Everything about this song and video makes me wish I could go back to the early 90s, a seemingly kinder, gentler, and simpler time. This was one of my favorite songs on the radio when I started routinely recording tapes off the radio in the Fall of 1991 when I was little. I love the simple, positive, uplifting country songs from the 80s and early 90s such as this one, "Heroes" by Paul Overstreet, "Walk On Faith" by" Mike Reid, "Your Love Is A Miracle" by Mark Chesnutt, "You Don't Count The Cost" by Billy Dean, "Keep It Between The Lines" by Ricky Van Shelton, etc.
I like the more uplifting songs too. But the 1990' s wasn't a 'simpler time'. I wasn't my 50' s in the 1990's and I can guarantee it wasnt simpler then. It was just different. I am 79, still working, and various eras have never been :" Simpler". The isolatioist sentiment we are returning g to, gave rise to Hitler after WWI and allowed him to murder 12 million civilians. If you are the least religious...we are our brothers keeper. RUSSIA IS NOW ANNEXING NEIFHBORING COUNTRIES JUST LIKE Hitler Did. Get ready for WWIII. History always repeats itself bec ppl don't pay attention. Napoleon lost his empire beaches invaded Russia --' a very vast country with very bad weather. So Hitler list his empire by thi king it eas a good idea to invade Russia--' with troops that didn't even have cold weather gear. Despots never learn. Trump will not be able to annex the Panama Canal and Greenland is not for sale. No matter how much he pretends to want it.( Greenland is not essential to our security, it has rare natural resources that Trumps backers covet,) As soon as Trump started slathering about coveting Greenland, the Danish government immediately beefed up the Greenland defenses. Way to treat your allies. These are all things he has said in public. Thank God i am old.
For all my complaints , you do have a point about morality. In the. You could never grave been eleTed President with 34 felony convictions ictions....and moe indictment in the pupeline. Small potatoes compare to 34 felony convictions....plus Trump inciting a riot that killed5 ppl at the Capitol Building.Mqostly police.
This was the song my husband and I used almost 5 years ago when we lit our unity candle. I am three years into my bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies. This song reminds me of faith when things get hard. I trust in God with everything in me. Our theme was fishing.
man this song take me back whatever happened to this kind of music man those were the days whatever happened to those good old days this is when Time was real and people too my childhood coming back to me
A father is a father, a child is a child. Race has nothing to do with it. Race is by and large mostly man made and is the bane of humanity as a whole. A person is a person, regardless of skin color.
BdOh.............. I am the person that played the father in this video and I applaud you for noticing that the person that has commented on this below has no understanding of the disconnect and divide from country music community and the African American community and to I went to a concert by Alabama and I went to a concert by Kansas and I was the only black person there are thousands of people tens of thousands of people to be exact .Another thing is that if you read about some of the legendary people that were the foundation of country music whether it was Charlie Rich who learned to play Blues from an old black man that worked on his farm or Hank Williams Senior ( not Jr) who would jam with black musicians... .. some of the foundations of some facets of country music were born out of Blues and not always out of the Confederate flag as you see in so many country entertainers. Though this country has been up and running for a couple of hundred years , a hockey game does not look the same as a NBA basketball game and the finals in the hundred meters of swimming looks completely different from the finals in the hundred meters of sprinting track in the Olympic Games. For people that go out on a limb to change these things you have to give them credit and you can't let people voice their opinions and feelings about something that happened 25 years ago where people thought differently..... I was in church on New Year's Eve as 1990 turned into 1991 and I had a thought that I was going to be in a music video and that it was going to go number one even though I had never done any type of acting or modeling. I was cleaning a lady's car whose husband Mike Arnold worked for Scene 3 the company that was doing the taping of the video and they were looking for someone to play the father of this little girl and were having trouble , so I went down unshaven , smelling and looking like someone who had been working in the hot sun all day and and I sang the nursery rhyme "Old King Cole was a Merry Old Soul" ........and they picked me for the video! At the time I was also participating and disabled track and field and though I have a club foot I was in pretty good shape and was able to run up and down that street 40 or 50 times. I always wondered how one scene of a movie could take all day to do and I sure found out first-hand what happens because what you saw for just a few seconds took all day to do and was exhausting. Another interesting piece of information from the video is that the little girl in the video was a descendant of Muddy Waters the same as blues player. I never got the chance to meet Lionel Cartwright but I still think him for the opportunity to be a part of a number one chart-topping song and country music and I have heard nothing but amazing things about his impact on the community of Nashville Tennessee and his inspiration to other people of Christian faith. My name is Bruce White and I am a struggling musician if you enjoy piano music you can check out my music at Brother Hermano Music on Facebook.
One of my all-time favorite songs. The message from this song is very uplifting and gives much hope that true love, loyalty, and companionship in members of the opposite sex really do exist in the world.
Thanks for posting this! I recently was in Nashville and went to a church service at Hope Park Church and darn near fell out of my chair when Lionel walks up on stage and sings this song!! I was in tears... so beautiful. I had no idea he was a Worship Pastor there. Talk about Faith! Mr. Cartwright is truly a beautiful human being.
I grew up listening to Lionel and as I got older I tracked down a bunch of his music. No regrets! This song is my favorite he’s done. It’s still stuck with me since I was about 8 years old.
I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it around 1990.....Lionel was in the same crop of artists as Garth Brooks. For some reason, he faded away, but to me is much better than Garth. I love this song! It is so positive and uplifting and carries such an important message. Lionel's Christian faith comes through without clubbing you over the head.
I like the nostalgic feel of this video! I first heard this song last Saturday night, September 7, 2019 on Sirius XM Prime Country with my aunt and brother heading home from Cracker Barrel where we went for dinner.
One of the Most Beautiful Country Songs EVER!!!🥂 Lionel Cartwright for Ever!!!🔆💯✔️🎈🕺 Love this ditty to this day and it's more than 20 yrs since I first heard it.🌸
I subscribe to a magazine called Worship Leader. With each issue comes a sampler CD of Christian music, mostly newer stuff. There was a song on the October 2011 CD by a guy named Andy Kirk. But I noticed that the co-writer was Lionel Cartwright. Could be a coincidence, I thought. After all, I haven't heard from him for 20 years, and it's not *that* unusual of a name. But I did some research, and sure enough, it's the same guy. Good for him!
This song has stuck with me and gave me hope that love that’s true will always find a way and teaches you many things along the way!! June 26, 2021 I got married to a man I had met 3 years before, and didn’t talk to him or see him again until April 2020! I couldn’t have asked for a better man in my life!! This song is just all that much better all these years later!
I took my leap of faith with my second partner Kelly and she's awesome. No matter how bad my day at work goes she always makes it worth while when I get home
Country needs Lionel and singers like him to start recording again and take this truck off the road it's on before it's too late and you have a hard time telling country from pop and hip hop and the rest of that short-lived garbage.
One of my favorite songs... I haven't heard in a long time untill i looked it up on You Tube.... Thank you You tube, and thank you whoever uploaded this video.

