First, because I’m not going to pay scalpers prices but second is that I do think the very first units have the most problems that can be improved. I’m super excited for mine and I also preordered their new stand and case which I think comes out on the 17th. Got a new Subscriber here 😊

Good video. This is how the portal should have been released at launch. It never has worked well streaming from the ps5 but the cloud streaming works excellent. Just need a better game selection now. I’m sure the games that are currently on there are the best streaming ones. With most games, you don’t notice the lag from controls to game. A couple of the racers you can notice and little lay.
Yeah I think this update has definitely been the biggest win for the Portal so far and so many have said "if it was like this from launch I would have bought one". I'm just glad Sony seem to be sticking with it, gives me hope for future years!
As an Australian it's such a bummer that we can't get the streaming option. I have GeForce NOW here and it works VERY good. There is no reason we shouldn't have it. But I have noticed with the update that input latency and bitrate has improved on the portal so I'm thankful for that.
Yeah it's such a shame. As I understand it, they simply haven't invested in the infrastructure required to get it to work well. I can only imagine that's down to the sheer size of Australia.
I just traded an iPad for a portal today for this. I just finished setting it up. I don't have a PS5. I had a small amount of input lag, and my game became blurry and laggy after a few minutes, but in the first few minutes, the image quality looked native. I have 500 up and down and a great router.
If you have an Android phone or tablet, download an app called WiFiMan and run the latency graph test in the same spot you were playing the Portal. The MS response needs to be as low as possible and as stable as possible. The graph line should be nice and flat.
@@TheGameFatherUK I think you’re right about that I personally bought a Steam Deck with the intention of playing native games on it but finding myself streaming from my ps5 instead. Thanks so much for the video - subscribed! Quick question please - and I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but can two people (kids psn accounts) play fortnite together, one on the ps5 and another on the portal in the same household?...
I've never any problems with my portal but I did notice the slight stutter it just never looked smooth..after the update it's buttery smooth...I've also found that charging doc you have and I've got one today ..thanks for the video
I have a synchronous gigabit connection now, but when the Portal first came out I was running on 70mb and it was more than enough. You only need 13mbps, anything about that will be fine as long as it's stable (and of course depending on other people that you might be sharing it with) If you're not sure though, just download the free remote play app on Android, iOS, Mac or Windows and give that a try. You can simulate what streaming between a Portal and console is like. Or you can just sub to premium on a PS5 and stick it on WiFi and see that too.
In terms of fixing things, the update has only addressed the microstutter. The other stuff is feature updates. Mobile data has always worked just fine as long as the connection is fast enough and stable enough (emphasis on stable!). It'll eat through data though at between 2 and 6GB per hour. Mobile data has always been a bit tricky just due to its instability. I play on mobile data regularly, but if the signal quality isn't rock solid, it's not great. You can always try the free mobile app and install remote play on your phone to try it. If it works well then, you're good to go. The only thing you can test is streaming from the cloud as that is a Portal only feature (not in the Mac, Windows, iOS or Android app).
You can use either singapore or hongkong for your region. Just make sure to use yourbown email addressed to your own country. I've been using my sgd acc(my country has no psn supp) since ps3 and never encountered any problems.
@@keslerkalaw2873 If you want to play the game that's inside the disc drive then unless it's an online game, you don't need any kind of PS Plus subscription at all, a free PSN account will suffice. But if you already have the PS Plus, it'll still work fine :) You only need the Premium sub if you're streaming directly from the cloud via the new update.
Streaming directly from the cloud is not supported on anything other than the console and the Portal. It's not available as a feature on any of the remote play apps. Sorry!
It's entirely dependent on your network really, and to an extent, what games you play and to what standard. I wouldn't think a competitive FPS at high level would be a good idea, but for casual gaming, it isn't noticeable.
Is anyone able to play gta 5 online through the beta cloud streaming yet? When I try it says their servers are down but other games I’m able to connect online.
No, I really don't think so. I think if anything, that's a different product all together due to the hardware requirements. I think they'll decide whether to go down that route or not on the back of the Portal. If the Portal with cloud streaming is working for them and it's a success, I'd be surprised (pleasantly) if they'd try and take on the Switch.
@ yeah I see that. It just sucks cause I’d get it just to play my games on it without having to turn on the ps5 but I’m not trynna spend the money for premium just for that lol. That’s why I wish they made it where u could just sign into ur ps account and play without remote play and just regular ps plus
That just sucks so hard! For all the people that are re-selling these things because before hand these things where more paperweights then a handheld devices.
