- Join host Ted King for an evening with ultra-endurance rider and racer Lael Wilcox, President and head of Rene Herse R&D, Jan Heine as they discuss one of the most popular questions we hear at Rooted Vermont: tire choice, tire size, and tire pressure. Learn more about what goes into tire decisions and design and ask these three legends your questions about bike and tire setups.
Lael Wilcox is the best female ultra-endurance cyclist in the world. Two noteworthy achievements that help stamp claim to that title are outright winning the 4300 Trans Am Bike Race in 2016 and setting the record on the 2750 mile tour divide in 2015. She has traveled and ridden more than 100,000 miles in 35 countries. And as an advocate for the sport, she has done tremendous things to get more girls on bikes. She co-founded GRIT: Girls Riding into Tomorrow, a bicycle based mentorship program for 7th grade girls in Alaska which is capped off with a three day bikepacking trip in the AK.
President and head of R&D at Rene Herse Cycles, Jan is the editor in chief of Bicycle Quarterly, founded all the way back in 2002. This world renowned randonneur has a PhD in climate change, which is where this German born expat made his way to the United States, now calling Washington state his home. Heine is an author of multiple books, most notably and highly recommended, The All-Road Bike Revolution with foreword by Ted King.

I tried to watch this live the night it aired but it didn't work ... just found it again and it was SO good.
Awesome, so interesting and helpul, fun and entertaining!
You guys are so friendly and passionate - love you! ❤️
Awesome. Three of the biggest pros giving best advice. Come on! Thanks all.
Great show Ted, love the guests!
I learned sooooo much from this thanks guys!!!!!
I enjoyed that, and learnt lots!
Great show. Will this become a podcast? I’d really like to listen to these while on long rides. Cheers!
do you listen to King of the Ride podcast?
@@lauraking1437 no but I will go check it out
Great content. Thank you
Klaas Vantourenhout (Ex-CX-Pro from Belgium) said in an interview that he bought tires (Dugast in his case) for 3-4 k € per season.
In the early years of Lightweight (Obermayer) the pros bought their wheels and dislabelled it.
Or frames: Jan Ullrich for example used time trial frames by Walser and not Pinarello!
So even the pros have to pay for certain equipment like Jan said.
So I watched and understood everything you all said and again I thank you all. I am doing the TX Hill Country loop on Topstone. Pavement. Which tire do you recommend?
This was so cool!
Great stuff, Ted. This was perfect for me to hear right now! Keep up the great work!
The more you ride, the more you smile,
Ted- can I ask? How many kilo are you and what pressure do you run in your tires?
Brilliant thx Ted ! I only ride RH tires 😉 on my gravel bike
Ted, what's that hat? I have seen that "crazy face" before, I just can't place it?
It’s rooted Vermont
Great program! BTW, ya might want to delete the "comment" from Berge Nicholas! :)
I get the Extra Light Casing, the Endurance Casing and the Endurance Plus, but where does the standard casing slot in as far as CRR and puncture protection?
Between Light Casing and Endurance Casing.
