    How anyone could give this a "thumbs down" is beyond me. Great expression, phrasing, dynamics and intonation. Absolutely superb playing and working as a section.

      I just consider myself blessed I live is a time where I get to hear Baer play with ny phil legends like Joe Allesi. To me this is almost the equivalent to living in a time wear I got to hear all the Chicago greats like Arnold Jacobs.

      Finish your sentence: an amazing musician who is an active supporter of the r*pe culture at the NYPhil. Why is he still a member of this Orchestra?

    Beautiful! Effortless ensemble, balance and blend. Please include the tuba player's name in the description. You can't call this the low brass of the NYP without him!

    FWIW: Alessi and Finlayson are institutions at the NYPhil. Curran and Williams were both at the Atlanta Symphony previously to the Phil. There's a fair number of past ASO players in the NYPhil.

      Stephanie Curry Watch Adam Neely’s video on combination tones if you haven’t. Hearing a high overtone that isn’t being played is a sign that their intonation with each other is impeccable.

      idhott2003 the pitch is too low to make combination tones.. actually in physics overtones occur all the time when a pitch is played. You can really hear the harmonic series when they all sit on one note.

    • @derjakob9611
      @derjakob9611 4 роки тому

      @Manu Petaia Yeah the problem is that it is the fundamental tone, so it fits pretty good in the chord. Easily mistaken for a trombone but that would be a pretty hard trombone part😂

    Trombone was my primary instrument in college and yet I’m still amazed at the amount of sound in this excerpt. It sounds like there’s way more than 5 players on the stage.

    Amazing how small the tuba looks compared to the 6' 4" Alan Baer. I'm assuming that's the Ursus model and not the Baer, since the Baer would have a much larger bore. Even so, it probably looks like a 4/4 tuba when he plays it!
