He is. Have you met him? I was lucky enough to meet him when I little.he is such a sweetheart. So soft spoken. And to see him interact with fans/ interviewers is fantastic. Love him
Robert and I shot this interview in the 'Die Hard' building (Fox Plaza) back around the summer of 1989. Thanks for watching as this was one of my favorite interviews that I had done with him and a great experience.
Robert is the man! One of the most fantastic actors on the planet! So underrated, deserves even more work than he gets. He's also a fantastic storyteller and just an all around great guy. Not only does he play the best Horror character ever made but he's the best horror movie actor of all time.
I'm very happy Robert is living a good life. The three times I was lucky enough to sit down with him for some great interviews and talk afterwards, I can tell you he is a lucky man for many reasons. Other then being adored by his fans for his work, he is one of the few actors out of millions who has been able to make a very comfortable living and career for himself. Also, one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet or work with.
He really deserved more opportunities. Freddy is great, but I wish he could have done more films in different genres , with meatier roles. More serious dramas or a good comedy.
robert englund played both roles. he played nerdy shy roles like willy in V and in The Great Smokey Roadblock and then he started playing perverted psycho roles.
He is the best and I owe him much more then he realizes. Those few interviews that he was always so kind enough to grant me helped forward my career enormously. I can only hope that I can repay him in some way.
He has had so many comparisons to so many people that it amazes me. Though I think your very spot on with yours. Thanks for the comments and watching the interview. It's nice to see all these years later, people still watch. I hope you enjoyed it.
Hahaha when I was younger I was a huge Alice In Chains/Layne Staley fan, and if I saw this interview back then I wouldn't have been so terrified of him! :( hahaha
hands down i dont care if robert englund ever or never makes another movie....the character freddy krueger will go down in history and he will forever be the best horror villian ever all thanks to robert englund #theboygotskillz
Robert Englund, the man who made Freddy Krueger Legendary. I do not think any other actor could've done it like he did, could've played that character like he did. He was the chosen one ;) Cool guy too. I liked this interview.
AMAZING!!!! Freddy continues to be my all time favorite horror movie villian. Robert Englund gives this character such life. I watched this great Wes Craven interview where he explains how originally he was going to be casting a much older man for the role of Freddy. Like 70 years old. Freddy was a character Wes created after being scared to death by a very old creepy man when he was just a small child like 5 or 6. In the interview he talks about how when he was home as a small boy with his mother and was looking out his window this man was walking down the street and stopped right in front of his house and was staring straight at him. The man then started walking to his front door and tried coming into his house but the door was locked, Wes then ran to his mother crying but when the mother came to check the creepy man was already gone. This is where Wes Craven created Freddy Krueger from. So when casting A Nightmare on Elm Street he kept casting these very old men like the one that scared him as a child but he realized it just didnt work for what he envisioned for the film. And he said after he saw Robert Englund audition he knew he just had to be Freddy. I believe Robert was 34 at the time of the first Nightmare. Pretty awesome story. I love all the Freddy films. I got the pleasure of meeting Mr. Englund at a couple of conventions as well. He is really funny and nice to talk to in person. Great guy.
You really have got some great details that I had no idea of. I was able to take off from high school back then and go to see the third one. After being able to sit down with Robert three different times, he is my favorite and most popular interview. It really means a lot to me that you enjoyed this interview and made such great comments.
Barry Roskin Blake That is so awesome you were in high school when dream warriors came out. A Nightmare on elm street, Dream Warriors, and Dream Master are my top favorite freddy films. I always wished I was a teenager or in my early 20's in the 80s opposed to being born in 83' The 80s is my favorite decade, music, movies, everything was so well made during this era. What a pleasure it must of been interviewing him. I must of watched these interviews with him you posted 6 times already lol job well done :)
+yummyjen Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are tons of terribly made, low quality movies from made in the '80s! And although I love lots of music from the '80s, that decade also produced some of the cheesiest shit ever recorded. It seems to me you are seeing that time period through a sugar coated lense. Just saying...
dragonsky799 geez tell me how u really feel lol you're not bursting anyones bubble sweetie. I am free to like whatever I wanna like from whatever decade I choose. As bitter as you sound you are entitled to your OPINIONS, which is exactly what they are. And I am entitled to mine, thanks for the tip though buddy lol
I'm not bitter shnookums, and I'm glad I'm not bursting your bubble either, because if you really can't laugh at or acknowledge the spandexed, neon colored, plastic cheesiness that decade is known for, I would feel really sorry for you. By the way, I never said I didn't like the '80s. There are tons of movies and music that I adore from that time period, but saying "everything was so well made" during that era is simply laughable.
