i think max tank. I love getting hit by the biggest death god beam and only take 50 damage. Also i beat expert mode for the first time with melee and all warding.
If you replace the beetle shell with the shinobi infiltrator torso, you have a pretty balanced late hardmode melee setup which gives you 35% crit, 10% melee damage, 30% melee speed and 74 defense.
Personally, I'd replace the Hallowed Mask with the Chlorophyte mask, it's only 4 less defense but melee damage stats are quite high, sure the crit chance increase is less but that's compensated for by the Valhalla boots But I agree both are viable
The thing i like about you is that even after 500 hours in terraria i still see new things here , this one isn't so new i saw a few times before. Keep the good work brotha

This is essentially what I built when Journey's End came out (in Master mode, only difference is that I just used all Beetle armor pre-Moon Lord). It was very funny shrugging off everything Moon Lord would think of throwing at me... outside of the big laser, that I still needed to avoid. My friend (who was doing a mage DPS build), wasn't so happy with the revelation of how much more effective my build was at bossing.
I couldn't even beat Golem with a Mage Loadout. I shredded the Moon Lord in 20 seconds with a Summoner Loadout. For pre Moon Lord, I first beat him with Titanium Armor and in my 1.4.4 playthrough, I first-tried him with Valhalla Knight armor and Ballistas.
@@KikiCatMeow It was easy because I had a Campfire, Heart Lantern, Dryad healing, Honey, 7 tile walls, and a chair. I healed about 30 HP a second with this setup. The Valhalla Knight set increased my regeneration as well. If I were to try without the Regen station, I wouldn't have survived. I later did a Summon Only Run, where I used a Minion Summoner Loadout against the Moon Lord, and it took an Asphalt Runway, a Nurse, and 11 attempts to win, in which I dealt the entire 125000 damage in 2 minutes... Pro Tip: Get a Terraprisma, rather than the Stardust Cell staff I used in my Summon Run, which does double the DPS of a Stardust Dragon or Cell.

I think Terraria perfectly hits the intersection between powerful setups and restraint. Like, in some games you can try and get literally every single damage-modifying perk; and it'll literally just be like a +15% increase overall, from everything. But you wouldn't want buffs to be way too powerful cuz then the game is way too class-dependent. I think that's one of the main reasons people like Terraria and its progression so much.
Sockrteez trying to figure out his next video: "Hmm, I suppose I could maybe find another item- DANG IT I DIED AGAIN! I'm never gonna beat the Moon Lord at this point. Alright, how much defense can I get!? I'm gonna roleplay as the Dungeon Guardian"
Id recommend adding some kind of afk movement, be it minecart rails, hoiks, or teleporters. A well set up arena with this completely removes the need for a specialized build, and often allows for weapons that cant hit through blocks. In fact, basically all modded bosses (that are meant to be beaten) can be cheesed this way, though it often comes down to ludicrous world spanning highly complicated minecart rails. However, It looks like you are more interested in minimal arena setup, in which case I recommend the Star Veil, which extends the duration of i-frames and also deals damage when hit, paired with standing in lava. The result of this is essentially an 70% chance brain of confusion, at the cost of almost all standard health regen. This will require reasonably high defense, to reduce the contact damage of lava, but not as much as you use in this video. Alternatively, if you are willing to equip bandage/ankh shield to negate the bleeding, spikes allow you to proc i-frames significantly faster, allowing even better odds of avoiding damage. Hope this helps!
This is fascinating. Which accessory would you recommend swapping for the star veil? Berserker gloves? And would this switch still be worth if there was only honey and no lava?

