I've been rejected from theatre schools a few times in a row. I recently got into a school I liked and I might even get into my favourite school. I was very relieved, because if they'd rejected me one more time, I would have started a rebellion that left a million dead, I swear to God!
Curious how Hung managed to wage the deadliest rebellion the world has ever seen, yet failed the state exams four times. Looking forward to the next episode - the Boxer rebellion makes for a great story I'm sure!
Hong did manage to become a teacher, and he was probably a great speaker ! I'm thinking of covering the Boxer Rebellion in a seperate video actually, before making the fourth and final part of this series :)
Being a charismatic leader does not require academic achievement. The founders of Han & Ming were of peasantry stock and were barely literate. Or for a more modern example there is Hitler who repeatedly failed in his application to study art in Vienna, yet he started one of the bloodiest wars in history.
Hong was a cult leader , a demagogue . The rebellion started in Guangxi and the southern regions which is far away from the Imperial court in Beijing. Moreover, that era was the begiining of the humilation of China and China was extermely weak and ppl are suffering, thus giving Hong a chance to start the uprising. Just like Hilter who was not a good student but a fanatic in his dangrous belief.
Only approx 1% ever passed the imperial exams. Much of it was based on being able to memorize Confucian classics and it barely touched on mathematics. Corruption was also a factor & cheating was rampant.
You should really consider making a patreon! I’d also love know see any books or sources you use. Like I’ve said before this is my favorite channel and I’ve been waiting for this video all month. Can’t wait for part 4.
I'll probably make one in the near future :) Well for this vid I used several books but the most useful one was probably "Handbook of Christianity in China" (2009) by Nicolas Standaert Thanks so much for your support :D
Your videos are awesome ! Thanks for your your work You pronounce so well Chinese and French words but at the same time are so fluent in English, that's impressive :) Thanks again
Bro I know this is a 4 year old series but please make a new video on this and make perhaps combine all the videos into one larger video. But great job man love it.
While visiting China on a tour I searched for churches but sadly found very few, and the crosses where removed and the doors on the old churches were locked with chains and in much need of repair. Our young female guide, who said she was an atheist, said she did not believe in the "old superstitions" and praised Xi and Xao for their modernization of China. I would like to learn more about China Christians now and how they are again being prosecuted. I thank you for History of China. I wish I had watched them before I went to China!
Hi, thanks ! Well it's complicated. I might stop the series after the civil war (1950s). In any case, I think it'd be good to cover the Boxer Rebellion before
Praise the Lord sir loved your channel please make topic on Brethren missionary work in China and Asia. It's help my phd Thank you Udupi. Karnataka. India
Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll ever finish it, since there are so many projects I want to complete before diving back to this one... Perhpas one day!
Have you ever been told that the first scene of your videos, a illustrated sun with a gate of the Forbidden city. The way that sun was drawn is very inappropriate for Chinese people since it's related to the Japan empire? I rly liked yr video. It's really informative and I think I didn't find basis or distortion abt history. So May I ask you under what consideration you put this sun together with the Forbidden city as the opening scene of yr video?
I can see you what you mean, but in this case it is just an aesthetic choice. This design looks similar because I wanted to give a sense of radiance with sunrays extending out but that's all, there is no relation to Japan or its empire :)
Wonderful and scholarly series of videos, but a small correction: the author states that the Yihetuan (Boxer) motto was: "overthrow the Qing, exterminate the foreigners". In fact, the motto was "support the Qing, exterminate the foreigners" [fu qing mie yang qizhi 輔清滅洋旗幟].
Thank you very much! I covered the Boxer Rebellion in a seperate video, but essentially the boxers were originally a very heterogeneous bunch. At the outbreak, some Boxer groups supported the dynasty, but others were anti-Qing and fought militarily against the dynasty's forces. By 1900, though, the Boxers got together and agreed to fight alongside the Qing against the Eight-nation Alliance
Very eye-opening. It’s amazing how God used the evil of the West to open doors for His gospel in China. He did not approve the evil but since the West was doing it anyway God turned that evil and brought good out of it.
*_i was in my room, crying out from mental breakdown after hearing the news about China wanted to rewrite the bible and the history of the Boxer Rebellion (yep they killed a mother and a child including some preteens boys and girls there... you can see me having mental breakdown, can i listen to ariana grande's 'get well soon'????)_*
I think you should add a little more authentication to your videos of what you claim. In addition having been a foreign Protestant Missionary for over ten years (not sanctioned by the PRC) I help found a Bible School and taught Chinese Church History and agree with much of you documentary. Yet you left out so much about Protestant you give so much of the Roman view. Like Morrison had to get the help of US Secretary of State Maddison to help him get into China as the EIC was prohibiting Missionaries into China. Or that the US Episcopalians came before the Anglicans. and you leave our a lot of the Missionary societies who set up. and at one time the protestant missionaries out numbered those of Rome. Like the Episcopal Missionaries of Bishop William Jones Boone and the Jewish missionary converted to Christianity Samuel Isaac Joseph Schereschewsky who founded St. John's College in Shanghai and the Anglican/Episcopal Church Trinity Church which is now the home of the CCC/TSPM of communist China. or of W.T. WU and K.H. Ting who sold out their faith for communism. While others died or left China they stayed and catered to Moa Zedong. And many many more as you said in the 1800's there were far more protestant missionaries than Roman. So why did you seen to over look them? your video is neither objective nor fair in its reporting of the facts. I would like to give you more but seems your narrowed mined way of thinking is set. Did you mention that many including most of the Romans also kissed the hand of communism to start with their old churches again. capitulating to the will of PRC.
@@shooterdownunder it has not because it's link to the communist party but they have noticed that those that have learn Chinese and confucism become more pro Chinese than ignorant folks.

