everyone I know who has bought a new build in the last decade have had major problems with their work! Every single one! So much so that I have vowed never to buy a new build house because the way that the builders deal with the problems are just ridiculous. Some of them own up immediately but dilly dally with remedying the situation, some dilly dally in owning up and then proceed to make the problems worse, some I know have had to move out for months so the work can be done etc. The stories I could tell.
The poorest in society need homes. The majority of people who work minimum wage will never ever ever be able to afford to buy and their lives are being made miserable by pushed into private rent where it's common for old houses to be 'converted' into dystopian flats. The country needs to build and remodel on a truly epic scale. We need a replacement of the council housing stock that was sold off as well as a few million more new houses. Also need a cap on rents in the meantime.
I suspect history will show Macron played a finesse, given the cards in his hand.
I like Melenchon.
I fear you have missed the point. (I live in France)
Anything is better than the extreme right
I think it is better you concentrate on the UK
And the French understand
@@danhouse1591 erm. I am French, I live in the UK (23 years). UK political commentary on France is poor. Sorry.
Thanks for providing a constructive explanation of the failings of the News Agents views.
@louisdaillencourt2454 They repeatedly called one politician "hard left" without any examples of policy justifying the label. Lazy commentary rather than political insight.
Emily's house has mice methinks?
Help to buy was demand side which, pushes prices up as you have more money chasing the same amount of houses. Building more houses is supply side.
WHY are you reposting the same interview I saw yesterday on your channel?
I had a simmilar thought about housing pricess. Just look at housing bubble in US 2 decades ago - pricess were rising while more and more houses got built
PfI, under the last Labour government, should be raising alarms with regards to this scheme it was and still is costly and resulted in badly built buildings, etc. Just do a search and see the results.
Not sure if I'm being dumb or if the guest brought on to discuss housing doesn't understand supply and demand in the housing market. The example of Help to Buy not reducing house prices doesn't function as an example as that scheme was the government supporting demand, not increasing supply so has nothing to do with building more houses. Despite her citing otherwise all economists ive seen have agreed that an increase in building houses of any type and price will lead to an overall slowing or reduction of house prices.
Zoot alors!
Thats sorted the housing crisisTurn green belt into grey belt and involve developers.

So he’s hard left, so compares to Corbyn and Sanders? Fantastically hard left.
🤣😂🤣
France may or may not work out a power sharing coalition Government. Many countries have them. UK did not too long ago. So, to be so dramatic as to imply long term chaos is not news. It is "click bait". It's been a few days. Give them a chance.

what an insult to Bernie Sanders! Corbyn/Galloway sounds more like it
Bernie is closer to Corbyn than Starmer's labour - he literally praised Corbyn's re-election.
If Bernie led the Dems he would get slaughtered by the media and you'd hate him too! Please employ some critical thinking before slurping up billionaire-controlled news media propaganda!!!
All hard left apparently.

Listen to the constant deflections by the hosts, whenever Diffley broaches anything resembling cultural breakdown and mass-immigration issues in France. UK centrists couldn't stop talking about antisemitism a few years ago. Now silence. How convenient. How fickle.
Diffley is brilliant! As are all Diffleys.