He was definitely scary, but I always felt there was a sensuous, sexy vibe to Freddy Krueger and seeing Robert England in this interview, it's easy to see why.🥰
sure he was. robert englund turned 40 in 1987, when the 3rd movie was released, so obviously he's in his 40s here. he looked so young for so long time, but suddenly he aged a lot and now looks older.
utubenotebanco yea my mistake he talked about nightmare 5.any way i thought its an interview about nightmare 1 he says at 1:42 that he was 34 when he played nightmare 1, and he was 37 bacouse he born at 1947.
i like robert englund . he always plays the evil characters amazingly . i saw him in chuck and my reaction wanted to be "omg omg omg" but instead it was "huh hes in this"
Robert is such a great and diverse actor. Thanks for taking the time to watch the interview and comment. I love hearing from Robert Englund fans. We must keep people in the know about his talents. Maybe next time they will cast him in the series reboot.
i love this actor, hes such a nice guy and he plays somebdy so evil so well. i wouldnt be able to do what he does, especially sitting in makeup for three hours. both the actor and the character are amazing. *bow to robert*
Robert is not only a great actor but a terrific person. I had the great pleasure of interviewing him three times over the years. Most people don't remember that he actually was known for the nice guy roles after he stared as the good alien in 'V'. Thanks for watching and taking the time to watch this.
Robert u we the best Freddy ever I was born n 1985 and have seen every freddy growing up.... freddy is my all time favorite character. ..I remember watching it n 3d with my mom...
One of the most decent guys out there and a pleasure to work with. Check out his performance in the original Serie ‘V’ for a totally alternate performance. You’ll love it.
@@HollywoodRequest thanks I actually rmbr seeing a few episodes as reruns on TV in the mid or late 1980s but I just found out that Englund was in the series 😁
Robert Englund, speaking as Freddy without any make-up, just made me love him that much more. I've only ever seen him in V and the first 5 NoES films, but I admire his dedication to his craft. I actually think character actors are way more fun to watch onscreen because they embody their roles. #TEAMFREDDYKRUEGERFOREVER
Actually, I did not tape this off TV. I was lucky enough to be the one doing the interview. This is Barry Roskin Blake of the old show "Inside Entertainment" and I have been so fortunate to have interviewed Robert three times in the last twenty years. The first one being at his home up in the hills. It's not the greatest video quality but sort of fun. If any of you want, I can post it in the next couple of days. Thanks for watching and continuing to be his fan.
He is also such a great guy to work with. He stayed after the interview for my reversals. As a actor I can tell you that that is a true pro. I love this guy. My interviews with him go back almost thirty years. I am so proud and glad you took the time to enjoy watching it.
It should be posted today. Part one of a 44 minute interview. It was one of his earliest taken with him in Hollywood Hills. It was really fun and we both were really young. Great interview but I am biased..
it's a pity robert englund didn't have a great career like his contemporary actors like arnold schwarzenegger, susan sarandon, jeff bridges, sally field and richard gere (who he worked with during his first movies).
Phoenix I wouldn't think so. He got all his recognition first for having starred V, and then for havig played freddy krueger for 10 years. and i think that character absorbed the person so much, he couldn't do sucessful movies ever since. he acted in many non-anoes movies, yes, but they were all flops. it's a pity, but that's the way things are, in my opinion. i love robert and i wish things had been better for him. plus he's so funny. luckily he must have earned a lot of money playing freddy, don't you think so?
utubenotebanco Robert Englund has only played Freddy Krueger 8 times (6 ANOES, Freddy Vs Jason, Freddy's Nightmares). He has over 150+ movies in his filmography and he is still acting today. He is most famous for playing Freddy but he is a versatile actor. I have seen half of his movies and I enjoy his work. He's a fine man. Sally Field and Richard Gere didn't have better careers, in my opinion.
Phoenix the movies he did were all flops, come on. i've seen a couple of his non-anoes movies and they were terrible. i mean: "python", "eaten alive" (a pre-anoes movie), "tobe hooper's night terrors", "zombie strippers", etc. all flops and horrible movies.
utubenotebanco Your definition of a successful career is different from mine. Making movies in your late 60's, traveling the US and the world to do conventions and interviews to me is successful plus he is coming out with like 5 movies in 2015. What was the last thing Sally Field was in that was relevant? Lincoln in 2012. Richard Gere? LOL. Don't even get me started. He has a nice start in the 80s and he peaked with Pretty Woman (1990). He hasn't done anything significant sense. Would you consider Christopher Lee a flop? A man that is 95 years old and still making movies but the must successful movies he has done are Lord of the Rings. He has done 200+ movies and many of them were flops too but he has acted since 1940. Robert Englund has been acting since the 1960's.