I’m hoping someone can help me. I’m living in Thailand but my ps5 is back in England. My ps5 is hardwired with 300mbps+ and my wifi speed in thailand is 400mbps+ I’m happy to just play single player games on it, but I at least want them to run smoothly. Does anyone know if firstly I can do the initial setup in a different country and secondly will it still work when playing over such long distances? Is it worth it or just going to be too much of a delay? Thanks
The best advice I can give you is to download the free Sony Remote Play app on your phone and test it that way. If you're able to connect to your console back in England and play from Thailand without too much lag, then buy a Portal. They run on the same tech so it'll be an almost identical experience. In theory it'll work fine, it just depends on the stability (not so much the speed) of the connection at both ends :)
Afraid not :( You'll either need to wait for them to maybe add it to the catalogue, or get a PS5. Failing that, if you know someone that will let you play theirs remotely, that could be an option.
@ aww ok. I am still contemplating whether I want to buy a PS5, but is it worth the financial decision?. I do want the portal as well, but I’ll need to buy the game as well
Does anyone know with the new update, if I have one ps5 with one account with ps premium, would my wife be able to stream in the portal while I play on my ps5 or if she set up a second profile on my ps5 could she use it on the portal? Some say yes some say no 😅
You can only stream to the Portal directly from the cloud if the account that's logged into has premium. You could do it the other way round, with you streaming on the Portal via premium and her on the console with a non-premium account (at the same time). But if her PSN account is not Premium, then you won't be able to have it working in the way you described. Alternatively, you could sign into the Portal and let her play that on Premium whilst you play on a separate account on the console. Not ideal because of saved game progress, purchased games and DLC purchases though.
Yeah it's a bummer :( always seems to be the case too. IIRC you can't even get the full Premium sub over there can you? It's a slightly lesser offering that doesn't including streaming?
I was/am super happy with this update. I have used the portal with no real issues for a week. But while watching this video i tried out miles morales and the micro stutters were so severe the game was unplayable. Tried to restart but the same issues. It is not perfect. It seems to be better but on a case by case basis.
I really wanted the 30th anniversary edition of the portal but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy it since I just paid for the Pro. That and the fact bots had already scalped them all before I the chance to even look at it.😅
It's not available to stream directly from the online library, so you can, but it'd have to stream from the console, rather than the cloud. That may of course change in the future if Sony add it, but who knows if that might happen.
Hmm, I don't have any personal experience at airports or planes with the Portal. But if it's a choice between the two and you do a lot of travelling, I'd probably go with the steam deck. You've got the safety of offline gaming with that, plus you can install Chakaki and play your PS5 remotely if the connection is solid. You don't get the dual sense ergonomics or the haptics, but it'd be a safer bet imo.
You can now, yes. You will need a Playstation Plus Premium subscription though in order to access the streaming service. Just keep in mind that it's only just been released and it's in beta so it's not perfect :)
So basically if you want a portable its really best at home. Once you get on a moving vehicle, a plane or places where you don't have any type of good connection its still pretty useless. I'd rather pay more and be able to use more games in more places vs paying less but paying a sub fee and still be limited to wifi
That part i was almost ready to buy it for myself 😅 but I don't see the point of it if it's still at the mercy of WiFi connection. If I'm home I'm not playing no darn portal when I got a PS5 right there sure it's convenient if my kids are playing the console but thats not worth $200. If they figure out how to play it native or shall I say locally then yes .
got one immediately, guessing ebay prises will keep going up till old units cost as much as a brand-new ones. someone teach these lads how to bid why paying 189 GBP for a used item thats 199 new.
Actually, I've always been impressed with the screen, despite it not being anything special on paper. I mean, it's not really comparable to a top of the range OLED HDR, but for the price point, I think it's pretty excellent.
@@TheGameFatherUK Right on, good to know. Side note: I’ve been testing my WiFi using the WifiMan app you mentioned, and I have a question about latency. The latency to router is consistently showing 3-6 ms. The latency to Internet is consistently showing 35-40 ms. Is that normal? I’m looking at picking up a Portal, but I wanted to see if my WiFi is decent enough to properly run one first. My current speeds are 100/100.
