In my years I've noticed that it's incredibly easy to get busy especially if you really enjoy doing our job in the new construction field i wont lie it can get fun, but my advice is make sure you stop and take your breaks and eat your lunch, skipping lunch especially will do a MASSIVE number to your health if your boss is on your ass to get things done and your being pushed to make those sacrifices then I recommend you look for a more reasonable opportunity with a different company or just simply sit down behind closed doors and talk it out
This is something i've been worried about as a first year apprentice. Just knowing how many injuries ive had in one year I want to take my health seriously so i can do this for a long time
I once read that for tradesmen, our number 1 tool is not our wrench’s, it’s our body, so we need to take care of it. Once I read that, it became one of my mantras.
I do HVAC. That is the best knee pad I've ever had. I've had it for 4 years now and it's still in almost perfect shape meanwhile my coworkers go through other brands every 6 months
I’m normally the only guy on the job site using proper PPE. Sometimes I get made fun of for it but I don’t care, I don’t like getting stuff in my eyes or poop on my hands 💩
It is so awesome that a Chanel like this exists! It has helped me maximise my understanding of the industry in my apprenticeship outside of just working in it. Plumbers need to look out for one another for real!
Hey Rodger, I saw you on Dr. Phil. Kind of disappointed you didnt get to speak more to that kid. Do you think you can do a follow up video on your, thought?
PA here. I strongly recommend having a regular doctor and having regular check ups. I work in urgent care and the amount of people with uncontrolled medical problems like high blood pressure or diabetes who don’t have a regular doctor is staggering, and we see it a lot with tradesmen. It’s like if you never change the oil in your car and then you’re shocked when the engine fails. Most of these diseases can be prevented or managed early and if they’re ignored for decades they will cause all kinds of issues. Oh, and good call with goggles. Corneal abrasions suck and they’re super painful. Pieces of metal at high velocity can actually penetrate the eyeball rather than just a superficial scratch and that just bought you an expensive ED visit.
Its always important to have a strong work boot, but I think it would be important to have a lighter duty shoe that you wear before and after work. In case you have to do some heavy work with a buddy last minute, a pair of light composite toe tennis shoes isnt a bad idea. Or at least, thats what I think.
i’m shocked at how many people i see on site not using hearing and eye protection. i try to call it out when i see it but ultimately it’s on the individual.
Roger if one wants to start the journey of becoming a plumber would getting a plumbing technician certification help? It's a 4 to 6 month course that clemson university offers. Thanks.
I think this topic needs to be brought up more , young kids need to hear that trades are good career and that their are options for them to make a good living and for those that are wanting to expand such as build a business this careers might meet their interest.

On the knee protection front, I always recommend the Klien Kneepad Sleeves. I wear them under my pants every day, and I love em!
Great tip!
Safety glasses REALLY help, I now suffer from chronic dry eyes that burn if I don’t put eye drops in twice daily
And reason I got this is because I wouldn’t wear my safety glasses especially in dusty conditions

One benefit of working in the trades is that it incentivizes physical fitness. Your livelihood depends on it.
Agree with your PPE choices 100% . Love all your videos.

It’s true. Find a good work boot. Find a good work boot. FIND A GOOD WORKBOOK!

Big fan and fellow plumber from the cold mitten.
At 32, I would go into the trades, except my shoulder already has arthritis and knees are going too.
My helper identifies as a bucket sitter lol
😂😂

Timberland pro composite toe are the most comfortable boots you’ll ever wear.

Thank you for the helpful advice
No problem!
So much common sense in this video!
Great video! Too often overlooked. Also, to stay healthy, don't take the jabs ;)