That's where I first saw him as a kid. He's such a great guy to work with on camera as well as off. This was such a fun interview to do and I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
The winner who finally figured it out. That is the correct answer and I could not even guess. Sort of ironic since I did the interview! Excellent Answer. This was my third interview with Robert. I have located two and am trying to find the third.
Freddy then Michael. I used to know the producer of the Halloween series before he tragically died. After that they took Michael Meyers in a very different direction.
Will have it up by end of week. You have my word on it. I hope you like it. Thanks... I only wish I could share some of the stories I have about Robert off camera. They are all good and paint him as the great guy that he is. Just so much fun and things that I will remember forever. With well over 500 celebs that I have worked with or interviewed, I must say that Robert Englund will always be my favorite. Three times truly was a charm and a honor.
I honestly couldn't watch scary movies. Too terrified!! Then I saw him on V, and just thought "what a great guy"! It was such a big transformation. That helped me not be so terrified of Freddy, but.... he still does such a great job at Freddy, that...yikes!! Anyway, I love seeing him out of make up. You can see the passion he has for his work, the craft and the people around him. If anyone happens to run into him in person, give him a big hug for me.
I have had the honor of sitting down with Mr. Englund for various interviews three times. My favorite time spend with him was during this interview that took place in what has become known in Hollywood as the Die Hard building. He is truly a very humble and terrific guy. Especially considering the hours of makeup he used to have to go through and all those early call times. Thanks for your comments and I hope you enjoyed the Freddy interviews I have posted from my past.
I actually like what Jack Earle Harley did with the role. It was interesting how he portrayed human Freddy as a weasel of a man rather than a sinister creeper. It made the backstory new again. If it wasn't treated as a dumb remake, but rather a way of introducing Robert Englund's character to a fresh crowd and paying tribute to the genre, it would have been fun. It's a pain to watch a rehashed version of a classic, and considering that the real Freddy is alive and well, there's no need for that.
He was 42 here! Looks more like 27 or so.
Wow 42, i though he was so much younger here, like u said, i thought he was in his 20s 'cos now he's gone grey now. How old is he now?
Really? He looks 30 lmao
LGBTvideos he's 67 now and looks old. and we cannot trust in his hair going grey, because he probably dyed it for a long time, so you never know.
According to his birthday listed on IMDB he just turned 70 June 3rd this year. He aged quite well.
Robert Englund is one of the nicest people ever

It is so strange to think this cute, congenial, friendly guy was Freddie and Erik Destler. So talented 😍

Indeed. Him, Kane Hodder, Tobin Bell, Warwick Davis...
The same with IT remake

He was great as Willie in "V" as well. Robert Englund rocks!
OH MY GOD! Once he went into krueger mode at the end..wow..just amazing! my reaction---> O.O.. :O.. :D Love robert englund, great interview :)
Freddy then Michael.
I used to know the producer of the Halloween series before he tragically died. After that they took Michael Meyers in a very different direction.
He's the only Freddy
Will have it up by end of week. You have my word on it. I hope you like it. Thanks...
I only wish I could share some of the stories I have about Robert off camera. They are all good and paint him as the great guy that he is. Just so much fun and things that I will remember forever. With well over 500 celebs that I have worked with or interviewed, I must say that Robert Englund will always be my favorite. Three times truly was a charm and a honor.
they couldn't have picked a better freddy. much respect mr. englund
Robert Englund seems like a really dedicated actor. Very insightful too. Cool guy!
I loved him in "V"..."Mousey, oh, Mousey! Come here Mousey!"
Short but great interview. Robert is a genius!
He was great in 'V' though as the good guy. It's amazing how he went from the good guy in casting to nothing but Freddy. Yet he is the absolute best.
Lord he reminds me of Layne Staley lol
Love them both
I actually like what Jack Earle Harley did with the role.
Swear to God he looks like Layne Stayley in this clip. Straight up. Wow.
Ragan Tate : strangely enough, your not the first person to say that. How funny. Thanks for taking the time to watch and I hope you enjoyed it.
Damn this man is timeless!!!!
Btw, this is probably when he was in his early 40s.. He looks great!
I love Robert Englund but I’d fucking die without Myers.
