One of the best bands ever. Their catalog is huge
and you edited it?
@@Bertie22222 added catalog statement.
@johnthompson3522 look at your comment lol.
An edited version of an edited version. We got there in the end.
I agree. I've had the pleasure of seeing them in concert several times. They always put on a great show. Dave Gahan is an excellent showman and lead singer for the band. And Martin Gore is a talented singer and songwriter. They never disappoint.I got to see them perform at the Rosebowl in Pasadena in 1988.It was such a great show and experience. Thomas Dolby and OMD was also in the line-up. I was pleasantly surprised at the energetic performance that OMD put on. Andy Fletcher was still alive and Alan Wilder was still with the band.
"People are People" is a fantastic track of theirs, and, probably even more relevant today than it was 40 years ago.
Nah, I was there, the NF skinheads and soccer hooligans were beating people in the streets.
Being gay was so stigmatized that both George Michael and Elton John had to date (and marry) women to pretend they were straight.
I grew up on these guys..first albums i bought were "a broken frame" and "construction time again" both on vinyl then when cd,s came out i went on a DM journey again in a big way !
“People Are People” changed my life. 💜💜💜
bingo!!!
Nah, that would be „New dress“:
You can't change the world
But you can change the facts
And when you change the facts
You change points of view
If you change points of view
You may change a vote
And when you change a vote
You may change the world
This number is still huge among us fans. Timeless and amazing
Live version of this from Berlin is INCREDIBLE!! Wait til you see the “crowd control”.
YES! Berlin 2013 live version of this song WITH THE VIDEO MAXIMIZED
One of my favorite bands. They are excellent live.
I agree.....saw them live in 1987
I've adored DM for 36 years now. They don't have a bad song ❤
except "What's Your Name?" from their first album.
You pronounced it correctly. And Depeche Mode is one of my favorites. Try 'People Are People' and 'Personal Jesus'.
Violator was the album of my senior year in high school. These guys are absolutely magical in concert. Still going strong in their 60s.
I still consider Violator the best album I’ve ever bought
Freshman year here! I was coming more from the metal side of things and moved to a city that had a much more diverse population and kept seeing people with Depeche Mode shirts on and didn't know who they were. It wasn't until the mid-90's that I really fell in love with the band!
I saw them in SLC during their World Violation tour and again a couple years later for the Faith and Devotion tour. Absolutely amazing shows.
This would've been my freshman year 🤘🏼
Back in the day we called this type of music New Wave and Depeche Mode are great...this is off the album Violator 1990 but yes they were an 80's band for sure. You should definitely listen to some of their earlier music like People are People
Back in the day, we called them alternative
Know you’re from the 80’s when you know what new wave is 😂
@@jenniferclark8051, it was originally referred to as new wave, but then gradually warped into calling that type of music as alternative.😊
It was technically an 80s song. That‘s why it sounds typical 80s
"Da Pesh" is how you say it , 80s British band. Depeche Mode is an English band. They formed in Basildon, Essex in 1980. The band's name was taken from French fashion magazine, Dépêche mode, which means "fashion update" or "fashion news dispatch".
"Never let me down again", "Just can´t get enough" peace of art
R.I.P. Fletch!
about time you reacted to DM. Cudos. They are such a great band. Even "The Man in Black" have covered them. PERSONAL JESUS.
Love personal Jesus total vibe
So glad you've found Depeche Mode! Check out "Personal Jesus"!
Their acoustic version of Personal Jesus is absolute fire as are many of their remixes
This is a great band. Rammstein was inspired by the music of Depeche Mode. They covered the song STRIPPED by Depeche Mode. Rammstein were asked to contribute a song to the tribute album “For The Masses” and could choose any song. Depeche Mode actually liked Rammstein's cover version. Both versions are great, as are the music videos of course.
Facts
Chester and Mike from Linkin Park were giant fans of them too. Mike made a remix of this song I believe!
My favorite band by far. They’ve been working it for over 40 years now and have never been a disappointment. Love, Depeche Mode.
Loved their one Personal Jesus...one of my favs by this band🔥
Depeche Mode is one of the most influential bands over the past 40 years. They have actually been covered by more bands than any other band. I have been listening to them since I was in Jr. High school. Waaaaay back in the Mid 80's. (Yes, I am an old fart). Was a DJ in the 80's & they were my more requested band. A hidden gem from this band (they have many), but one of my favorites - so you can truly see just how diverse this band is - The song "HALO,' from this same album - Which by the way - when they toured - it became the #1 gross selling tour of all time at the time & the album Violator took over Michal Jackso's Thriller album as best-selling of all time. React to "HALO." I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
I agree. I love "Halo". It's my favorite song off the album.
