Thanks so much for all this info...great video.....I switched out the camera for a caddx ratel 2... AND... I switched the camera side plates around, and remounted the camera, to almost ELIMINATE the blue standoffs inview...then I swapped out the VTX antenna for a foxeer .....My question to you is what PIDs did you finally settle on?......Thanks for all of your great content!
At the moment the DarwinFPV Darwin240 Johnny 5 ELRS costs about 185 $. So it is maybe the cheapest BNF freestyle quadcopter on the market right now. The iFlight Nazgul5 V3 6S ELRS costs 260 $. I got the Johnny 5 delivered. Anyway, it doesn't have Runcam or Caddx brand on the camera. And if the camera is really bad, I don't find the price difference to the Nazgul not that high per se (in itself only 60 euros, if you add the purchase of a new camera for J5.). I may already regret my decision to order the Johnny 5, and will definitely order the Nazgul as my second 5" freestyle quadcopter. First of all, it has several advantages, probably everything is higher quality both electronics and frame, probably better optimized in BF and ESC, stronger VTX, does not have to replace a camera and a reputation for quality. A disadvantage of the Nazgul is that it is 80 grams heavier, but possibly more robust...
It comes with very old Betaflight 4.1. Have you flashed a newer Betaflight firmware on the FC ? If yes, which hardware target did you select ? Because the sheets say firmware target: MATEKF405. But Betaflight Configurator 10.8 does not auto-recognize the target and I can only select different variants MATEKF405XXX ? Does it matter which variant I select ? The FC board does not has a label which variant it is exactly... I can not find this board at MATEK too... The problem is that I can not bind my Remote. Neither binding with binding phrase doesn't work because it says IVALID name in command line nor traditional binding doesn't work with the dobbel blinking of the receiver and the binding button on the remote. It double blinks but they do not bind... What is also strange is that in Betaflight Receiver Tab Serial Receiver CRSF is set instead of ELRS. And ELRS is not selectable at all... I don't think it's a Crossfire module. There is no label on the installed DarwinFPV ELRS receiver but the antenna looks like ELRS antenna... I think the this drone will probably only be BNF when I to a higher version of BETAFLIGHT ? Because maybe the old Betaflight 4.1 did not recognize the ELRS receiver ?
I think I know what the problem is now. My Literadio3 has ELRS 2.0.1 and the receiver probably has ELRS 3.0. In addition, it may not be possible to downgrade the receiver to 2.0 with the ELRS configurator (especially since the DarwinFPV receiver doesn't even have a label and can't be found in the shop because of its appearance. I don't even know what you have...) and that there is currently no firmware 3.0 for the LiteRadio3. The whole thing is really unbelievable. LiteRadio3 is really rubbish!
It works now because I'm temporarily using the ELRS Lite Receiver V1.0 with Tower Antenna. According to BETAFPV, the ELRS has 2.0. However, it is not ideal for a 5 inch quadcopter... Although tests show that it has a range of up to 2 km...
How did you fly this drone on 6s? I think the Darwin240 uses 2400kv motors so I think that would be 4s? Just curious because I have the same drone and was going to fly 6s on it but I thought the motors were 4s only.
@@iceberg_4o487 some other guy answered me it is a runcam phoenix 2 inside of his ...That's i thniunk not that bad cam.... Actually one of the bests...
DarwinFPV have some of the worst VTXs out there. I've replaced both, on my two BabyApes. And if I buy anymore Darwins I'll be sure to have a replacement on hand as soon as it arrives. Maybe Walksnail? Hopefully the motors they put on the Johnny5 are better than the ones on the apes.

Great video. Super helpful 👍
@Gboni FPV. Thanks for the review it helps a lot, also you have a awesome place to fly!
Thanks! 👍
This Analog cam looks fine

You solved the FC problem because I don't know how to update it

I use a throttled scale on Betaflight.
@@GBoniFPV Ok gotcha. I saw something about that on Joshua Bardwell's channel.
hello do you have the lipo settings in betaflight, because I have a bad lipo setting.. thanks man
Right on great review
Can this be upgraded to fit Caddx Nebula Pro or Runcam Wasp ? I don't have any analog goggle
Yes , there is enough space in the back for a vista
What camera would you recommend for this drone?
I'm a big fan of the Caddx Ratel 2. However, any camera from Caddx, Foxeer, or Runcam will be much better than the original one.
Which battery connector does the drone have? XT60?
Yes
@@GBoniFPV Okay. Thank you for the fast answer.
Great video. New sub
so wait, do i have to manually solder / connect my receiver (im getting one with elrs)?
Yes, what UART are you using?
What camera did you put on it instead?
Caddx Ratel 2
What cam it has in default ?

Hi !! What batteries do you use for the Jonny 5?
6s 1000mah, and I have my throttle scale down to 78%
If you kept your throttle at 100% would it break the quad?
@@peskinproductions It would fry esc
Best Lipo Tattu 1300 or 1550 mah
Is this better than the eachine x220 v3?
I never owned an x220, so I'm unable to answer your questions. However, it is a good kwad. It has been in multiple crashes. So far so good
