was blessed enough to be coached by joey wong last summer in Bend, Oregon and gosh is he a great guy. hope i cross paths with him again, great baseball mind.
I was a junior when Joey was a senior at Sprague High School in Salem, Oregon. Along with playing baseball, he was the starting QB for Sprague's 2005 State Champion Football Team. Four year Varsity for baseball. -Honors- As a Senior: All-State First Team, League Player of the Year, drafted in 46th round by Houston Astros. As a Junior: 4A HS State Champions, All-State First Team, All-League First Team; USA Youth National Team. As a Sophomore: all-league second team.
That was one of the greatest DP's I have seen. I have no idea how Joey not only threw a clean throw to first while throwing across his body but also being parellel to the ground with the runner sliding into him. Unbelievable. The only play to out do that was Darwin Barney's line drive catch against ASU yesterday.
it has gotta be the 2nd baseman. he jumped to dodge that sliding player and he threw the ball at the same time with such accuracy!! AWSOME DOUBLE PLAY DUDES!!
@coldwind777 if he came across the bag the guy would have been safe, and there is a lot of ways to do certain things... there's no specific way.. it comes naturally and that play is definitely one of the most athletic plays i've seen a second baseman make but no way is 'proper' you have to let the play come to you, you cant be a robot out there
@tyler5jobin why would the runner be safe? I didn't say he should be on the grass. you can step to the feed without taking your foot off the bag. no you don't always have to make the "proper" playand yes this play is great I just think he would have had an easier time stepping across the bag. obviously it doesn't matter because he can strong arm a ball 90 feet no problem. just saying.
@mr11fawful Beavs*. everyone complains about you having Phil Knight because he's your sugar daddy. he bought the Cal State Fullerton coaching staff (one of the best in the nation) and put up the money for more scholarships than we have. its no surprise that the Ducks are better than us. its always going to be that way.
@tyler5jobin I think so, too. If he stepped into it, he would have received the ball faster and may have been able to get more on the throw. I don't think there's too many people who would posit this as the "proper" way to turn that play, but I'm no expert and I've certainly done nothing even close to that.
@coldwind777 oh god... ahaha if you didnt notice how the throw still barely beat him then what do you think the result would have been with that one more second of him coming across the bag and setting his feet? safe maybe? i think so. alright just thought i'd inform you
@ian503840 you lost the season series to us last year. Phil Knight bought a coaching staff and built a stadium because we won 2 world series'. shut it.
@mr11fawful now what I'm guessing is that you'll come back with another non-sensical comment about how the Ducks are the best and the Beavers suck. its sad, really, that a school with so many fans have no fans who can actually hold an intelligent conversation about sports. all you know is that the Ducks are better than most teams, and you're too arrogant to recognize any other teams' accomplishments, or your own mistakes. go ahead, be proud of being a good team. I'll be proud of being smarter
Best turn I have ever seen
One of the greatest defensive plays EVER.

Darwin and Joey just show how great the future of baseball is in the US.

I got some advice: don't look for advice on UA-cam.
That was weak, average at best.
Very funny 14 year old comment
