- So I gave the Balan Wonderworld demo a try. It's weird. A friend described it as "like it was made in Dreams for the PS4, and not in a good way." I have to agree.

If you look closely your character doesn't breathe, their model just shrinks and grows ever so slightly.

I think that the character (don't know the name of her) had a fever dream or something...
Cliché plot twist: she was in a coma the whole time...
The game is named after the big hat dude, and the only time you control him is in crappy quick-time events.... even Megaman X7 eventually let you use X.
Hopefully they'll add more to the game involving him but I have my doubts. 😐
It's like they took a typical 3d platformer, isolated every move you can usually do in that type of game and made sure you can't use them in a row... and that's it. They took the formula and made it worse and I don't know where this is supposed to be fun ?
I'm so confused....
Apparently it was originally intended for mobile so I can sort of see why the moves are separated like that, but jeeez it doesn't work for a console/PC game at all... 😅

BTW, I played the demo. I like the Sonic/NiGHTS style graphics, but the game feels too simple and easy. Believe me, and this is coming from the guy who likes easy games.
They took the stretchy onion boy from Mario Odyssey and just made it 100x more uncomfortable to look at. Also welcome back, I enjoyed the video.
And way less fun to use

@@ToridoriGaming if you bothered to get the statues, you unlock the first act for stages 4 and 6, which are honestly major step ups from c o r n land.
World 4 has a wind/air motif, and a heavy emphasis on verticality. The suits here are also cool, like the bat that lets you homing attack and the s h e e p b a l l.
World 6 is a giant clocktower, and while some parts can drag on, it actually has some of the more interesting gameplay mechanics and level design. Costumes are a little more boring (gear-suit to move switches and rocket punch which is dainty-dragon but actually useful), but they unlock some neat little goodies in older stages.
this game feels like if puppeteer was 3d, but also bad.

Its like Super Mario Galaxy and Kameo Elements of Power combined but if it was more Japanese. Those little creatures are like mini Kirbys. Love the Ainsley Harriott memes. This was really fun.

If ya play as the yu-gi-oh looking mf, then it turns into a game where an antisocial kid goes to magical fairy land with a crazed top hat genie thing to learn how to be social.
Also there's like a reverse Persona 5 where you return hearts to people by beating the shit out of their shadows and shit, idfk.
This reminds me SO much of NiGHTS and Billy Hatcher, it's freaky!

It's essentially NiGHTS if you never played as NiGHTS or Billy Hatcher without eggs.

The Chapter 4 and 6 level in the demo are pretty good, Chapter one is meh (to unlock you need to collect at least 8 statues from Chapter 1).
I don't think I have the willpower to collect 8 statues 😅

When I saw the trailer for this game, I thought "Wow, this new world looks amazing!"
Just played the Switch demo of this game and, not factoring in the performance of the Switch itself, the gameplay didn't really impress me!
It was a bit messy, all the face buttons just make you jump, I mean, really, just ONE move to perform, even with different costumes? Simplicity can be a good thing if it's done well, but you'd think for a dreamy world like this they'd do more with your character's moveset!
Compared to the likes of Mario Odyssey and even A Hat in Time, what I played here felt a little disjointed! Kinda disappointing considering the creator of this was responsible for Sonic!
I feel really bad for the developers, nobody seems to like it. But when people are all giving the same list of problems they must know they've buggered up. The costumes as you said leave a lot to be desired; the dragon being unable to perform even a basic jump should be criminal in terms of game design.
yeah it kinda fails at everything it tries to do, the characters look weird and creepy appart from tophat man, they randomly dance wich is distracting and unatural looking and disapear when you walk close wich is weird and also unatural
the plataforming is a joke, there's only 1 comand you can do in terms of plataforming and that is jumping/ability wich is not enough for something trying to be a plataformer in 2021, even with an amazing total of 3 moves if you count all transformations in you can have at once this is pathetic, they need more movement options if they want jumping in this game to be any level of enjoyable, super mario 64 was better at it and its multiple decades old, they also have reused animations and run at a slug's pace
making 80 powerups was just a terrible idea, mario doesnt have 80 powerups in its lifetime and these dudes are coding entire costumes and functions for each one, most of them arent even good and some just dont allow you to jump wich is a sin, and some are just useless
the story isnt even shown in the game from what I know, there are kids they're sad and then the hatechild between the onceler and bill cypher appears and just acts around them randomly, then boom you're in the game, no more exposition for the rest of the demo

I thought what we had was special, Victoria. But now I know how you really feel about me and my people...
Really though, this seems like a massive disappointment. The game, not the video. That opening cinematic? Pretty well done, if a bit cliche. But the gameplay? The character runs too slow, but the run animation moves too fast. The multiple costumes (I think they proudly say over 80 in the final game?) are redundant if they can each only do one thing. They should've mushed some together to make changing costumes less tedious.
I heard the theory as well that it was going to be a mobile game, and I could certainly see it. Simple controls, one button for everything (which is dumb when some costumes can't jump, as you pointed out), and okay-ish graphics. The costume swap in the top left even seems made for a tablet. Make them bigger and clickable, and that'd be how you swap I bet.
I was excited for this game, but unless this is a very early build demo, I think I might skip it.
They're pushing their luck if it's an early build, supposed to be out end of March. 😬
@@ToridoriGaming Maybe. I could see this being a good game with some tweaks, but it seems nobody stopped to think if some gameplay choices were bad ideas. Giving each costume the ability to jump would be a massive QOL improvement.
