I've had the 2D for the past year and it has been awesome and a game changer for early spring and late fall camping. I'm not a winter camper. Planar Marine is not far from my place so I go into the shop and get stuff from them. Sergei is really helpful if you call him about the products. I like the digital thermostat control and I'm going to check it out as I have the dial. I assume you got it from Planar?
Yeah if you go to their website, you can buy them as permanent mounts or portable units like these guys. The portable is cool if you switch between RTT, hunting tent, small trailer, and truck camper. Imagination is your limit!
I’ve been trying to make part 2 of this video for two years. Part 2 is the decibel measurement of all units. Can’t get everyone in the same place at the same time. 😂
The smaller size will be fine. That’s what Rob uses for his roof top tent. With less insulation and more airflow, your unit will just run more continuously. It will be fine.
Hello, Thanks for the video! Question: Do you have any information on how long the deisel heaters typically last in (YEARS ? ) the price if this heater warrants the question. Thanks!
Well, both of my friends have had theirs for a few years now and they are still working. I think the two parts that are commonly replaced is the glow plug and the pump. Both are easily replaceable parts. So I don’t think longevity is an issue. I just ordered a Timberline system but won’t be able to make a video on it for quite awhile.
@@cleanerlakes Hi, as a follow up - how have the exhaust pipes been hold up for you? Several other youtubers I've seen with these have said after a year or two of use they split down the middle and had to be replaced.
The two units belong to my friends. I asked them both and neither are having problems with the exhaust. Both units are functioning fine. They both note that they use it while camping and don’t live full time in a van. So excessive use may cause faster wear.
@@cleanerlakes thanks! One of the UA-camrs I was recalling actually has his installed on an small camper he built out of an utility trailer. Since it only sees camping use I wasn't sure if was damage from installation and travel or something all users eventually see.
Perhaps. No complaints from my friends. I will have a follow up video to these heaters soon. People had asked about decibels. I’ll cover the exhaust as well
Oh didn’t even think of that for this video. There isn’t much. It’s a pretty steady hum. My two dive buddies who are building their vans have diesel heaters. One is this Planar and the other is the Espar. I camp next to them all the time and I hardly notice it. Stayed tuned, I will do a sound follow up when I’m with them next time.
Haa Haaa Its totally a cheap Chinese heater that's the truth, in a plastic box...im not at all, no way , seeing $1400 to $1800 in that plastic box, total scam. and if you live in the area we're they can get work done fine, but if not the whole idea being put out that it can be serviced is malarkey.
Please note the counterfeit warning on Planar website and confirm that you are buying from an authorized dealer.

I've looked at these in the past, but didn't know you could put them in a case - game changer!

Great informative video !! Looking forward to see how much sound they make.
I do have an opportunity with the entire gang soon. I’ll do a follow up for sure.
I have a gas espar heater in my unit . Love it the gas comes right out of tank , ne extra fuel to pack .
That is a slick setup! Great vid.thanks!

This is a great video. So informative. I’m getting one of these for sure.
I have been trying to make a part 2 to this video, comparing the noise level between four different units, mounted differently. Coming soon.
Simple design that works quite well. Worth $1400, not a chance. A cheap 5KW chinese heater will do the same thing for $100.
Very nice review guys.
Thanks. There is a part 2 coming at some point with four different unit for decibel comparison
@@cleanerlakes get exhaust muffler from Planar. Just stop by in their store.
I’ll tell the other guys when I see them
Do they work at low altitude?
100%
Can the external parts be installed under the van or truck? I need to 100% conceal it as I live stealth vanlife.
You can buy the Planar heaters in both the portable cases or permanent install units that’s not in the case. It’s on their website
Great informative video
Thanks 🙏
I have had nothing but good results with diesel heaters my only suggestion buy a backup glo plug and a fuel filter/
Great tip!
Thanks for the tip Rob, I do have a spare fuel filter and will go to Planar soon to get a spare glow plug
@@CassiarClan You might never need them but I got caught short my trip to far north in Sept 2019 a lesson learned Thanks
What is the reality check on the size needed for tent/car camping? I like the smaller case but don’t want to end up without enough heat

curious to have heard one running... is there much noise?

Show how you hook up to 12v power. Safe to hook to truck battery?
They both have additional deep cycle battery complete with fuse. They aren’t hooked up to the truck starter battery.

Made in Russia? No thanks.
Yeah parts is definitely a problem right now
total rip off...total rip off...lol
I did not buy them. I am just doing the interview
