Damm found out him and Phil Henderson. So fun to watch in college. Those Iowa teams with Marble, Armstrong and Horton from the late 1980's were bad ass. As they say F--- Cancer!
Lots of great talent in this game. I had the privilege to see many of these players in college. Sean Elliot went on to have a long and successful career in the NBA.
destndj53 : Just FYI, it’s Quin, not “Quinn.” Just a bit more trivia: his high school coach, Ed People (Mercer Island High School, Mercer Island, WA) coached the 1982 McDonald’s All-American West Team, with Waymon Tisdale, Byron Scott, et al.
In my humble opinion this is THE ONLY HS basketball game that should air on national tv. ESPN should be ashamed how much money they have grossed on airing 16 and 17 year olds.
Cool that they called at least two players would make it to NCAA Championship Game the next year. "Never Nervous" Pervis Ellison did it (MOP of 1986 Final Four) for Nat'l Champs Louisville, and Danny Ferry did it for Duke ('86 Runner-Up)
Yup! That’s Al’s Dad.. He picked up the game late coming from the Dominican Republic so he was RAW!! Signed with Guy V. Lewis of Houston’s “Phi Slamma Jamma” fame.. He didn’t qualify & jumped about schools until playing ball overseas
@@robertallen274 According to Wikipedia on Tito Horford.... After high school, Horford enrolled at the University of Houston, when he was ruled ineligible. He then went to Louisiana State University before being kicked off the team. He then played at Miami.[2]
I loved how Dickie V kept showing love to Glen Rice in that game. No disrespect to Roy Marble but Glen led Flint Northwestern to back to back state titles and was named Mr. Basketball that year. Roy also led Flint Beecher to back to back titles in the Class B division and was the runner up to Glen for the Mr. Basketball award. I have no idea why Glen wasn't named to the McDonald's team. was based on high school location.... example, Pooh Richardson from Pennsylvania went to UCLA and played on the East squad.... also, Quin Snyder from the state of Washington went to Duke and played on the West team. @@MQ_eleven Okay, based on some of the locations, it seems that the East North Central states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin) and the East South Central states (Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee) are considered part of the West for this series. Personally, I consider those regions to be part of the East as it's easier, IMHO, to use the Mississippi River as a dividing line.
@@clarkmccauley9723, The Dean Smith Center wasn’t built yet when Simmons was at LaSalle. North Carolina still played most of their home games at Carmichael Arena on Campus in Chapel Hill. I graduated that year and a lot guys were already decided upon either before senior year or early in the season. Rod had the street rep but not the politics. But just about every point guard he played against in camps or tournaments he ripped apart.
@Jaleel, btw not only with Rod, but I don’t know if you remember Todd Mitchell who was All Big Ten @Purdue. But he was a lot like Hammonds coming out of Ohio but people didn’t catch on until late. But I saw him eat people alive in camps and of course he did his thing at Purdue...
They put Knoxsville in the west. Knoxsville is on the East side of TN, cross the border to NC then the Atlantic coast. They hav PA players on east and west.
The West Coast got ZERO RESPECT in those days. I played in High School in Peoria, Illinois 81/82 and San Diego, California 83/85 and I could tell you why.
RIP Benji. He definitely would've played in this game. Good to see my boy Irvin Thomas playing in this game.
Rip to Benji Wilson, he proved that he was the best in the nation in the 1984-85 season.
Benji would have played in this game rest in peace
Rest in Peace Benji 🏀

Send it in Jerome!!
Great prediction! Pervis Ellison of Louisville and Danny Ferry of Duke played in the 1986 Final Four.
No Rod Strickland?
Out of these 1985 McDonald's High School All American players, Sean Elliot had the best overall career, college and NBA combined...
I have to disagree he played like crap with my Detroit Pistons lol.
No Oak Hill or IMG nonsense.
@2:09 the prediction was correct. Both Duke and Louisville had two players each from this game on their roster.
Notice the small amount of Private schools and no prep schools? So different back then.

Pitt screwed Jerome Lane. He came out of high school with the ability to play guard at 6'6" and they basically turned him into a power forward.
He should have chose a school that would allow him to play his desired position.
More strategy in this all star high school game then in the NBA in 2021
