Easier said than done, many were given to the museum by their host countries, many artifacts would also have been lost/destroyed/sold elsewhere if museums like this hadn't taken them on, over 90% of Egypt's tombs are artifacts are lost forever due to local tomb raiders and plunderers
I find it hard to believe a whole community was away whilst a pole this size was just stolen but I'm glad it's going home I say give everyone around the world their stuff back museums are dumb anyway
How an earth did this happen without being noticed? Such a bizarre story and the once trusted BM’s reputation has really been tarnished and needs major investigation.
As a Brit living in Canada I can understand your confusion. The 1st nation's tribes were hunter gatherers living a stone age existence. They all leave as a community to hunt and gather. This was one of their hunting grounds.
Lots of foreign things in the UK that should be returned home.
But the museum bought this item fair and square

A "memorial pole"? Aren't they called a "totem pole?
Unless...
Did the First Nation people create Festivus?!?!
At least this a start of returning items that have been taken out of countries illegally..
‘Allegedly’ should be used in all Sky News headlines!

They were hunter gatherers this was taken from their winter grounds
Here here- Britain has a Lot of Reformation to make to a lot of Countries - then Britain will get better itself.
Many of the first nations on the coast of British Columbia had summer and winter settlements.
I don't consider museums dumb but the remainder of your comment I agree with. Been saying it for years give back things that belong to other countries
I really thought for a moment they meant "Memorial Pole" as in a citizen of Poland, and I was so fricking confused
Thanks
What a heist that must have been.
The beginning of a long journey
If Britishers have any shame , then they should return Kohinoor to india
Why would they give back a gift
Well done