This is pretty obscure Enjoy The SIlence cover, you probably never heard it ua-cam.com/video/w9UJcLnlZU0/v-deo.html
@DanyelleStewart Absolutely love Dépêche Mode! Even at 70 years old, they are one of my top bands and own most of their music. Always on my playlists. However, they have definitely been covered a lot ( 836+), but well under The Beatles at 11,843. They are high on the list at #23❤️❤️❤️
@@leannmiller7153 sorry - meant to say covered more than any other synth pop band - One of the pioneers for synth pop.
@@DanyelleStewart no apology needed! I was just adding info. Sorry if I came across critical😎
He’s saying to literally enjoy the silence in a relationship because the words are unnecessary. The connection is what it’s about. It’s spiritual. People talk too damn much.
This song made me love Alternative when i was 12 yrs old. This was it for me. Love Depeche Mode always.... The National , Bravery, Interpol... all similar. Love the deep voices.
So many good tunes from Depeche - take a little journey - they have a live album 101 from earlier years recorded in Pasadena. Violator is a later album; one of the best Albums of all time
You should listen to some more of their music great band timeless
This song is absolutely brilliant live still!! Amazing band! R.I.P. Fletch ❤️
The live version from Barcelona is incredible!🤯
I’ve seen them 4 times , last one just this last November and they are even better live!
Berlin was among
They truly started a musical genre, and we were all more than ready for it!
depeche mode is a 'direct' french translation of 'fast fashion'
Quite simply Depeche Mode are amazing! Definately listen to more of them! I won't tell you what album or song cause pretty much everything they have done is amazing in one way or another!
Reminds me of my senior year of high school. Their music is among the best ever.
This is my fav band of all time... Their name means "fashion news" or "fasion dispatch" pulled from a French magazine with this name. They started in 77 & the name was because the singer was working as a window display artist at a clothing store.. He was using this magazine to design his displays which he looked at as art pieces in a sense.. They split early with Vince Clark who went on to form other famous & huge bands..I grew up as a 90's alternative/metal guy so this being my fav says a lot. lol. Check out their catalog. They have a 50+ year career, pioneered recording techniques, music video production, etc.. They are genre benders, have lyrics that are phenomenal & extremely deep as well as fun hits.. They have 2 singers Martin & David...with David being one of the best front men of all time & Martin being one of the best songwriters ever... They are both industry loved & respected for this as well as adored by fans. They are musical chameleons & if you follow their musical journey, they have influenced so many bands in so many genre's that it's mind melting. They are one of the few bands you will find every walk of life, every age group, every type of person you could think of at their show....all coming together for the love of the music. If only real life society was as loving as the crowd at a Depeche Mode show... :)
You can hear the transition from the 80's to the 90's in this track
Your Proclaimers impression was spot on! 😆 I love everything 80s!!! ❤️
These guys sold over a 100 million albums worldwide. They are huge and still going strong. David Gahan the lead singer is an absolute beast on stage. They're from England and the name is from the fashion industry meaning fast or quick fashion. In other words it's ever evolving and changing. Depeche loosely means fast in French. it's an appropriate name because their sound is constantly evolving. They are trend setters for sure.
Why is it I can remember ALL the words & jam along but I can’t remember where I left my keys or what I did yesterday?!😂 This is such a banger, even today!!! I seek solace here with my fellow Gen X’s!!! 👍
I love Depeche Mode! I grow up listening to them since 5th grade 1983
Depeche Mode. Off their 1990 Album "Violator" which is one of the best albums ever. Very influential
If you recognize this as british (and you're right it is!) it's because it's part of the bigger genre of New Wave that includes Bowie, The Cure, Siouxsie,... Not all new wave bands are brits of course but it's originally a British movement. Depeche mode was and IS HUGE.
Recorded 1989, big in 1990 a pinnacle of DM's career. UK Basildon a live fave when they play a gig. came with many remixes.
Definitely check out their song " People Are People"! It's a bop as well!
‘Personal Jesus”
One of the nest bands of the 80s and early 90s. Keep em coming.
