To be honest, I really like extramarital affairs. As a bachelor, I would say that extramarital affairs should be legalized. Forced marriages absolutely is not the issue. Countries with love marriages create majority of social problems and weak families. The bs that is being fed to us that love marriage is good but arranged is bad, is a failed western concept. Your parents look for a good partner both character and status over you looking at only looks. Ultimately almost everyone I know who has had an arranged marriages always had a choice, only selection was done by parents.

Extra marital affairs are nothing new in india. But Influence of western culture has given a rise in these cases.
Obviously the toxic people here will blame Bollywood but the psychological effects of your childhood is the most important reason. Also polyamorus couples is not a new concept in India but it was stigmatised in late medival and modern India. This was later unstigmatised after the economic reforms of 91. Unfortunately this destigmatisation was only restricted to some rich people in cities. Open marriages are still a stigma in poor urban and most rural areas of India.
And why is stigma unfortunate? Is cheating/multiple partners even ethical or a good moral practice? A lot of things are stigmatized because they're wrong
Reason - Soft influencing by Social Media & lack of communication in relationships. In india people get way too connected with fictional characters of bollywood movies, K - drama, etc & get easily influenced by them.
Credit goes to Bollywood and OTT series and more importantly decline in Moral values. Hindus in India are moving away from religion, thanks to western capitalism.

Then petition was filed before Supreme Court to either make it punishable for both men and women or make it not punishable for women as well like men. Then Supreme court made it not punishable for women like men but can be a reason for divorce.
First go and read the Supreme Court judgment then comment... The law on adultery earlier made the wife the "property" of the husband.

It is majorly because of our judiciary... Adultery has been abolished by our judiciary. Now a wife can sleep with any guy outside of marriage and then file a false 498 case on her husband and enjoy lifetime of alimony and maintenance.