They don’t make them like this anymore. Lionel is so handsome his message is one of goodness and kindness. Really incredible video too
Lionel was before his time putting an African American father daughter in a video. Well done sir.
BdOh I agree with you, what an awesome video thats the way America should be instead of all this violence
BdOh Before his time? There were many with them before this.

I can't believe it's been 20 years since this song came out. My how time flies. I wish I could do about half of it over again.

I haven't heard this song in years
I have this on a vinyl record
Met him in Nashville.
YES I AGREE %100
I was shocked when he just dropped out of sight not long after this song was a big hit. Why? What happened to his brilliant but short career?
I remember hearing the song in 91 "Leap Of Faith" is the name of the song. What Happened 2 Lionel?
this is my dream
Is this singer related to Cory Fieldman? Wow 🌟
Suzette Richardson Who

[Verse 1]
You want a no-risk guarantee before you take a chance
You wanna know how the song will end before you start to dance
Well I can't foretell the future, but my heart clearly sees
Your hand in mine for a long, long time if you could just believe
[Chorus]
And take a leap of faith, cast away your doubt
Darling come what may, we can work it out
A love that's real will always find a way
If you'll trust in me like I trust in you
There's no rain or fire that we can't go through
The first step's always the hardest one to take
It's a leap of faith
[Verse 2]
I understand all your doubts and fears of laying your heart on the line
But aren't you afraid of just throwing away a love like yours and mine
I know your heart's been broken, you've been let down before
Though the stakes are high, give it one more try, this time you can be sure
[Chorus]
Take a leap of faith, cast away your doubt
Darling come what may, we can work it out
A love that's real will always find a way
If you'll trust in me like I trust in you
There's no rain or fire that we can't go through
The first step's always the hardest one to take
It's a leap of faith
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
If you'll trust in me like I trust in you
There's no rain or fire that we can't go through
The first step's always the hardest one to take
It's a leap of faith
