    I am done with my "pulling back on a snaffle" argument. But, I will say that you are very brave for addressing it. Very few trainers will .

      Right? I galloped racehorses at track for 9 years and have rehabbed a lot of OTTB and OTQH.
      All those pull both reins back same time snaffle people need to go gallop a race horse one time to make believers out of them that it doesn't work 😂

    Brett thanks for speaking of the offset hands. That is really helpfull to know how that can help in not pulling on both reins at the same time.

    Had honestly never really given it much thought, but boy that makes a lot of sense. I was taught the pull back and jiggle style, but just never quite felt right to me. Love it, thank you!

    Do you rope of horses when there in snaffle or hackamore? Hard to work reins independently when holding them in one hand with while managing a hand full of coils.?

    Hey Brett, loved the video and it was good to watch this along with your other hackamore and bosal tips. Had a quick question about timing up with the feet for this exercise in the bosal. When you’re working here, are you focused on bumping + releasing in time with each individual foot coming off the ground, or are you bumping + releasing to create the signal of rotation in his nose band, then releasing when you feel his movement get correct?
    Thanks for keeping up with these videos. Sorry if you’d previously answered in another video I missed.

      Im bumping to rotate the nose button and realeasing when the horse moves correctly.

    Ive ridden and hungout with some guys that are straight up hands...With that being said, theyll tell you that the hackamore is all bluff. If you pull on both reins and a horse figures out that he can pull back or brace against you, its over. Skip the hackamore and better luck with a snaffle, try not to pull back and let him win there as well. If it keeps happening, just make a barrel horse out of it and move on.

    • @HorsemanshipAsAnArt
      @HorsemanshipAsAnArt  3 місяці тому +2

      yeah a lot of guys skip the hackamore and the handle on there horse shows it. Iv been around a couple handy guys myself and they say its only a bluff if you quit pulling.

    We need guidance
    We’re working with a fella in Graford Tx up by Dallas presently, but thought we’d check with you as well

    How’s your program working out down there?
    Any older horses for sale?
    Am I barking up the wrong tree thinking you could help us in contact with some you trust to head us in right direction?
    I don’t know the bloodlines we should stead clear of as roper possibilities. Don’t want the maintenance of training a 3/4 yr old……or time it takes to do properly
    Sooo
    Maybe you could advise us of bloodlines to atleast not buy?
    Do u still own Paint?

    What is your opinion of "sawing" the reins to get the horse to put his head down? What would you do instead?

    • @HorsemanshipAsAnArt
      @HorsemanshipAsAnArt  3 місяці тому +3

      yeah im not a big fan, I bump one side then the other just like im doing here. If you have to put the head down manually with the bit then you have a lot of other issues like balance and strength that need addressed. My horses lower the head off my leg not my hand.

    What is this horse learning?
    This is not cruel, the horse in not upset in anyway but I don't know what you are teaching him.

    • @HorsemanshipAsAnArt
      @HorsemanshipAsAnArt  3 місяці тому +3

      Which part? The backing out the gate part? He is learning to back up better and faster because he is backing to the barn and because I always back out the gate they don't learn to be gate sour. You can't just teach them something and move on, you have to refine it. The horse learns pretty much everything he needs to know in the first ten rides, the rest of his life is refinement.

    little patience and time to let the horse find the give, and His release to the pressure, so he can understand what you are asking him to do, a horse will seek the release of pressure and comfort quickly. where is his release to the pressure of the bit , rewarding him?. you are not consistent , jerking , repeatedly, with no dwell time for doing the right thing... like this he can never win, no cosistency is confusing to a horse. I hope for the Horses' sake , people don't take your training methods too seriously

      Have you ever actually used a hackamore? From your comment I can tell that if you have actually ever seen one then you have certainly not used one very much. A hackamore only works with a bump, a sustained pull and waiting for the horse to give will ruin the horse in the hackamore. The horse needs about a half a second of dwell time as a reward to learn, this is proven I don't care what your Grandpa or the trainer down the road said. I can promise you without a doubt that I am far more consistent than any one you have ever ridden with, one of the perks of the autistic spectrum is that I do things the same way every time without trying. I appreciate your comment but I am afraid that you are simply not sophisticated enough in your riding and training to understand what is going on here.
