I've been wondering about some things with my laser, so this inspired me to finally go through all those checks, so huge thanks! Turned out that level/alignment was all good, but I did discover that my red pointer was off by a decent amount. Not sure how important it is to normal operation since it's never 100% accurate anyway, but something to note that you should also check when first starting up.
This is awesome info! I see no instructions in the material that this should be done in the beginning. After first 2 very small engravings & 1 Epilog canned cutting design, I could assess it was out of level. I got it level as i could with instructions. Also, I could see it was out of focus & out of beam alignment. I now know--never trust a turn-key machine. I will be tuning up camera, x/y, & beam alignment. I'm slow & careful. Is this in the right order? Learning the hard way, but getting an education! I appreciate your videos!
Leveling the bed should be first. After that I would align the mirrors and everything. Camera I would do last. The machine is great when it leaves the factory. The issue is the transit. The shipment process moves them around a lot and jostles things.
Hi Trevor. When levelling the table on a Fusion Maker - is it the same screws you loosen either side of the nylon nut? I'm finding them very difficult to loosen using the 5/32 Wiha ball end screwdrivers supplied. I've ordered a ball driver with a right angled handle to increase the torque but I don't want to do any damage.
On a Fusion there is a spot for the target on the left side after removing side panel to tighten up mirrors 1 and 2 so then you only have to worry about mirror 3 for targeting the laser inside the bed. Top left - top right and middle right usually can show if there is anything off as it creates the triangle, but to be sure go right lower then left lower. If mirrors 1 and 2 are sorted in the previous step the 3rd one is the only one to adjust, once centered I tack the screws with crazy glue to hold the screw position Bed leveling I use the back vents as a visual guide and if it is off in the back then I do what you do in all corners. A test raster and cut in all 4 corners also gives you and idea if the level is off and that the laser if firing properly. I use a piece of cardboard for the entire bed do a test in all four corner and middle. If its not cutting in the far right corner through like in the other corner then you know you may have to level the bed in the front otherwise it is within tolerance and you should be good.
Hey Trevor, just picked up my Edge 24 80 Watt over the weekend and got it up and running. I am noticing that the settings required to CUT through simple materials are a lot higher than expected for even 1/8" birch or 1/8" acrylic. All mirrors cleaned and aligned. New 2" lens installed. bed is leveled. laser is in focus. Wondering if you have seen this happen with your machine, since you are also running an edge?
@@Sandbagsims mines a 60 watt and my settings were close to 100p 20s and 15 freq for 1/8”. I’ve never heard of cutting being that low of a power. It is an 80 watt but I’d expect the cutting to be somewhere in the 75-100 power range.
@@MakerExperiment thanks. I was just going by the Epilog suggested settings, and the ones that get input from their material library. Maybe just a mistake on their part, because in the manual, I do see that for the 60 watt it shows 50s 100p. I will try again tonight with 100p.
need advice, have a dealer who is selling me a demo unit fusion edge 12, 40 watt machine that he says is like new out of the box with approx 10 hours of use, with bofa filtration for $15,500. Is that a good deal, only will give 1 year warranty. Or should i push for new out of the box?>
If you’re getting a Bofa filter on it, it sounds like a good deal. As far as the warranty goes, I’d call corporate and ask about that. They should be honest with you.
I’d have to run back through it again to remember off hand to be honest. I don’t recall off the top of my head. I’ll try to take a look when I get a chance.
I’d have to dig into the settings again. I honestly forget and the machine isn’t in front of me. I’ll note it as a question and see if I can find the answer.
Hey Trevor. Any suggestions on why the lens on my fusion is getting dirty super fast after it has been cleaned and I am running air assis the whole time? I have to constantly clean and its actually damaging my lens cause its getting scratched from me constatly cleaning
@MakerExperiment what's your setting suggestion for etching the cable tag when you want the text to be smooth and dark text. I have the fiber focus at 0.030 speed at 20, resolution at 1200, power at 100 or 90? This setting the letters appear to be white and not dark
What tips do you have?

Will Knoll the red dot pointer and mirror alignment go hand in hand. It’s definitely something you should check.

Definitely a good idea to do that regularly.

As far as I’m aware, yes. From the factory, they may be tough to loosen.

Tons of great information in this one!
Ethan Carter Designs thank you Ethan!
Great stuff Trevor. Definitely checking the level of mine after watching this video.
Can the auto focus also be thrown out?
TheAlteredState - Laser Cutting & Engraving yes. You’d have to recalibrate auto focus as well.
Thanks Trevor great information and love the detail.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mr. J'S WORKSHOP thank you!
Helpful indeed
I’m glad it was helpful.
hi Trevor, please do a video for table leveling on the fusion pro 36..plssss
I don’t have the pro 36 but I can try doing one on my pro 48 once I’m set back up again.

I got them from Epilog but I think you can get them at JP Plus.

How do you check and adjust the auto focus on a Fusion Edge?
I’d have to run back through it again to remember off hand to be honest. I don’t recall off the top of my head. I’ll try to take a look when I get a chance.