@@CincoQuallity 3-6ms locally is very good, especially if it's staying within that range. Latency to the internet is largely down to the quality of the ISP. I used to have an absolutely mega ISP which would consistently be under 10ms, but they couldn't provide full fibre so I had to switch. The current provider is fast, but the MS isn't as good. 35ms will be fine though, as long as you're not an elite FPS gamer where each ms counts (I am definitely not 😆)
@@TheGameFatherUK Alright, thanks for the info. I’d only be playing single player titles anyway, so hopefully it’ll be fine. Just to clarify, there’s nothing I can do about that 35-40 ms internet latency? That’s entirely on the ISP?
@@CincoQuallity When you say the latency is showing 35-40 do you mean that you're connecting to a server (like a speedtest one or game server) and that locally you're only connecting the device to the router itself?. If that's the case then no matter what you're going to have higher latency when actually using the internet as that's based on your location and how far away you are from the actual physical server you're connecting to which isn't an isp issue but an issue of how physics and distance work. Like for example I live in Australia and if I connect to a server in let's say America to play an online competitive game I will always no matter what be at a huge disadvantage latency wise unless I move to America or the people I play against move to where I am because it takes time for the internet packets to move back and forth such huge distances (about a quarter of a second or about 250ms in my case for example)
@NurullahYasar-g5g i never ever had problem s. Because the in netherlands have one faster internet in the world when you test upload it to 18mb iam not only one use internet in the house they say you need 5mb
are you for real? just sold my ps5 and im not at home that often due to work and other activities now i can play it without needing to buy a ps5 and just play the games i have already bought on the console
Depends on the game you're playing to some degree, like the amount of haptic feedback, volume of sound, brightness of screen etc. But I find about 3-4 hours on average when at home.
You do, but that's been the case on the PSN since cloud streaming was made available. All that's really changed in that regard is that it now works on the Portal too.
As for the micro stutter I got a ps5 pro and for a week it was great then I updated my portal great I thought next day when I booted up my ps5 pro there was a micro stutter on that totally bizarre only way to sort it was to turn off the HDR setting on my ps5 pro very odd indeed has anyone else had this issue
@ ok so went through the settings again and it’s not the HDR that’s causing the problem but the latency setting I have sky glass and unfortunately it doesn’t have a gaming setting so it’s this that’s causing the problem I’ve turned it off and everything is fine don’t think this is a major problem any thoughts
Remote play has been available on Sony since 2016. This video is very specifically about streaming from the cloud to the Portal, which itself is only just 12 months old.
Yeah I'm really looking forward to them opening up the catalogue more. The service is already struggling at peak times with capacity so it was perhaps a smart move to roll it out in stages.
Always one of these. Do you go through life around comparing everything you have or like with everything else? It's in beta calm down. Enjoy what you like and leave others to like what they like. Plenty of games you can't get on Xbox here.
I guess it depends what you've already played/bought. I can see it being worth it for people that haven't played the likes of Last of us, Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII Remake, Death Stranding etc.
I done know why people buying this..where you can easily buy Xbox subscription and keyboard mouse extension and you are good to go..i currently have Hogwarts and witchers 3. If anyone want to exchnage id let me know
Unless their endgame is to actually put their damn games onto their cloud streaming service so you can actually stream them, then I’m not interested. Spoiler: it’s not. If you don’t know what you are doing you are gonna buy that damn thing & get ripped off by Sony’s half assed cloud-based gaming catalogue
You can with remote play. The thing is 200 and doesn't have the grunt to run games natively. Wait for the rumored ps5 handheld for that. Of course you'll be complaining about the price then.

Any idea if the lag better with the new update?
I have a very good internet connection at home but still the resolution drops sometimes, can I somehow improve this ?
It'll likely be down to the stability of your WiFi. Are you streaming from the cloud or from your console?
Sorry is there a specific version/ year of the portal or are any all ok for this update.
All the Portals can update to this latest version :) the beta for cloud streaming is an option within the settings.
What is your internet speed in your house? Worried I buy one and it lags. I currently have about 800mb on average
I have a synchronous gigabit connection now, but when the Portal first came out I was running on 70mb and it was more than enough. You only need 13mbps, anything about that will be fine as long as it's stable (and of course depending on other people that you might be sharing it with)
If you're not sure though, just download the free remote play app on Android, iOS, Mac or Windows and give that a try. You can simulate what streaming between a Portal and console is like. Or you can just sub to premium on a PS5 and stick it on WiFi and see that too.