At that time Han people already being oppressed by the Manchu people, they just need a reason to start a rebellion
Can't wait to watch part 4 please! Really helpful videos. Thank you for making these.
Thanks for following :)

Is part 4 out yet? I have been waiting for a very long time. This is so informational!!
Hi, thank you! Unfortunately I've halted this series to focus on earlier periods of Chinese history. I might get back to it in the future though :)
Ótimo vídeo, incrível como você consegue pronunciar com perfeição as línguas Europeias, especialmente o português!
Muito obrigado ;)
❤I remember watching this documentary when it first came out😊❤😊
Spider Man doing good work I see.

Thanks ! Will do :)
Thank you for creating this series
Good videos. Do you think you can provide closed caption for this video? Thanks,
I've only added subtitles for a few of my videos, cause it takes so much time to do... I'll try to add more in the future
Merci à toi.

Everyone's asking for part 4 but I just want to see a history of Islam in China
May I know who are you and your academic background? Thanks
My channel is a hobby/passion, I actually study neuroscience, not history, even though I've been fascinated by it since a child :)
Is there a part 4?
Hi ! Not for the moment, but I might make one in the future :)
Where is part 4?
It is yet to be done, but you can find out a little more info in my Boxer Rebellion videos :)
@@History_of_China Thank you for your videos.
Can you please do a series on the history of Islam in China?
I plan to. I might start such a new series later, once I reach the muslim rebellions of the 19th centuries in my Qing Emperors series :)
First

I'm kinda curious when you are going to do a video on the history of Islam in China
I'll try to work on it soon, maybe in between one of my Qing Emperors series
Epic anti-christian pamphlets
Hope you also make History of Islam in China
😅😅 crazy chinese brother of Jesus Christ

Get out of Communist China, before its too late
I hope many Chinese people will be saved ,,, and many people who believe in the Lord Jesus
Why the Anglo Saxon are now banning Confucius teaching? It’s not about religion but way of life and true freedom.
It's not the Confucius teachings that are being banned, it's the Confucius institute which is an arm of the Chinese communist party.
@@shooterdownunder it has not because it's link to the communist party but they have noticed that those that have learn Chinese and confucism become more pro Chinese than ignorant folks.
Good on China.
