    Double Nickles was a life changing album as a kid. George's drumming is extraordinary in the pocket. Its funny amongst the drumming world he doesn't get the credit he's worthy of tho to people who know, we know"

    Great story. I was at this show in San Pedro in Nov. 1985 just about a month before D. Boon's tragic untimely accident. I was 18 and had Double Nickels on vinyl. The Minutemen are of my favorite bands of all time. I saw one of the first Firehose gigs ever at BeBop records in Reseda in 1986. Thanks to George, Mike and D. for all the great music.

    Fucking greatest punk drummer ever, I got into the minutemen back in middle School in the early 90's and they changed my whole outlook on music and what it could be. Been playing guitar and bass for over twenty years now, thanks Mike, D, and George.

      He would definitely not. You’re trying pretty hard. He might not like Biden as he aged, but he would be amongst those outspoken against the orange fascist. As we all should be. It’s insane that anyone that recognizes punk ideologies and human rights would be out here speaking for the fascist piece of shit that draws on hurricane maps and sells bibles with built in American propaganda.

    George Hurley is a special drummer. Very respectful of the song and at the same time capable of dressing it in a singular way. Equipped with a rare finesse in the punk world, never gratuitous or out of context because he built the plot of the sound of the band precisely thanks to his skill on the drums, becoming an inner and necessary part of each tune. Definitely a reference.

    1st off, thanks a ton for this upload!!! Secondly(and this question is for anybody), what is the interviewer asking at around the 1:37 mark about something/someone grossing a half a billion dollars off of whatever? I listened back several times and I just can't make out what he said.

    • @BobHicks
      @BobHicks  5 років тому +8

      I ask "What do you think about JACKASS grossing almost a half a billion dollars" and then I interject no comment because I realized that if he answers and goes off it could end up bad. The point is that the song is about poverty and it's the theme to a successful Hollywood movie where most all who were involved made a lot of money and that old Mexican lady... who inspired the song probably died poor.
      Oh well, it could have been worse, like Pedro longshoreman drama on a crane song.

    So when he replied "no comment" about the amount of money that 'Jackass' has made, I'm taking that as he's made little to no royalties off of them using that song?

    • @jimmy_treekicker
      @jimmy_treekicker 5 років тому +9

      I read in an interview with Watt that he agreed to let Jackass use the song so the money could go to D. Boon's dad who had emphysema. He regards it as a way D. Boon can still help his dad even though he is dead. No idea if George got a say in the matter or not. Watt didn't mention how the rights to the the music are split up, but he does phrase it as "But that's why I let them use the song" so maybe George doesn't have any control over the rights to the Minutemen catalog. He no doubt gets royalties, but if Watt decides they go to D. Boon's family in a particular use case George may not get a say in the matter. Shit like that can get dicey.

      I think you mean 'Minutemen'?

    • @condor7810
      @condor7810 Рік тому +1

      @kikeheeb_6631: The primary "ideology" of the Minutemen was "We Jam Econo" which isn't necessarily socialist. As the young Watt said in a 1985 interview at Bard College, "You don't have to be a part of any machine, expect maybe your own." That was in reference to them creating their own music on their own terms. They lived and breathed a DIY ethos which showed initiative and entrepreneurship. But yeah, Watt was a Navy brat who grew up in Navy (public) housing so if you want to call him a socialist so be it.
