For that companies need to fix their management first. As an IT professional I can say that no one practice moonlighting for fun as it affects them as well. Working for more than 10 hrs, sitting in front of a PC affects physical as well as mental health. Efficiency: WFH doesn't affect the efficiency instead improved it. If anyone is so talented that he can complete his work in few hours then the expected completion hours and save its time for some other work. Then it seems they are more efficient then one can think. WFH and Mental health: In a city like Delhi where travelling is not so easy and impacts ones mental health. WFH came as a save to that travelling trauma. WFH: It actually added few hours of extra free time spared from travelling, gossips, traffic jams, unnecessary encounters. It also contributes to environment for not burning fuel in personal vehicles. And much more. Basic Causes leading to Moonlight: 1. Inflation and Salaries are not increasing proportionally in most of the organization's 2. Covid19 Pandemic already affected the lives of every citizen. Everyone wants to be ready for any unforeseen condition which may arise in future. 3. Increased unemployment forced a large population to take any job(including jobs with low wages) they can get bcoz if they don't grab it someone will from this large economy.
There is no set working hours as companies usually claim. That is the reason for the fear of losing our edge in the global IT industry. We don't see employees abroad taking up two jobs unless they are in dire need of extra money even while working a four hour shifts. Hon'ble PM wants to increase Indian employee hours to 12 hours a week. I wonder the implications it will have on employees turning to moonlighting due to the sheer number of hours spent in front of a computer.
Companies wants to grow but now employees... Is it not cheating ... Shame on CEO who says cheaters to employees... First look at yourself. are you not cheater who gives 0% increment letter.
