Richard Deacon is iconic. He was one of the few t.v. actors of this era who won an award as two different characters that he portrayed in two shows running at the time--Mel Cooley in the Dick VanDyke show, and Fred Rutherford in Leave it to Beaver.
LOL! I remember Mother buying dresses like the one Linda is wearing for us 3 girls, my 2 sisters and I! We were a little older than Angela Cartwright, though!
There was an episode of Andy Griffith exactly like this - Helen was helping the kids put on a Senior Show and the principal objected to the "indecent" rock and roll, so they auditioned an act with the Charleston showing how "lewd" it was back in the day. (However this episode was MUCH funnier than the Andy Griffith version.)
Wasn't Eileen Janssen beautiful. Gotta admit I enjoyed seeing her "shimmy like her sister Kate"!! By the way, the jazz band, Bill Hollingsworth's Dixie-Small Fry, does the best fast version of that old 1922 song. All the originals were much slower. Good job.
Several things wrong with this episode. In the first place, the music at the beginning did not sound like "rock n' roll." It sounded more like Dixieland jazz! And in 1925 Richard Deacon would only have been 2 or 3 years old (OK, so maybe the character he was playing was older). And why does Danny act so puritanical all of a sudden? He's a sophisticated popular entertainer used to the latest styles. The whole episode felt contrived to me. (And yes, as another commenter pointed out, it was redone on The Andy Griffith Show.)

🥃👴🏻AWW SHUT UP
The principal is Melvin (Mel ) from the Dick Van Dikey show
He was also Fred Rutherford on Leave It To Beaver(Lumpy's Dad).
Gotta love the Mel Cooley/Buddy feud.
Sounded more like Dixieland jazz to me. Not Rhythm and Blues🤔
