I'm not Asian, but coming from a poor community I've learned to repair almost everything, the satisfaction you get out of every project and seen the item get a new lease of life is hard to match. I wish I could get to your age doing the same thing you do Grandpa 😁 💚
This video filled me with nostalgia. I myself am about that age, and this older man reminded me of my grandfather. He lived thousands of kilometers away, was of a different race and culture, but he could also repair anything with a minimum of tools, "on his knee." My respect to Grandpa Amu.
i wish i knew this guy…i feel like we were cut from the same cloth. im often told that i would be easier, faster, or way less hassle to just purchase a replacement. especially since it is really affordable and readily available. but something deep down compels me to try to repair it, sometimes even if the materials used would out cost the thing brand new. it brings my soul some comfort to know that there are others out there that just dont see garbage when something isn’t functioning as expected…thank you
I knew Grandpa Amu would make it better than it ever was. At first I thought it was a window shutter but the ending explained what he meant by the wasting of flour. It is nice that he earned a delicious meal in gratitude for his hard work!
Grandpa Amu took what was a very simple project, but fixed it in a very simple yet unconventional way common to Yeye Amu. Most people I've seen use an epoxy in such cases, but he was able to fix it with no chemical agents and relatively no new materials. Lol and he got a nice bowl of steamed buns for his efforts too.
@@roseymalino9855 My comments weren't about the benefits or lack thereof in using an epoxy, but in regard to Grandpa Amu's innovation and knowledge of wood joinery.
I have finally found the right channel for me. All hand tools, skill, and patience with no need for expensive machinery. Thank you, Grandpa Amu for the teaching and the saving me money.
Ohh, A-maz-ing!!! (omg).. Such a true master. You took the complicated process of repairing her loved instrument and brought it back to life. And you made it look so easy. That was so fun to watch, thankyou Grandpa Amu.
There's only one thing I like more than watching you work and that's food seeing those steam buns reminded me of the time I had a baked bun with pork and dark sauce in the middle it was so delicious it's been over 40 years and I still can't find them in any restaurant
In addition to the amazing repair, I want to call out the brilliant design of that panel. The tapered opposing cross pieces that lock the planks tightly together with no glue, no dowels, no metal fasteners of any kind. Brilliant!
This type of joints is “榫卯” tenon-and-mortise, thousands years old technique, myth said it was invented by LuBan, architect from BC 500 plus year. It is the same LuBan (LuBan Lock) you may find in this channel. That's the reason why all Chinese smiths call LuBan their SiFu.

Thing to take away are his techniques. Modern world plug holes/gaps with glue and saw dust, Grandpa show shows us the right way, jam in a wedge and cut it flush! Easier and no glue/toxins!
Greetings from Canada, you are an amazing craftsman. Have you ever considered publishing a book on your carpentry methods? I'm sure it would be well received throughout the world.
I just hope everything is as it seems. I'm his age and can build about anything from wood , plus a bit of carving. Enjoy it greatly but dang there isn't a part of my body that doesn't hurt from a hard life of building. I know this man has done the same. I wouldn't change to much of my life . I just hope you feel the same. Great videos . I hope you live a good life too. Good luck with the rest of it and bless you and yours.

I'm from Ukraine and repair most things which are broken. But I'm not poor. It's interesting to repair something by my own hands.

Epoxy is not food safe. There is a kind of non toxic epoxy used medically, and such.
