Loved this interview! And so cool learning more about tires and the trial and error involved at Reneherse… definitely going to try a pair of Fleecer Ridge’s in the future!
I really enjoy the talks with manufacturers! It‘s super educational and way more personal! I, of course, prefer to give my money to a person who I can identify with. Jan is a real biker himself! I‘d love to see more!
As someone who live in WA area I was not aware of Jan and Rene Herse. I am excited about the Fletcher Ridge. I have been using the WTB ranger and they are OK, but seem to wallow around in the rear on singletrack. Hoping the Fletcher Ridge will tighten that up and still offer consistent gravel and road sections.
I guess the Fleecer Ridge tire is a MTB only option, in all reality ? I don't know any gravel bikes that take 50+ mm tires. Will Rene Herse make a 50mm version of a tire like this so It can be ran on gravel bike setups?
The Fleecer Ridge I'd thf hardest tyre I've ever had to seat , if I was out on a trip & had to take one off I doubt I'll could put it back on ,this puts me off compared to the Vittoria Mazcal .
For non racers, $90 RH tires just don't make any sense. When you corner on the unpaved surface with your bike packing loads, traction and support are way more important than fast rolling/road bike feeling. I would not risk crushing my bike in the middle of nowhere. And the price is ridiculous. Paying extra for the RH label.
Why does this guy continue to proliferate the spoof he makes tires, he is an intermediate, he does not make tires, he has them labeled with different names and they are made by a Japanese company, Panaracer! What a fake, but he races cyclocross!
Lol there is no 'spoof' he literally has written heaps of articles about going to Panaracer and working with them. There are alot of tyre companies who are much less open about who makes the tyres they design...in fact apart from FMB do any of the small tyre makers manufacture their own tyres? I know Panaracer also make tyres for Soma, Grand Bois, Pacenti, Simworks - are you suggesting they're all involved in some sort of charade?
Lol. You really think Jan Heine is merely slapping his brand name on a pre-made tire? Shows how little you know. Jan has been carefully designing unique tires for years, and has brought about a revolution in the marketplace that we have all benefitted from. This includes choosing optimal casing materials, profile, size, rubber blend, knob design, etc. Sure, he doesn’t personally hand make each tire, that would be utterly ridiculous. Instead he has a world-class tire factory do that. I’d argue that by insinuating Jan is merely an intermediary marketing guy, you’re the only fake here.
This was niche but priceless content. Thank you SO MUCH for putting it out there. I love tires and bikes, so this was definitely my groove.
hands-on-nerdiness of Jan combined with positive-vibes of Lael - excellent guests!
Great video! Thanks for making this happen. Also, big thanks to Jan for making bike riding even better, and to Lael for being an absolute legend.
This is one of the best cycling videos I’ve seen. Jan and Lael are some of the most unique and inspiring people in cycling in 2020
Fantastic. All three of you. Great to hear Jan - a rare pleasure. From a BQ subscriber.
Lael 👏🏻👏🏻 what a legend that smile & laugh just makes me want to go & cycle the highlands of Scotland 👍🏻🚴🏻♂️🏴🏴🏴🏴
Thank you! Allways interesting what Jan has to say. And Lael is such a sweetheart!
So nice to see Lael live after almost a year left now when we first met in Kyrgyzstan - Mountains of Heaven!
Loved this interview! And so cool learning more about tires and the trial and error involved at Reneherse… definitely going to try a pair of Fleecer Ridge’s in the future!
Great interview, Lael needs an designated French Fries tankbag with little pockets for salt and ketchup.
Saw that scene in a video, so rad!!!
the best video yet, good work!
Thanks Greg!
This was very helpful in choosing my next tire.
I want to see more of this please!
Thanks for watching, we will be sure to keep this content flowing, thanks Rick.

Great talk, thanks everyone!
Loved it! Such great stories! Aloha to you all!

I think conti cross king can do better job and cost half.
I wish their products will be available in amazon..
Good stuff!
Awesome talk
That's the crux! " when you really dissect what makes a knobby slow (on smooth terrain) and you eliminate that, you have a fast tire." Excellent.
Love ya' Lael!
plugged a large hole with a krumholtz branch cos we ran out of bacon strips. patched a sidewall with bar wrapper, it works
Chapeau !
good info, will be careful with tire clearance on carbon!
Fun drinking game, take a shot everytime Lael looks at the camera and nods
Well if your definition of fun game involves getting yourself in hospital in record time then by all means 😂

Oracle Ridge is the same tire in a 48mm option.

if you have to ask Jan about what he does what rock did you hide under for the last
ten years?
He's asking for the benefit of the viewer. It's called an interview!
Fleece the rich?

@@WordupG Keep drinking the Kool Aid and putting your money on the collection plate!
Marc Sasso Yeah sure. I will continue to buy the tires I like and you can continue to tell lies on the Internet! Stay classy!
Go on, how us where to buy those same tires with another brand name on them. Facts please!