The volume now has to be at 60% just to be able to hear it. They should’ve left it alone
It's *insane* how long it took them to just lower the minimum volume... Still, great they're showing the portal some love.
Heh yeah, couldn't agree with you more there, a year to change the min volume 😆
Voice commands work for searching for games 🎮 👏
Taughts on buying one if planning on using hotspot from mobile phone ? Bad reviews before has it improved since update
How many games are available to you? I currently have 204 but started with much less than that 2 days ago.
Just checked and you're right, I also have 204. Pretty decent! Just need to get the likes of God of War on there instead of Peppa Pig 😆
I'm in indonesia and it hasn't support on my region yet, can i change my region to other country to play cloud streaming on my portal?
You can use either singapore or hongkong for your region. Just make sure to use yourbown email addressed to your own country. I've been using my sgd acc(my country has no psn supp) since ps3 and never encountered any problems.
I have a disc game on a PS5 can I play it on the PSPortal?
Yes, as long as it's in the drive and installed :)
@TheGameFatherUK I only have the essentials subscription on my ps5. Is it enough? Thanks
Will this work for my iPad thru the PS App? 🤔🎮
Streaming directly from the cloud is not supported on anything other than the console and the Portal. It's not available as a feature on any of the remote play apps. Sorry!
How about the input lag???
It's entirely dependent on your network really, and to an extent, what games you play and to what standard. I wouldn't think a competitive FPS at high level would be a good idea, but for casual gaming, it isn't noticeable.
Is anyone able to play gta 5 online through the beta cloud streaming yet? When I try it says their servers are down but other games I’m able to connect online.
Do u think they’ll make it where u don’t need ps premium and can just play it like a handheld ps5 without the ps5 on
No, I really don't think so.
If this was in my country and I could get the premium I would absolutely get this.
I hope they continue to roll it out, it's been great so far!
That just sucks so hard! For all the people that are re-selling these things because before hand these things where more paperweights then a handheld devices.
It’s their fault for selling. Everyone should have known this was coming eventually it only made sense
I’m hoping someone can help me. I’m living in Thailand but my ps5 is back in England. My ps5 is hardwired with 300mbps+ and my wifi speed in thailand is 400mbps+
I’m happy to just play single player games on it, but I at least want them to run smoothly.
I don’t own a ps5 and not membership I just wanna play Astro Bot. Any recommendations? Thank you.
I do want the portal as well, but I’ll need to buy the game as well
I saw improvement on speeds
Be nice if sony could make the ps portal leds “controllers” dimable like on the ps5
But it doesnt work in australia 😢😢😢
That and the fact bots had already scalped them all before I the chance to even look at it.😅
Wht a purpose of getting it of somegames are not available
It's in beta and I'm nothing they are adding games already. Jeez give it time.
@ games pass xbox it’s still beta
Can I play Destiny on ps portal?
It's not available to stream directly from the online library, so you can, but it'd have to stream from the console, rather than the cloud. That may of course change in the future if Sony add it, but who knows if that might happen.
@ well seeing as Sony now owns Bungie I can definitely imagine that happening
UA-cam’s biggest word “caveats”.
How well would you think the portal works now during flights and travel? On edge between this and the steam deck. Thanks!
Nice video good explanation liked and subbed ps loving my ps portal especially taking it to work on a night shift 😉
Thank you! Getting paid to play the Portal, sign me up! 😁
@@TheGameFatherUK haha u know 😄
Can you earn trophies?
Absolutely! Lots of people use the Portal for casual trophy hunting :)
@TheGameFatherUK thank you
I don’t own ps5 can i still play ps portal???
Please help
You can now, yes. You will need a Playstation Plus Premium subscription though in order to access the streaming service. Just keep in mind that it's only just been released and it's in beta so it's not perfect :)
So basically if you want a portable its really best at home. Once you get on a moving vehicle, a plane or places where you don't have any type of good connection its still pretty useless. I'd rather pay more and be able to use more games in more places vs paying less but paying a sub fee and still be limited to wifi
Ok so do that.
