I'm restoring a '72 Gran Torino Sport that was my father's. I'd like to keep it as original as I can, but certain technologies have advanced to where it makes sense to do a few upgrades, brakes, lighting and such. Still, overall, it will look pretty stock. I'm enjoying the journey...just started last month and am working on it daily as I am retired. Will look forward to seeing your work on this beauty.
Back in 1976 I had a 70 MUSTANG fastback and a 1966 Chevelle and a friend had a 1971 TORINO GT sport roof with a 429 4 sp. orange with Lazer stripes!!! Black interior with a bench seat!!! All original except dual pipes !!! His DAD paid 800 dollars for it!!! I really liked that car!!! It had good top end performance!!! After several years the car went through Hell!!! It still was driven but was in rough shape!!! I have been wanting one !!! Of course a nice one isn't cheap!!!!
@summerstormtrooper1906 mine is a 4 wheel drum I'm converting to 71 mustang disc only because I want to be able to use my factory Kelsey Hayes wheels. There are a lot of options out there.
@@flatbrokegarage you can? How?, I need all of the options, beacuse in this country we don't get any options for old American cars, that's why I have to be careful with what I buy, im from South American, and yeah I can't Return things, and with the extra charge for shiping damm... Its complicated, but it's the only way so I have to find stuff by my self in the Internet, thks for the comment!
@summerstormtrooper1906 you might be able to keep you spindles and do a bolt on disc conversion. I can ask some of my buddies. They have tried different ones. You also have to look for availability of parts when you need them. Some of these kits use late model Toyota parts. I have a video up with information on disc brake swapping my 64 Cyclone.
The '70-'71 Torino is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. As an amateur photographer I've taken pictures of them at many car shows and it looks good from any angle. Whatever you do with it, it will look amazing when you are finished. I will look forward to all of your future videos to follow your progress. If you are not already a member you should join the Fairlane Club of America where you can get advice from other members about where to find parts, how to repair various components and so on. I'm a member and the club has helped enormously in restoring my '69 Fairlane.
It's good that you have a little shop manager in there pointing out all the flaws and safety issues. You're lucky to have his knowledge and experience there to guide you. I look forward to your videos on this car.
I know he’s now 5 months OLDER, but your sons absolutely adorable!! He’s either definitely going to be mechanican for a livin when he’s older,or wrenchin on his and his family’s vehicles when they need something done on theirs. Beautiful car!! God bless~
You wouldn’t believe what just the tail light panel is worth. That car built back original with the cobra- jet engine would be worth a fortune. Excellent buy even in the shape it’s in.
Wow, my mom still has one a 4 door it’s been in her garage since I was a kid I’m 56 now it’s still there. She’s 77. I remember the day they brought it home. Cool video I’m gonna send it to my mom so she can watch this. She’s had people offer her money for it and she won’t sell it.😊👍 you don’t see these cars every day
I know this comment in a little late but before you cut out the floor watch powernation on youtube i think they have an episode where they cut a floor out. Also i cant wait to watch this build keep up the good work
Spacers for the back wheels of the golf cart, good luck... I put ski spreaders (instant IFS) on my Polaris Cobra, that lasted about a day before I bent a spindle.
That's a 71 grill if it's split, 70-71 Torino GT* have my favorite rear end of all time with the full bar light and the metal black trim piece. It is my dream car to own some day, and last time I was at the iola car show in Wisconsin, I bought the rear bar tail light from one.
Always liked the lines, might as well make it nice. A little time now, will give you years of fun, not to mention please you wife with "Her" car, lol. & Congrats too ! Thanx !
Stock floor pan. Custom will need metal fabrication tools. I would say x brace the interior before cutting the floor......then I saw the cross-member. 😀 I'd recommend making sure the body is as square as you can get it before welding in the pan or you're going to have issues with gaps around the doors etc. Can do done at home, but it's time consuming, or you could pay a body shop with a jig to clamp it up and weld the floor pan square. Take a look a the vTuned channel. He's got a car body background and tried to do a custom chassis/floor on a mustang (possibly not the best example, but it shows it's not straight forward). Good luck ma' man!
