- Madison Square Garden has been the site of many iconic Elton gigs, including this “One Night Only” concert - his 51st consecutive sold out performance at the venue. In front of a rapt New York City crowd on October 21, 2000, Elton and the band performed the first single from his 1974 album ‘Caribou’, a song on which Elton struggled recording the lead vocal and would have been left on the cutting room floor had it not been for the encouragement of drummer Nigel Olsson (keen observers will note Elton admiring Nigel’s iconic drum fill at 4:25, this being the original and current drummer’s return to the band after a 16 year absence) and producer Gus Dudgeon: “I kept saying, ‘It’s a great song. Stick with it. Stick with it!’”.

Saw him at the forum and Wow.
1st time saw him at forum I was 16yrs old and now 60 yrs old.
Brought such happiness to my soul.

I'm 27 years old, this music is from way 'before' me, but it's unmistakably stunning. I was lucky enough to see this gentleman on his farewell tour a couple of years ago, and it was magnificent, glad to have witnessed it while I still had the chance!

I’m so grateful I had the chance to see Elton play his first farewell show at MSG. I was at the edge of the stage for the last half hour of the show, starting with this song. It was absolutely amazing.

The camera man couldn’t locate the backup singers to give them ten seconds of screen time??? Jeez! It’s just always nice to see all the musicians during a video even for a few seconds. Whenever I attend a live performance I look at everything and everyone on the stage so I can have that visual etched in my mind.

@Mike Yarboro Yes, of course, my mistake. I've always loved both 70s and 80s music. I'm not sure why I've always thought "Don't let the sun go down on me" was an 80s song. I guess it's because it was the decade when I listened to alot of Elton John's music. Some of his songs I've known all along were 70s songs such as "Crocodile Rock", "Bennie and the jets", and "Honky Cat", but others I've mistakened as 80s, or have just subconsciously thought have sounded more likr 80s style hits such as "I guess that's why they call it the blues", "Rocketman", "Goodbye yellowbrick road", and "Don't let the sun go down on me".
Either way, I've always loved them all. They just don't make music the way they once did

I saw Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour in Columbus, OH!!! He is amazing and I'm so happy I got to actually see him perform live!! I will always love him, his voice, his music and his contribution to the world!!❤
Deedrah Simmons I live in Columbus, OH too and I was at that concert it was my very first time ever seeing him and it was one of the best concerts I've every been to. He's been on my bucket list to see for a long time.I've have been and always will be a huge fan of Elton John. I'm so glad that I can now cross that off of my list. He's coming back next year in April 2022 and I will for sure if he doesn't sell out be going to see him again.