Depeche Mode's "Blasphemous Rumors" was so important to me as a troubled teen. I struggled between my mental health issues and my faith, and felt badly. That song helped me learn I wasn't alone.
Excellent band ..😊👍🇬🇧
Great that a rapper can appreciate electronic music.
Love Depeche Mode... There is beauty in simplicity of their lyrics and not being over the top is a signature trait.....
Group request..... You need to react to " Men at Work" start with song 'Who can it be now' and the song 'Down Under' catchy song especially since they are 80's Australian band.
They always have a great beat and catchy songs. They are a great band.
"This must've been big"
Bro.
426 Mio Views.
This song was in every arcade and skating rink. 1990
It gives me everytime goosebumps when the phrase comes: _Enjoy the silence_
Managed to see them live in London 2 months ago. All their gigs are sold out and it was my 3rd attempt to get tickets as they are still very popular in 2024. As many people are saying, watch the live performance in Berlin - Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (Live in Berlin)
Johnny cash covered a track of theirs . Personal Jesus. Btw the track was out in 1990
Enjoy the Silence is a Lullaby. Martin wrote it as a woman who gets pregnant and has to get married. Vows are spoken to be broken. They don't get along, and him being a Player, leaves the picture. She has a Daughter, and is singing to her while in her arms. Feelings are intense, words are trivial. Pleasure remains, so does the pain. words are meaningless and forgettable. Now she has a baby daughter who will love her.
Pronounced Depesh mode English band. Also check out Level 42 another British band.
The absolute peak of the New Wave movement, along with New Order. "Personal Jesus" and "Never Let Me Down Again" are also absolute bangers.
The whole album is a classic!
one of their best!
This song is one of my childhood icons
They are still at it, wrapping up a year-long tour next month. This song is a trip in person. The entire arena sings along, encouraged by the band.
Depeche Mode was part of the "New Wave" movement of the 80s
DM is one of the biggest bands in the world. They are awesome. They did play this song at the club; those were good times.
These are the ones that STARTED the "electro style",
Best from Germany
They were my first concert I went to when I was fourteen. They were amazing! Still love them ❤
You're most likely gonna love their song Personal Jesus.
80s synth - yessir, that's an ARP-2600 (1971). Prob using it for almost all the instrumentation - Behringer makes copies of that and its little brother the Oddysey that don't cost like $4,000 a piece. Just spotted one for 13K.
ARP = Alan R. Pearlman, not "arpeggiator" or something
dude you MUST put headphones on. This song is AMAZING on headphones. You're not getting the full effect. Most reactors do it. you should to.
Spring break of my junior year in high school. That song was banging!
Depeche Mode's "Violator" and Tool's "Lateralus" are the 2 best albums ever created.
I'm running a monologue from _Pulp Fiction " in my head....
"English Do You Speak It"!!???
My favorite "band" from the 80's
they are not just an 80ies synthie-band, the pretty much invented that shit.
SAW THEM AT THE L. A. FORUM DEC. 12, 2023 AND IN ITALY WITH WIFE AND SON WHILE ON A 3 WEEK VACATION.. THERE WHOLE WORLD TOUR WAS SOLD OUT , AT BOTH SHOWS THEY ENDED WITH THIS SONG.. 1ST TIME I EVER SAW THEM WAS IN 80'S WHEN THEY SOLDOUT THE COLISEUM..AMAZING HOW A LITTLE OVER 40 YEARS LATER THEY ARE STILL SELLING OUT ARENAS AND STADIUMS IN BARCELONA THERE WERE 93,000 IN ATTENDANCE..... THE BAND IS AMAZING, AND THERE SONGS HAVE HELPED MANY PEOPLE GET THRU DIFFICULT TIMES...... ITS UNFORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE TO HEAR THIS CLOWN PUT DOWN GREAT ARTISTS AND TALENTED BAND'S....
Just Depeche Mode...with 2 syllables on Depeche... They got their name from the mistranslation of the name of French fashion magazine Dépêche Mode. They are pretty much the kings of synthetic pop and have very loyal fans who grew up with their songs. This is from their Violator Album which is probably their most commercially successful album and the height of their maturing as a band, but they've always done their own thing and were very big in the 80's club scene. You've probably heard a lot of their other songs and not realized it was them. People are People, Just Can't Get Enough, Personal Jesus... I've seen them live 5 times and this is one of those songs where the entire crowd sings along.
