In this rendering, we are transforming a less-productive backyard into a haven and slice of habitat for pollinators. The majority of this renovation is native plants (90%+,) with a few non-natives to help tie transitional areas together.
A pocket prairie will adorn the area around the bonfire pit, largely comprised of native grasses and various forbs. In this planting alone, 13 different native species are spec'd, which will extend pollen, nectar, forage, and habitat for pollinators throughout the year. A Russian Sage acts as a transition between the planting and the green wall of Arborvitaes.
The middle island is made of two existing Redbuds, which underneath a colony of Pennsylvania Sedge interacts with several other low-light natives and Hosta.
Around the perimeter are various natives that help give semblance to existing trees and help soften edges and corners in the yard, giving it a much more positive experience than bare fence.
