whoever doubted that this is freestyle, just be reminded that his written lyrics are multimillion dollar smash-hits. for some its hard to believe, but imagine practicing your whole life just one thing. and now we see another dedicated example of what is possible in freestyle with harry mack. eminem is just immensly ahead of his time!
Em is freestyling in the sense that he did not plan what he was going to rap. But also he's got so many lines and such in his mind ready to pull at anytime. This is what he excelled at and how he got to the top. Him and proof used to just sit there and freestyle for hours as well. Are we going to argue that Harry Mack isnt freestyling off the top when he's pulling from his repertoire of rhymes and lines in his head? That's an extreme argument but if you really look at Eminem's eyes while He's performing this, he's gone to that same place that Harry goes when he gets in the zone. To be fair, I could be wrong...that being said I wish we could see him freestyle back and forth in a cypher with someone like Harry where they're feeding off eachother's bars so we can put this convo to rest and finally have some answers as to what he's capable of and whether these freestyles are truly off the top
I'll always have Em as my favorite artist. I would always admit Harry is better at freestyling than Em. As you said - they both have thought of millions of rhymes in their head. Different styles, em was always focused on records (after he got out of the battle space). Battle rap is slightly different to what HMack does too.
Loved this when I freestyle when I found it online not long ago. From what I understand they came up with the hook on the way but I think the rest is truly freestyle. Agree with you on Eminem. Truly groundbreaking. All these reactions and rabbit holes got me back into rap and lots of other musicians I hadn't heard of. Thanks for your reactions!
i think ppl also forget how much he worked his ass off and he always gives dues and pays respect to the fore runners and way pavers. He live and breaths Hip Hop, it helped him throughout him growing up and he just got morre nerdy and complex with it. Give the Man the respect he desrves, he has the skills, the passion and the catalouge to back it all up. Old and new Em have their place
100%. Great artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Pablo Picasso, Beethoven, Bach, Ravel, etc. all went through periods where they changed up their styles to explore new directions that kept them excited and evolving. I would be seriously disappointed if Eminem hadn't kept exploring new directions. Better for him to lose old fans and gain new ones, because the new ones will look at his back catalog and appreciate him even more, even if they have different preferences about which parts of his career they personally prefer. The old fans will still love his old work, and eventually they'll come to appreciate some of his newer work. The worst outcome would be for him to get bored because he no longer has room to grow. It's his growth that has kept him relevant, because "the hood" is such a small part of the market, and he's thinking so much bigger. That's why he puts out masterpieces like "Darkness" that are lyrically, sonically, and visually stunning... and which people speak to people on levels that a lot of his other work does not.
Old school Slim Shady LP and Marshal Mathers LP are so good. Don’t get me wrong I like the new stuff but I LOVE the older ones. Also pretty positive that at the end when they started to rap together was the only part that was written on the way up there
I feel like the start and end was freestyle, while the middle 10:58 was written, he is going way too fast and fluid here! No disrespect to Em he is a legend, but I feel if any rapper wants to prove their freestyle skills they need either words or objects like H Mack does to prove it
@@Valleystick i honestly don't think so look how impressed tim westwood was during it and was random beats you can't just freestyle written lyrics on a random beat like that
This is for sure freestyle from where he came, and Royce also mentioning Em never used pen making rap god. Em has also talked about having pocket schemes when freestyling. Check out D12 Backstage freestyle , its like 30min from 2001.
Em claims to have written "Rap God" in 6-1/2 minutes, that he one-take freestyled the whole thing. But just listen to the music and beats he's going over ...there's no way he didn't hear that a few times and have a detailed plan for how he planned to weave everything together, especially with the callouts and references to preceding rap groups. The fastest part of the song is a flow taken directly from "Supersonic" by the group JJ Fab - he even incorporates some of their lyrics. Like Lil Wayne and Jay-Z, he may have composed most of the lyrics in his head beforehand, then spit the completed work when he hit the booth. Even Harry Mack has used that approach for some of his more intricate works, like portions of the "Soulliliquies" EP, and in the video, there's a brief description of the approach he used for each section.
@@jasonerickson1753The clip where he says he freestyled Rap God, if you watch that entire clip I think it's pretty clear that he was joking about that. Not to diminish Eminem's skill by any means, but I see people throw that out all the time like it's an established fact but I think people only see the cut version of that clip. 🙂
JayZ is rapping to a different audience than Eminem is. JayZ can make a banger, but listening to an Eminem song is like brain twister man. He never ceases to amaze me.
You can see how much the middle section smacked bro on the right. It is really that deep. The word play and flow in that section is like leaving planet earth.
the only reason i would suspect it is off the dome, is because he is extremely focused, if you watch his eyes he is constantly staring at the floor in deep focuse, not like somebody reciting lines, more like h mack or any other good freestyler when they go into almost a trance. Also keep in mind that em was a battle rapper, so he had at least some freestyle foundation way back then. Plus he is a hiphop extremist, not to sound parasocial but i would believe that that guy lives and breathes hip hop, and over the years of yes 20+ year career, he would have accumulated a metric shit ton of rhymes jsut in his nots or hovering somewhere in the back of his mind, so chances are he could easily freestyle some crazy shit off the top and jsut weave in some writtens to make something that sounds alomst too good to freestyle. If you think of harry mack he has like 90% freestlye and 10% "written" when he spits and by written i mean lines he has used before, like fillers or his weed bars and water bottle bars etc, technically once he has spit them once you could consider them in his "book of rhymes" kinda like when em writes it down. It would be impossible to tell what percent of ems freestyle came from his "book of rhymes", but i would assume its a lot more then harry. But yeah we cant really know unless someone could throw him some words or shit like that, but he doesent really have a reason to do that sadly. Well soory for writing a book, just kind of kept on typing and this is what came out. Edit: actually one more thing i forgot to mention that would speak toward the fact that it is off the dome is that it is nowhere close to as clean as his written bars normally are, i dont mean that small things, but more as a whole it jsut doesent all fuse well together like something em would write normally would. Or i could be delusional. I will finish the vid now xD

Now as far as the written vs off the top debate, I'm definitely going to wait until after y'all hear Em explain the hook they came up with on the way to the studio before I jump down your throat over thinking the verses were from writtens