Thank you i finally beat moon lord but i used berserkera glove, frozen sheild, celestial shell, worm scarf, and the fire gauntlet with the armer you recomended thank you(normal mode)
I had to use a somewhat different build which is a tank mixed with a dodge build technically which helped me beat the moon lord on legendary difficulty! It requires all the accessories you previously mentioned, but i believe I replaced the flesh knuckles with a cross necklace, and the armor was just a full set of turtle, only issue being it’s thorn capabilities, but we had spawn statues of eater of souls and they would not die too often from the armor and if one DID, it would instantly be replaced. They should deal 1 damage to the player and grant them infinite I-frames if done right, just make sure to have the inferno brand or captain America shield or whatever the name is. For a solid like 20 more defense. And grapple to the ground, use the shield ability of your weapon, and have a couple heart statues with the campfire and honey, and heart lantern box. This DOES require to be on multiplayer but it is sooooooo good, just make sure the other player dealing damage to moon lord doesn’t have any aggro grabbing gear on otherwise moon lord will shift his focus off the tank. The only way you’d die doing this is if you’re so incredibly unlucky that the souls don’t hit you fast enough, but if for some reason the turtle armor doesn’t work out, just replace it with beetle.
If you're reading this Sockrteez, could you make a video on the Thunder Zapper? Its a pre boss magic weapon that's found in the underground desert and despite being super easy to obtain I found it to be quite powerful, especially when paired with jungle armor.
@@Human..Being... it's like a gemstone staff that went through an entire anime training arc and is capable of outdamaging every other magic weapon until post skeletron despite being a pre boss weapon found inside a sandstone chest
It's been a while since I did it, but it's possible to facetank Master Mode Moon Lord with a different setup. Full Turtle armor, Shiny Stone, Frozen Shield, Star Veil, Worm Scarf, Brain of Confusion, Master Ninja Gear, and Charm of Myths. Weapon of choice is Stardust Dragon/Cell Staff, and either the Sergeant United Shield or the Brand of the Inferno. Arena has the usual campfire, Bast, and heart lantern, a small honey pool to stay in, and the Dryad to provide her buff along with the Nurse to keep her alive. Build a small box around you to reduce on the projectiles. Summon your Stardust minion of choice, buff up, and hold right click. It's pretty much just healing and buffing when necessary as you let your minion do all the work.
btw, the full defense of the mixed armor set is 80, while the beetle armor provides 75, but the beetle armor's set bonus gives you damage resistance, of course said bonus wont help much if you are constantly hit.
I failed to dodge any of the death rays but still won easily small note: if you're doing classic and don't have enough slots for all 6 items, leave off the flesh knuckles
I'd personally swap the Hallowed Helm for the Solar Flare helm. You lose 10% melee damage and 10% melee speed and gain 16% more crit strike chance but you gain minor life Regen while both pieces have 24 defense. As well as I'd swap the Beetle Chest piece for Shinobi Infiltrator's Torso. While you lost a good chunk of defense, 6 to be precise, you gain a huge 20% to both summon damage. And another boost of 15% more melee damage over the Beetle Shell piece. That summon damage boost can help you kill bosses easier with a side summon like Terraprisma. With a Bewitching Table you can gain 2 summons for free. With this whole setup of armor as well as an Ankh Shield, Celestial Shell, Berserker Gauntlet, Frozen Shield and wings (all warding) I had 128 defense and and my Legendary Zenith did 256 damage. My Ruthless Terraprisma did 166 damage. Personally I prefer just wearing full sets as the set bonuses are usually really good but I really dislike the shield on Solar Armor, it's ugly and fucked with my vanity combo.
max dmg red. is 73% So running beetle armor with a worm scarf, with an endurance potion it will already give you 72% dmg reduction. The other item slots you can now use for dmg but if you want to go all out defensively you can run a pretty good i-frames/dodge build which is clearly op by itself
My setup face tanks master mode moonlord without buffs or an arena or any blocks And also without zenith It uses melee summoner and mage with Valhalla set
I swear to god when I was doing my master mode play through I was trying to find the best setup I could get and this is the one I ended up with, I found it out by myself. It’s pretty cool to see someone spreading the word about it tho, because in my opinion it’s the best armor to fight ML in (for melee)
Don’t worry lol, the frozen turtle shell for some reason always takes me the longest as well! Okay even with a battle potion, blood moon, and water candle with 10x spawn rate, I just got incredibly unlucky
I honistly had a bit of doubt about this utill I tryed it and oh man thank you for making this video becouse i would have never complete the game without it 😁
I've killed about 250 ice tortoises, but still haven't got a frozen turtle shell. However, they dropped 2 ice sickles (which drop chance is 1%, while shell's chance must be 2%). Seems that there something wrong with terraria's math
This setup of armor does tank the moonlord just go in more prepared with potions and buffs to avoid death if you worry about taking too many hits. This armor is great to use against the moon
I also recommend the Sergeant Shield since it can increase your defense in 20 I'm not sure about that old one's army sword that does the same thing Idk if it increases the same amount or even more But including the perfect parry to negate the damage entirely
Despite Frozen Turtle Shells having a 2% drop chance (which puts it at an average of 50 turtles to kill), I have never ever in any playthrough gotten it before 100 turtles killed.
That's because if you kill 50 turtles you only have a 63% chance of getting the shell but if you kill 100 turtles you have a 87% chance. The chance to get the shell after killing x turtles is 1 - 0.98^x
What's better, max dodge or max tank? 🤔
i think max tank.
I love getting hit by the biggest death god beam and only take 50 damage.
Also i beat expert mode for the first time with melee and all warding.

You forgot about
regeneration potion
''lettuce'' begin hahaha 0:39
I honistly had a bit of doubt about this utill I tryed it and oh man thank you for making this video becouse i would have never complete the game without it 😁
>reliably facetank *expert* moonlord
well that sets the bar very whelmingly
Ah yes, now an armor set I need to get for my friend. Because he keeps f@##ing dying first in boss fights.
You don't have to make a new world if you have the crimson, you can buy corrupt seeds from the dryad while in a graveyard biome.
the worst part is that he didn't show himself kill all the planteras in the end of the video :(
I am way too lazy to do this, but still a cool strategy.
I've killed about 250 ice tortoises, but still haven't got a frozen turtle shell. However, they dropped 2 ice sickles (which drop chance is 1%, while shell's chance must be 2%). Seems that there something wrong with terraria's math
To get good regen, try the crimson armour.
LOLOLOL
He made a video on that earlier ig
This setup of armor does tank the moonlord just go in more prepared with potions and buffs to avoid death if you worry about taking too many hits. This armor is great to use against the moon
"I'M INVINCIBLE, I CAN'T BE VINCED" 😂
WTF i just knew!!!! Your name came from the PHILOSOPHER "SOCRATES"
Those accessories are basically my entire setup and i have like all with warding.
“Facetank expert Moon Lord, or any other boss in the game”
Daytime EoL:
^An example of a person that doesnt read the latest patch notes
pretty good, what were the other items that you didnt bother including however? im curious
Stuff like dryads blessing buff, blocking with a shield etc. Handy on master mode but not needed on expert :)
@@sockrteez pretty interesting, thank you
It might me also good to have some king slime summons. It will teleport to you a deliver free hearths
Getting the frozen turtle shell is so true lol its HELL
I also recommend the Sergeant Shield since it can increase your defense in 20
I'm not sure about that old one's army sword that does the same thing
Idk if it increases the same amount or even more
But including the perfect parry to negate the damage entirely
I use the sword and explosive trap sentry to kill fishron, just build a box and parry him
can face tank any boss! (safe from daylight empress)
I did this when killing moonlord, IT WORKED 💀 from 9 months ago and didnt see this video about it
Tankyness without Regeneration is useless
Finally, daytime empress here I come!