I am looking forward to the series of videos on this car I am curious to see your vision become a reality. that will be a badass car when you get done I am sure of that
Great project car. I have a 70 Torino GT myself. Yours is also a 70, but the grille you have is from a 71. It will fit, but be prepared for the keyboard warriors to try to correct you. The 70 and 71 Torinos didn’t come with 460s, but you could get them with a 429 which is the same engine family, so the 460 will fit. You were talking about ditching the console, but those are very sought after by Torino owners, just the trim plate is worth a lot. Just thought I’d share some info that I’ve learned in the several years I’ve owned my Torino. Good luck with the project and I look forward to future updates.
That is a sweet ride! I am a huge Torino fan. I need a 70 or 71. But I am a 72 Gran Torino freak. I look forward to watching your build Brother. And I am a new subscriber.
I don't wanna sound like everybody else but Thank God you ain't putting an LS in it. With the shear weight of a 385 block, and what you'll spend on the up grades, the Godzilla with a 6r80 would be a way better choice. But the time you do the machine work, get a bottom end, a decent set of heads, make the C6 actually hold decent out put, you'll be right about what the Godzilla n 6r will cost. Plus it'll be a lot easier to tune it. You've done enough work that you should already know what's first. All of the rust is your FIRST stop. Make it solid for passengers. The rear end should be a 9 in so you're set there. All of the rest is basics.Go drag Kevin to do some work. He'll be able to be a real assett.
Love seeing what you're up to. I'm the same way with personalizing projects. Would be cool if you could make your own floor. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this car!🔧🔑
but in all seriousness, the complete Auto Metal Direct floor pans (p/n 400-8466 fits most 66-71 Fairlane/Comet/Torino/Montego/Cyclone models except wagons) are only $440 for this thing from anywhere (Summit, Mac's, whatever) so get the wiring and brake/fuel lines out of the way and cut the bulk of the center out of it, then when the part arrives you can do more precise measurements around the edges where it attaches to the rockers/cowl/back seat base
Well there you go, learn something everyday. I'm from Australia and it seems to be that the Aussie ford XA, XB and XC Falcon coupe are based on the Torino GT. Same body, different interior, front and rear end.
I’m one of many who would say do a factory oem floor pan replacement because it will easily be fitted. I would also do a marti report to confirm the year. Not too many of these cars came with the 429 Super Cobra Jet engine so this would be a great car to make a tribute 429 SCJ drag pack and make it look like the real car, the average joe shmo will have no idea it’s not a real SCJ car. I’d paint it a new coat of it’s factory original color. Make sure you desguise the 460 as a SCJ engine
X support for the doors, and the whole inside when you cut the floor out, or it won't be straight when you put the new floor in! Pans are not hard get that motor & trans in first. My dad had a 1970 gt torino with a built 390 and mini tub, he ended up trading it for a 1970 ford ranger xlt 4x4 with a 429 cobra jet and 38 inch ground hawgs, we ended up using it for our chipper truck lodging for 20 yrs
Find a crown vic or grand marquee frame to put under the body. And get a stock floor plan it'll save you a lot of time and headaches especially if you don't want to spend alot on fabrication tools
Is it possible that you could give me the last 3 digits of the VIN of the Torino. My dad bought a car exact to this one brand new. They're kinda rare to find white with blue laser stripes. Thanks Jay.
I always enjoy watching a car go from 0 to 100 !!! looking forward to seeing the progress of the good the bad and the ugly on this of old classic Ford. 🥽
Just been on the back burner unfortunately as other projects have come up. Was looking to have another guy help me with cutting the floor out and our schedules just haven’t aligned yet
I don't rightly know what to say...I have been restoring these cars for almost 40 years and know every part, nut, and bolt. These GT's were not common when they were new! Honestly, the fate of this car scares me. For the love of creatures big and small please buy all of the original shop manuals and documentation and learn about it all before you go all apesh!t and tare up an actual rare part .
Nice project car. I must also say, as a father myself, your son's interest in the car is adorable dude. Just badass. I look forward to the coming videos
i'm just cheap hill billE lol probley wrong but floor/frame i'd weld new floor over whats aready there throw carpet over it done ready for redneck car shows lol