You got the pronunciation bang on 😉 definitely do more from this album, loads of bangers
Glad you enjoyed it bro. Yeah your instincts for how it’s pronounced was correct.
These guys still tour and play live. In their 60’s and are amazing live, really, check some live performances. 🙏🏻
One of the greatest techno/synth pop/goth style bands of the 80's but they peaked in popularity with their 1990 release of the album VIOLATOR, which has this song on it and also one of their biggest hist - "Personal Jesus" & "Policy of Truth". "Personal Jesus is a banger! But this band has a catalog that is huge - "People are People", "Blasphemous Rumours", "Never Let Me Down Again", "Everything Counts", "Strange Love", "Shake the Disease" and more. Keep going down this rabbit hole.
South Africa here...and they still bang in our nightclubs and radio stations... even bigger in the clubs and radio stations that play majority RnB...
Dehpesh - you’re right.
Vince Clarke was an original member went on to form Yazoo and then Erasure.
Cool reaction.
Love them since day one i discovered them ❤
One of my favorite groups, glad you got to them. Dave Gahan one of the best front man/ lead singers
I’ve been in love with this song since it came out, when I was around 12 or so. It’s been my favorite song of all time ever since then. I became a diehard DM fan then and there.
The genius of this song is largely due to Alan Wilder, who had the vision of turning it from an acoustic ballad into what you see here.
People are people is a must❤
I will see them next Monday in Cologne at the 113th and last concert of their current world tour. Can hardly wait... Violator is without question one of the best and most influential albums of all time.
You should watch the live version of this song. They are absolutely great live! I’ll be at their concert in Milan this evening 😊 They have lots of beautiful songs and hits. Maybe the next one could be Never let me down again (also in this case in both versions)
Just saw them in nov. They are still rockin
Thanks for checking out one of my favorite bands from my teenage years. The first song of theirs I ever heard was People Are People, which is a fantastic track posing the question why people hate other people before they even know them. Check it out sometime I think you’ll like it.
Love Depeche Mode. This album (Violator) is fire 🔥. My favorite song of theirs is “I Want It All.” Your pronunciation is correct. Their song “Somebody” was my first song with my husband at our wedding. They started making music in the 80’s but made it really big in early 90’s. And they are amazing live in concert!
As far as electronic synth this is one of the earliest and most influential and greatest to this day.
Their 12" extended versions are fantastic.
You must do live reaction. They are on the Queen level performances. Live in barcelona never let me down again is a must. Epic
You will love this band for real
A Fave since this song was released… On my Permanent ultimate Favorite Playlist.. 😁.. I have a Playlist with this song , Dance mixes, extended versions, covers etc… When I play the playlist in my 50’x 60’ Shop the neighbors can hear it too..
The best Band !
You could say "they invented 80s synth" and have tons of hits -- many which were re-released as extended dance mix versions that you'd hear in clubs. They have deep lyrics as well.
Your instinct on the pronunciation is correct. They were just plain cool.
I lived on Depeche through high school, honestly I'm still living on DM at 53 yrs old. They verbalize my soul musically.
Try Strangelove from Music for the Masses
💜
Saw them last year... they put onna great show
This brings back memories of driving with friends with this song on 10.
We called the musical style simply "Synth" , my teens was very much better because of them. Hugs from 🇸🇪
As a shorty, playing in the front yard of the crib I fell down and I bumped my head
Somebody helped me up and asked me if I bumped my head. I said, "Yeah" So then they said, "Oh, so that mean you gon', you gon' switch it on 'em?" I said "Yeah, Depeche Mode, Depeche Mode is the greatest"
/Pet Shop Boys are greater. Two reasons why: 1. The won beef with Eminem. 2. They had first hip-hop #1 hit in UK with "West End Girls"
One of my favourite bands of all time! For me their album songs of faith and devotion is a masterpiece, their 80's stuff is brilliant but for me their early 90's era was absolutely magic! Check out walking in my shoes, I feel you, get right with me, barrel of a gun and it's no good! Absolute bangers! Also check out the live 101 version of their song stripped! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Ear sex man!
Depeche Mode live at the Letterman Theater is the one to watch.
You have to watch them live
Depeche (De pesh) Mode were/are massive. So many great tunes. Check out "Just can't get enough" for a commercial sound.
Vince Clark on keyboard went on to form Yazzoo with Alison Moyet and then Erasure with Andy Bell, both bands are worth a listen.
