We are starting a Distillery (Technically an NDP which is a non distilling producer)! This is the beginning of the journey that we were actually filming. Come to find out this is significantly harder than people would expect. But let's see exactly what it takes to bottle your own whiskey.

Well as someone who works in the shipping side of our business, this is pretty standard now. I’ve spent hours unloading spilled crates of small parts. Nobody cares anymore

@@rickmanasek8468 that’s a shame. I took pride in all my trailers I unloaded and loaded. Rock solid and the drivers expected it from us dock guys.

@@lancerobbins24 sir I hear you. I managed outgoing and incoming freight for five years for my families business. And it is a nightmare. Prices have gone up and quality of everything way down. Pick up times are crazy bad yay Elog, and then the amount of horribly packed freight. Not a month ago after everyone was gone I unloaded a truck and it was long hinges, they had two pallets underneath them, nothing attaching them so they just acted independently.. the hinges are like 96 inches long lol, standard pallets bro… who does that

Common practice is if seller paid shipping they are responsible. If you paid shipping, your responsible. You gota file claim against the trucking co. They are pretty good about paying. Just document the damage. Never refuse shipment on something you paid to ship. They will take it back to their warehouse, and charge you a fee to store it, lol.

Love it. Use to work for a company that sold glass. Still get all my sample bottles from them. I’d say based on that experience that your situation is not normal as far as the pallets go… but having stuff not strapped well and bouncing around in a trailer is unfortunately pretty normal. I’m not going to disparage every truck driver out there but personally I’ve experienced a lot of apathy.

Definitely feel some sympathy for you. I have traveled 2500 miles to do a job before and opened my truck to find what looks like a tornado ripped through my product. LTL is the worst because they will throw somebody else's product on top of yours with zero fucks given. I know it's expensive but my company started buying the whole trailer even if we couldn't fill the whole thing. The pups are nice for LTL loads if you decided to buy the whole trailer.

We've had to return a shipment of bottles right before bottling because so many were broken. It's not just the broken ones that is the problem, it's also that some shards of glass may end up in the non-broken bottles. Last thing you want is a customer drinking a shard of glass that you didn't know was there!

What a nightmare. Most of my family are truck drivers, with the majority being Owner/Operators. You have to tie that stuff down before departure and make sure the dock guys stack and wrap it correctly. This is definitely not a "normal" experience. Probably becoming a common one though unfortunately. The pandemic has ushered in a shortage of everything, including "give a shit." Thanks for the video Dan. I look forward to adding a bottle of Virtue Spirits to my top shelf. Any idea where this will be sourced from yet?

I work in LTL. Sometimes things happen, but no that is not normal. I’m really curious why they sent that to you on a 48’ trailer when I’m assuming you ordered based on your home address. They should have brought it on a smaller rig. I’ve done deliveries like that but only when it’s to somewhere to tight for even the smaller trucks. I’ve actually gone to houses like yours and dragged the pallets right inside people’s garages. Hope things go smoother for you in the future.

Don’t waste time counting all the broken bottles. If there’s a broken bottle in a box, than you must assume there are micro cracks in the other bottles in the same box and they are unsafe to use. So really you should just count how many boxes have a broken bottle and then multiply that by how many bottles are in a box.