I'm in the process woth my 71 same as you. I used Clasic 2 Current floors. They are just like factory. Just subscribed
Hey man I have one too, you now more about the brakes system and stuff? Im not finding a video about it, I don't want to buy the wrong kit

Appreciate the info, I’ll have to check that club out! Thanks
I always liked the 70! Didn't like the shrunk 71-72 front nose style
And of course the 68-69 torinos!!💗💗
I bought one in 1970 was a great car.

Congrats on the birth of your daughter!
Pretty solid looking 70s torino You got there Phoenix
DD speed shop master of full floor replacement well worth the effect
I know he’s now 5 months OLDER, but your sons absolutely adorable!! He’s either definitely going to be mechanican for a livin when he’s older,or wrenchin on his and his family’s vehicles when they need something done on theirs. Beautiful car!!

Hello bud went will part 2 be coming out. Can’t wait 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You wouldn’t believe what just the tail light panel is worth. That car built back original with the cobra- jet engine would be worth a fortune. Excellent buy even in the shape it’s in.
Dude.....that kid is adorable
AWESOME VIDEO!!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MORE OF THIS BUILD!!
Beautiful car the 71 Torino
Do a factory floor replacement, weld in cross bracing to hold the car true.
I’m watching because of Junkyard Digs.
Lots of plans look forward to more on the grand torino Phoenix
Congrats🐣

Looks way better with the spacers on the golf cart
I had a 70 GT when I was 17 years old,351 Cleveland C 6 auto,, I miss that car seeing yours,it was the same green as the front clip on yours
Love finding other Torino Builds on here. Couldnt find any when i got the car last year
Not many of them out there!
Congratulations Friday the 13th on your daughter being born! Subscribers from Junkyard Digs a new subscriber to your channel now!
Heyvu wonna see ell the torino I'll buy it rite now haven't seen one for sale in forever
Congrats on your daughter being born (I heard it on Kevin's channel)! Lucky 13 ♡
I can't find a second video. Did you stop the project.

I always lower one back tire down really low so when you stop it usually stops lol
Stock floor pan. Custom will need metal fabrication tools.

Kevin mentioned it on his channel. That explains why you haven’t posted a new video in a while!
He Nix'd another one 👍
Looking forward to this project,Phoenix!
I myself have a 1970 torino 351c and its a beauty but rough. Was a manual car but has the c6 auto 4v heads holley 750 and cam. Almost done with it
Kevin with JYD told us you and your wife have a new baby girl as of Friday 13. Congrats....God bless all.

Love the car, great that the little one is so into it. Start by just putting the engine in before you tair it down. You will have it out many times
I agree, header clearance is going to be my biggest battle I think just by looking at it
That is a sweet ride! I am a huge Torino fan. I need a 70 or 71. But I am a 72 Gran Torino freak. I look forward to watching your build Brother. And I am a new subscriber.
Phoenix, you need a Towrolla to move your cars about😁
My mom bought a brand new one and she actually let me drive it to high school a few times.
Before you cut out the floor you need to weld support bars in the front and rear

This puppy’s rough man best of luck I have a 72 fastback I’ve had for 12 years 450 hp 351w C6 3.89’s
I think I would have given Kevin a call, to help get it in the garage.
Body swap it onto a crown Vic, leave it mismatched and beat, put racing stickers on it! I think that’d pretty cool
Yes the cart needs a fmf or equivalent
Your doing good..all I can do is watch now. But boy.. when I did rip and strip a car it sure was fun. Demo derby anyone?
Can you make a video of the brakes system next?
It would be great to see this car saved and looking decent. Put some of you into it and stop it going the junk yard. 2x👍
amd has the sheetmetal for it .thanks

You gotta start somewhere.
I can't believe that the wheel came right off lol now it's 3 wheeler not a 4 wheeler lol 🤣
Is it possible that you could give me the last 3 digits of the VIN of the Torino. My dad bought a car exact to this one brand new. They're kinda rare to find white with blue laser stripes. Thanks Jay.
Did you finish it?
Do you ever ride the cat on the four wheeler?
love the videos but disappointed that I spent half the video watching other stuff not working on the Torino.
Your going build her up and we’re yall finding these cool cars Kevin just got an mustang 2 then you got this I’m just asking brother
Brace everything up and order a floor would be your best bet.
If you decide to not use the console i would be interested in possibly buying it.
Where's part 2
Kevin says to congratulate your wife and you on the birth of your daughter on 13 January 2023
Torino's are way cooler than Mustangs.
The body lines are a lot like the Australian Falcon XB around that rear side window
I always enjoy watching a car go from 0 to 100 !!! looking forward to seeing the progress of the good the bad and the ugly on this of old classic Ford. 🥽
I vote fully gut
Do frame connectors
where’s the limo been 😂
Oh just waiting for the right moment to make an appearance again lol
13:32 all she needs is some new old stock replacement sheet metal. Approximately 33 pre-1996 Oklahoma license plates should be enough.
Lol license plates were in the original plan but yea going with a full replacement floor
On second thought, maybe it was a good thing you couldn’t get the go kart above 15% throttle…😮
No Gran Torino in 1970-1971. First Gran Torino was 1972. Totally different car.
I would say ordering a new factory replacement floor will be the better and more efficient option
@travisdrum6760, NO available from FORD.
Cost more to restore than it will be worth.
So part 1 was 11 months ago and nothing after that ?????
A year ago and still no follow up video.....
Awesome build, but it's not a grand torino. Grand torino started in 72. Its a torino gt.
why not turn that go cart into a 3 weeier weld a motorbike front end on it just an idea
I will buy the stock console if you don't want to use it
Whatever happened to this car ?
Just been on the back burner unfortunately as other projects have come up. Was looking to have another guy help me with cutting the floor out and our schedules just haven’t aligned yet
460 is a 385 series engine NOT a big block/ that's gm an dodge term
Stock is beautiful don't ruin that poor car.
That cosworth is worse😂
