Thank you for sharing your adventures in sewing. I have purchased fleece blankets from my local thrift store. Variety of textures. This includes fleece pillowcases that require an absorbent layer and a bit of sewing. Also, our local library has a sewing studio and patrons can use the sewing machines for 2 hours each day for free. Lots of helpful and creative people around who are willing to help. Again, thank you for encouraging me to make my own fleece for my piggies. Love from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Hi Scotty. I’ve been sewing most of my life. My Grandma taught me when I was 11 years. So that makes it 57 years. I think you are doing a great job, for a beginner. Your guinea pigs will love and appreciate the fleece. When you are making a tunnel for them to sleep in, it’s always a good idea to make extra tinkle pads, for inside. And don’t kid yourself, during the night, they will back up, hang their little butts out of the tunnel , poop and crawl back in and go to sleep. By morning, you should have a great little pile of beans. Although, on occasion, you will find a bean or two inside their tunnels. Keep up the good work. You can make pads to go under their water bottles to catch those occasional drips. If you make long, thinner pads, use a ruler or even a yardstick to assist in turning the pads inside out. I’ve found wooden spoons to also use. Since fleece and the batting does ravel, just pin the end together and stitch a couple of rows of stitching, to secure the end together. Make sure, when you start sewing to stitch forward about 1/2 inch, then hold the reverse button and stitch backwards to secure the seam end together. When you get to the end of your seam, slowly sew to the end and hit that reverse button again, and while holding the reverse button in, sew about 1/2 inch backwards, then release the button and sew forward to the end. Then lift up your presser foot up and clip the threads. Good luck. You will get better as time goes on. There is a UA-cam listing called GuineaPiggiesDesigns. She has tutorials on how to sew all kinds of things, step by step. You’ll be a Pro in no time.
    Happy Stitching, Nancy 😇🥰🐹💗💕
p.s.- please check your tutorial on how to build a C & C cage. I have some questions about coroplast.

I think it's good for everyone to know basics about anything you might need to fix or make. Men lose buttons, too! Car tires don't NOT go flat just because it's a woman's car! I can do quite a bit of construction (even used to co-own a construction company), and was an oil change mechanic for a short while in my younger years.
I learned to sew on a machine by making piggie fleeces. I'm not an expert, yet, but the piggies don't seem to mind a few imperfect seams. hehe

Yes, Valerie probably has some uploaded, and I know I've watched Paiges pets, she does piggy items as well. Also, I know the cotton batting is absorbent, but if you get a U haul blanket, you'll have better results, I think anyway, or put a piece of U haul in between the batting for more absorbency. I know there are alot of different materials as absorbent layers you can use. Guinea piggy designs is a channel that has alot of different tutorials as well. Good for you!

I learned "necessary female skills" in school, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and sewing, by hand(mostly mending holes in socks and underwear) and machine. I hated it then! Too female. I wanted to do woodworking, sawing, drilling, gluing, filing, staining, nailing, and putting screws in properly. I had to find out that this "boys' education" did not take place, but partaking in the textile arts was compulsory for girls. I went to school in the 1970s and equal opportunity was still a fledgling.
Later in life I returned to the textile arts, but taught myself to crochet lace (instead of baby wear), do hardanger embroidery, knit elaborate cable patterns. These days I design my own patterns, often as I go.
In my family I learned to put on wallpaper, and paint it, and lay tiles.
When I bought my apartment these skills were handy.
Scott, I think it doesn't matter if a woman or a man do sewing, or any kinds of textile arts. Neither does it matter if a woman or a man build furniture. In history, embroiderer was a male profession, as was weaving. The small scale personal use embroidery and weaving was done by the women, to my knowledge that is. Or part of the family income was generated by "cottage industries".

I’m in the UK, and sewing I think is still generalised as a female thing. In terms of what hobbies do I as a female have which are generally considered male....I love DIY and building things. One of my favourite things to do is draw up plans for things I could build. I very rarely build any of these as they get quite elaborate and could be expensive, but I built my piggies hay tray, and I built their last cage, too. I’m the process of designing a shoe rack, too :)

nothing wrong about men sewing, its a creative thing just like making a shelf or set of cupboards lots of men sew upholstery for furniture /cars etc no difference to making stuff you need for your piggies or home your doing good Scotty , I learnt handsewing at home and on machine in home ec class in school, by that time my mum had a sewing machine so we always had one about my brother used to use it to for his stuff, I learnt to sew for my piggie from youtube videos , a pattern and instructions for every thing you want, in saying that my first 3 cage liners were handsewn, big job but still they are holding together, until I bought me a machine now I have alsorts of stuff, and I used furniture blankets for the absorbent lining works really great and is cheap from the hardware store, Im in New Zealand and a large blanket is around $10 - $12 and makes 2 - 3 liners for a 4x2 C&C style cage with pieces left over for some small pads, and a tunnel or 2, I live alone so I do anything I need to have done from building shelves , using hand tools, saws , all that stuff and can fix cars not so much now as Im getting older and arthritis restricts my moveability but Ive done panel beating, welding and spent 18 yrs operating heavy machinery , I can drive them all, trucks, big and small and I can also find my way around a computer and have done office work as well, was Quarry Manager for 6 yrs until an accident put me on disability, hence the reason I now have time for piggies and my cat, heres a tip for ya, if your going to be sewing lots get you a rotary cutter, honestly its a blessing in disguise, perfect lines none of that sissor action and you can cut several pieces at a time which makes all your pieces the same size so sewing will be a breeze , its a round blade cutter made by Friskars

In answer to your questions, me and my husband live in the USA. He sews just fine and dandy, and I enjoy fishing. Basically we do things because we want to, f- what everyone else thinks.

Hi Scotty! I work in construction as a welder. It is a very male dominated field. At home, i do all kinds of 'women's work', though. I sew, crochet, garden(I'm pretty sure gardening is for men also) And men can be sew-ers. Taylors for men's clothing have traditionally been men and shoe makers have sewing skills, too. Sewing is a perfectly acceptable skill for men.

First time ever touching a sewing machine was to make a potty pad. My husband showed me how to use the machine 😳🤣 I’m getting better. I can’t measure to save my life, but I try. And my lines are never straight. Thanks for all of your videos. I’ve learned so much from you and your lil piggies 😍🥰

Thank for making this video and spreading awareness that men can sew too! I made a reaction video to yours on my channel if you needed some tips and tricks to make better pads or liners if you do continue your sewing journey. But great job!