That part i was almost ready to buy it for myself 😅 but I don't see the point of it if it's still at the mercy of WiFi connection. If I'm home I'm not playing no darn portal when I got a PS5 right there sure it's convenient if my kids are playing the console but thats not worth $200. If they figure out how to play it native or shall I say locally then yes .
instead of dudes just NOT buying it, they want to write entire paragraphs telling you why they’re NOT buying it, just shut up, no one cares lol
Man said Tuah- shima
got one immediately, guessing ebay prises will keep going up till old units cost as much as a brand-new ones. someone teach these lads how to bid why paying 189 GBP for a used item thats 199 new.
Especially weird whilst stock is still good :/
Do u need a ps5 to join a ps party
It's in beta right now so probably not
How do you find the screen overall? The black levels seem problematic. Is the lack of HDR frustrating?
Agreed. Good Job Sony
Can I have two portals streaming from the one subscription? (I’ve two gamers in the house) 😅
You'll never believe what video I'm finishing the editing of right now 😉 Spoiler: Yes. It. Is 😁
Cloud gaming is the future of gaming
Definitely stepping in that direction for sure!
I love physical... And completely agree, I have very mixed feelings about it. But it works so well, I can't unsee it.
Yep when console is dead or get no surrport its offline support it no more.
Its beter for the game develober
How is latency and graphics? Is it the same experience like remote play from your ps5? Or just better / worse?
@NurullahYasar-g5g i never ever had problem s. Because the in netherlands have one faster internet in the world when you test upload it to 18mb iam not only one use internet in the house
they say you need 5mb
are you for real? just sold my ps5 and im not at home that often due to work and other activities now i can play it without needing to buy a ps5 and just play the games i have already bought on the console
not in australia
I know ☹️ What's that all about? It always seems to be the case
there are actually more than 200 games streamable...
Yep, 204 when I counted last night. I really hope Sony keep opening up the library at that rate!
BATERRY LIFE
Depends on the game you're playing to some degree, like the amount of haptic feedback, volume of sound, brightness of screen etc. But I find about 3-4 hours on average when at home.
I wanna play dead space. But im pissed I can only play it through remote play 🤬
Not having luck on my internet. Think I need an upgrade. Anyone recommend any public WiFi spots until then? lol😂
So, you need to pay for the highest tier PSN subscription to avail the streaming thing? WTF?
You do, but that's been the case on the PSN since cloud streaming was made available. All that's really changed in that regard is that it now works on the Portal too.
As for the micro stutter I got a ps5 pro and for a week it was great then I updated my portal great I thought next day when I booted up my ps5 pro there was a micro stutter on that totally bizarre only way to sort it was to turn off the HDR setting on my ps5 pro very odd indeed has anyone else had this issue
Can't say I have seen that myself, that is pretty bizarre :/ Have you rebooted each device since?
@ it’s definitely the HDR for some reason when I turn it on I get this micro stutter it is bizarre
Thanks for the update, pretty interesting that it was a Sky Glass issue!
Soooo Sony doing an Xbox and now ponies are loving it. What a surprise lol
Xbox has been able to offer this streaming ability for years!
Remote play has been available on Sony since 2016. This video is very specifically about streaming from the cloud to the Portal, which itself is only just 12 months old.
On a handheld?
@@mickpratt8327 tablet, phone , pc
Too bad Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t on that list of games to use my portal without relying on the ps5.
Yes I miss God of War too
Yeah I'm really looking forward to them opening up the catalogue more. The service is already struggling at peak times with capacity so it was perhaps a smart move to roll it out in stages.
BETA !!! Give it time.
Take almost two years of premium to equal one digital ps5@400 😂
PS Premium costs as much as Game pass ultimate with 1/10 of games
Always one of these. Do you go through life around comparing everything you have or like with everything else? It's in beta calm down. Enjoy what you like and leave others to like what they like. Plenty of games you can't get on Xbox here.
It only lets you stream a handful of games so far though so not worth it
I guess it depends what you've already played/bought. I can see it being worth it for people that haven't played the likes of Last of us, Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII Remake, Death Stranding etc.
But have to have ps premium. It’s all about money to them.
This update is only for people who want to pay 48 per quarter for a premium subscription
At 200$ and 180$ for premium it’s a no brainer for new gamers.totally loving my portal.
The Portal is a generation or two away from being worthy of purchase.
It's annoying but If I can't play my offline games too it ain't worth the price at all.
You can with remote play. The thing is 200 and doesn't have the grunt to run games natively. Wait for the rumored ps5 handheld for that. Of course you'll be complaining about the price then.
